I have always wondered what effect medication had on paranormal ability to either increase or decrese it
my opinion decrease it because medication makes your body loose & mind relax so you can't focus then again some do opposite that so anybody else have some input
I belive the abilty to think when on medication like vicoden ect. can make some one focus a bit more on the super natural but in most cases others would disagree.
as far as over the counter and doctor prescribed meds, ithink that if they are abused it would alter the mind to think a certain way
If they alter your natural brain waves or your physical chemistry, it throws everything out of balance. They may even you out and put you at a "normal" balance, but it's not the way your system is designed, and your metaphysical abilities, etc. are affected subtly.
On the other hand, natural "medications" can have vastly different effects on your body. Shrooms, Datura, DMT, Pot, Tobacco, and other plants that have been used in native cultures for hundreds/thousands of years have many positive affects (spiritually). The downside, and this is also known by the medicine men who use them, is that they take a toll on your body, some are obviously worse than others.
Note: for various reasons, I don't condone the illegal use of any of these substances. lol. I'm just stating known beliefs.
for the record . I agree , the natural chemical make up of pants and herbs used by native shamans have used for years have very positiv effects buy also have there draw backs . While the modern lad made drugs alter the chemical make up of your brain in a very unnatural way .
I think it would vary on the person, their abilities, and the types of medication and the person's reason for the meds.
Could damper or be the opposite and enhance their abilities.
lumiya has some good points so why did this come about....i mean why did we invent drugs if we had nataral
Drugs were invented to put man in control of nature. Religion has given him the idea that he is more important, and now he is obsessed with bending nature to his will. When someone is ill, man has to invent a drug to control it. This expanded to chemical imbalances and other things that very well could have been caused by man in the first place.
But I digress...
Pain pills tend to make me fuzzy and unable to concentrate or focus which in turn dulls my ability to do anything else.
wolfkiller, I didn't disagree to my own post. By medicine, I mean the unnatural medications that alter your body chemistry unnaturally.
I think it would all depend upon what medication you are taking, the reason for taking it and how long you have been on it or will be on it. there are many factors, if its something you have been on for a long time it may not affect your abilities any more, if its just short term it may not affect them or maybe only for a short while. if your just starting long term meds it could very well pose a problem until you get used to them.
good question wolf I have wondered that myself for a long time . I think alot of the newer medicing ie antibiotics are great howver to many times do we really on modern medicine when the old ways would cure us faster
yeah good & if we could should we swicth back to nataural medications because when you take one modern pill you have to take drugs to counter its side effects & it seems only modern medications mainly do these to us so maybe natural would be better off for us to use
This is getting almost off-topic, but before we go back to the original question...
What we need to do is eliminate the sources of illness, aka poor immunity, poor quality of the environment, poor health maintenance, and poor energy maintenance. It's impossible right now, I'm afraid. Ina thousand years, the world may be in such a condition that we may no longer need "medicine", but unfortunately, we need them now.
the cure that the med wife would you or the spirit magik of a shaman they have no sideaffects
There are illnesses nowadays that are incurable by the old meds. Cancer, for example, requires powerful (albeit terribly harmful) meds to cure. The ratio of survival on conventional meds versus natural medicine leans heavily towards conventional medicine.
and on top of that there are at lest 75 tribe that people have not learn anything from in the amazon there are plants and bugs that are still being found to day
it can do both, the problem is we no longer have people trained to lead people through there experance
that is why people with old spirits need to look and learn with in them selfs so that they may teach others
Well many anti-depressants make you less sensitive. In fact, that is their main thing, to do that. They are supposed to increase your serotonin to help you relax. I take Lexapro and it did make me less sensitive, but it has eased up on the numbing effect since the beginning. I am not sure if I am less sensitive psychically. I still have intuition.
I am thinking that Xanax and Valium, all those benzodiazapines might be in the middle. They would help you relax to be able to hear your inner voice, or those around you in spirit, but if you take too much, it would numb you and knock your ass out. I take Xanax for my anxiety, btw.
I thought anti-depression meds flatline your natural ups and downs in emotion?
Honestly? I think that medication would hinder your abilities. For instance, some meds make you hallucinate, some might make you sleepy, etc, and if you are trying to concentrate it would make it very hard to do so.
Kaas: Yea, they do basically. They level you out. And they do that by helping you with serotonin levels, because there are those of us that aren't making enough to keep it cool sometimes. Hence, panic attacks. Seems that when I have a panic attack, my senses are heightened bigtime. That is because I am experiencing fight or flight, and nature has helped me survive by giving me more intense senses in those situations. Course these days, we don't have to worry about dinosaurs getting us like our ancestors....just gangs and freaks.
