I am curious why people are drawn to vampires and wot it is that we find appealing about them!
Is it the blood, the pain, the sex appeal of vampires in the movies or is it something else?

I think its probably a mix of all of those things. Its just different proportions for different people. Fashion is probably another reason, but that might fall under sex appeal. Personally the blood does nothing for me. The mystique of it all is probably one of the biggest reasons.

yea the sex appeal that they are given in movies like underworld is something that would draw alot of none vampire loving people into the scene and then u add blood to the mix and damn how can we resist!!!

I think its because of all the forms they come in and the different ways they are dipicted. There is a vampire for just about eveyone no matter what they like.

Its the freedom. They are more than the 9-5. They do not answer to any governing body that tells them what is right and wrong. They are free to indulge in every sin that we have been told from birth. And they get away with it. They are immortal. They fear no one. Thats is what really draws us into thier world. That is the appeal.

Vampires are different, yet a lot like people. The perfect mix for an appeal.

For me ... yes is the sex-appeal but not in the commercial way we see it. Vampires are not commercially swayed. They are not judgmental. They are historical and centuries old and for us women that are not "societies perfection' or "magazine material" we will go to where we can have an entity that views what we see as imperfctions as beauty.

Back in the old Roman and Greek days woman that were of size were volupious and wanted the women that were skinny where concidered whores and not wanted and never given a second glance.

For me it's the chance, a more than likely good chance of something, or in this case, someone being real and yet the world as a whole hasn't seen one. I like the fact of the likely hood of the unknown

I think that for a lot of people it is the idea of immortality. People know that they are mortal and therefore weak so they wish for the immortality portrayed in stories of vampires.

I think that the imortality is a huge attraction.

For me it's the mystical beuaty that Vampires posess that appeals to me.

I find the idea of an individual who has witnessed and lived during our very own history to be captivating...the stories that that person must have...wow...

Depends on how you want to look at it I suppose. I would consider being immortal to be quite a curse, but then you are stepping into the fantasy realm in my opinion.

Being immortal would mean watching all your loved ones pass away as the years passed. Personally, I don't believe in being immortal in this context. If it has flesh, it will die. At least thats how I see it.

Hmm, I had never really thought about this before. I think though that for me it would have to be that they are generally interesting people.

A lot of it for me I think is the whole sex appeal of vampires. Everyone likes a bit of mystery and people have always been fascinated by the unknown and there is such an air of mystery surrounding vampires that it very attractive not to mention the whole living forever young and beautiful.

For me its a combination of things. The confidence, immortality, the mystery, sexual overtones, that they live in a world of darkness. The thought that they come from all eras in time, they seem to exude wisdom....

I think it is everything that has been put into the description of being a 'vampire'. The thought of being immortal, the lust and sexual desire that comes with the satisfaction of drinking blood. The feeling of confidence and power.

Depending on the person it could be any one of those things and many more. For me it is all of them but sometimes for one reason more than another. Just depends on the day and mood

Well for me it would be the pain, and the sex appeal, but the blood would push me away, I can be a hemophobic person somtimes. it depends where the blood is coming from

I just saw a great show on the History Channel about vampires and they did discuss what the appeal was. Many felt that since the vampire has become so romanticized and made to be beautiful, graceful, immortal and powerful the view of vampirism has changed from fear to an underlying sexualization. In other words, once Bram Stoker made Dracula more of a palatable character and,for those times, quite full of sexual inuendo, a new movement occurred. Others began to reshape the vampire, formely feared and blamed for plagues, etc. and accepted Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as posterboys and Vampirella a most desirable heroine!

LOL And so the ugly duckling becomes the Swan. LOL Kind of like Ogers and the Shreck movies. LOL

I believe society has been romanced hollywood's depiction of vampires, immortality, free will, sex appeal and mystery. The same as James Bond (007), to do the impossible and be unstoppable.

I believe people are drawn to vampires for two reasons. The first is people want to classify, for lack of a better word, their darker desires. They want a reason why or better yet, an example to show they are not alone in having those dark desires.

The second is the taboo nature. Blood drinking is frowned upon in normal society. I believe everyone has a deviant side to them, some larger than others, and that side is drawn to things that shock and wow others.

The dark eroticism, the eternal damnation and eternal life combined, the fantasy, the sensuality and the violence, the angst and the lack of angst depending on the mood or depiction. What's not to like?

I think it's pretty obvious. People are drawn to super-beings. And I am speaking of ficition.

It's no mystery that we are attracted to what's a novelty.

I think people are find vampires appealing because they are curious about their existence. It's like a morbid facsination.

to me i think it is that we are different and dare to be ourselves while everyone else is worried on fitting in

to really answer your question in the best way I think it is different for everyone, but I myself think it is a combonation of all the things you mentioned and maybe a little of what we don't even know why.

Honestly i think it is how they are presented that sways and garners our desire to know more about them..They are presented as mysterious,dark,erotic,seductive creatures not to mention other aspects. Hollywood just enhances and intensifies it to the extreme i.e. underworld..bram stokers dracula etc..

Theres something about them though ppl won't ignore. They come across as very sexy and worldly beings . Hard to really so for sure what makes ppl so drawn to them, but i do agree with JackofSpades as it is a mix of all of those things that gets ppl so drawn to them. =]

i think it's everything about them. from what we know and heard, we can create a perfect definition of them and can end up admiring them because of that ;)

I believe the appeal is the fact that they look like humans but are far from the norm. The sneakyness of them to blend into society. The way they are looked as freaks by "normal" people. They are a creature that we can mimic as well as fit the role. I know in highschool i was treated like less than human and was made fun of. Vampires are technically less than human, but are superior by nature.

For me, it's the power and the mystery.

I was drawn to vampirism when the dark side of my life began to awaken. I don't see the sex appeal as I don't see myself as sexy. I don't see the glamor, only the reality of feeling like a "half breed" because the vampire bloodline has been so tainted by human blood that the immortality has been lost. I am still a blood drinker though.

For me it's about the vulnerablity. The fact they can take you under to this mental state of pure estascy. Then have you at their beck and callor murder you in the blink of an eye. Or keep you as a pet. It's kind of like a BDSM appeal to it...

I've commented on a similar thread before. I believe that the vampire often represents the ultimate rebellion against society. Because they don't need jobs, food, or even a place to live, they aren't beholden to laws, morals, or normal relationship rules and any actions they take (good or bad) are completely their choice. That freedom must appeal to us in a world where we are constantly told what we can and can't / should and shouldn't do.

Most fiction shows ancient vampires not so much as friends but as respected equals. A distinct lack of any real loyalty even to each other beyond needs for self preservation.

Vampires survive on the thing that keeps any regular, joe-schmo human alive and well - blood. That's reason enough to make the vampire the only thing known to be higher than a human on the food chain. That's a type of dominance many power-hungry humans crave, thus heightening the appeal of the vampire.

For me definate sex appeal,but everyone has there own reasons...