I normally don't take meds unless I'm in a lot of pain or literally feel like I'm about to die, so I haven't had much experiance with how it would effect you that way. But when I DO take medication it seems to make any paranormal abilities go away.
and it's so frusterating when the meds don't even work!!! I was in uber pain one day and all we had was chewable mortin so I opened it up and took a few... and it just wasn't making the pain go away.... so I waited a while and took more. well... in the end mom gets home and she asked me how many I took.... I was standing in front of her swaying back n forth... she about flipped when I handed her the bottle and it was almost empty. So a tip for everyone... sometimes motrin works imediatly and makes u feel great, but other times all you can do with it make yourself loopy and tired.
i dont take medication unless its a must have. i have gone back to all natural herbs & teas to help my body. for a while when i was taking meds to suppress my "depression" i was never myself. i was sick, miserable & turned into a couch potato. before the meds i was able to meditate, feel my spirit guide & learn more about "myself" (past lives etc)
I take alot of different medications all of which seem to dull my senses or cause me to be quite tired. I think meds would only take away from any paranormal ability.
The meds we are talking about are the psychoactive ones; these include all the ones that influence the activity of the brain. These may be used for psychiatric reasons ( antidepressants, antipsychotics, anti anxiety) and for pain relief ( analgesics). In general the psychiatric meds used as antidepressanents ( wellbutrin, prozac, zoloft and others) are numbing and make you feel like your head is full of cotton. They have a dampening effect on psychic ability. Antianxiety meds ( xanax, ativan and others) may have a positive action on psychic awareness, creating a peaceful and comfortable zone for the mind to wander. Antipsychotic meds (haldol, abilify, seroquel, geodone and others) simply increase the threshold for any psychic activity in the brain, and block the areas of the brain thought to be the origin of psychic awareness.
Other controlled dangerous substances which are psychoactive are the analgesics such as percodan, morphine, and dilaudid. These cause relaxation and may induce a trance like state.
The other CDS are those forbidden by law to possess for any reason are the most effective , they are the original psychoactive substances. Marajuana, mescaline, mushrooms, belladona, peyote and others are the doors of perception described by Huxley. Ironic, that these meds are forbidden, yet only because they alter consciousness.
I believe it is decreasing it.
I believe it is making the body dirty, like any other chemical, with that that if the body is dirty than the mind is dirty as well, so it cant recognise things in its blocked energy flow, in this case it cannot focus on its abillity.
The mind is run by chemicals, the presence and absence there of, I would think it would depend greatly on what type of chemical was being introduced, some would probably help and some would probably hinder the parts of the mind that are in tune with the paranormal.
Meds alter your mind some will Increase your senses and some will decrease your senses. So the answer is that it depends on teh meds that are being taken
In my personal experience, it depends on the med and the reason I'm taking it.
Prozac made me feel like a zombie and I couldn't work magick or sense anything. Zoloft was better but didn't control the depression. Paxil struck a decent balance, but ended up making me manic. Tegretol was pretty decent, but then I developed a mild allergic reaction to it.
The Trileptal I'm on now really messes with my ability to sense things, and I'm thinking of talking with my psychiatrist about trying to lower the dose because it's making me feel cut off from the energy that helps me stay grounded.
Warning: begin short rant...I had a situation come up last night where I needed to work some major healing with a very delicate touch and it took me way too long to get my senses to a point where I felt comfortable working so minutely. Traumatic brain injury (blunt force, 2 surgeries in 4 days due to swelling/pressure, on respirator) and I needed to get her breathing on her own so that her living will didn't have them pulling the plug Saturday morning. I've been a healer since I was little and never had to fight so hard to access the healing energy or to control it, not even for torn ligaments; I won't go through that again.
The Plaquenil doesn't seem to have any real effect on my abilities either way. The Flexeril does tend to make it a little easier to access them, for two reasons: muscle relaxants tend to do that anyway, and I'm not as distracted by the pain from my fibromyalgia. The same can be said for the tramadol and vicodin, with the change to: opiates and opioids tend to make it much easier to access psychic abilities. However, I have to be in extreme pain before I'll take one because I don't like feeling stoned; when I am in enough pain that I'll take prescription painkillers, they just cut the pain down to a minor background like a tight muscle rather than knocking it (and me) completely out.
I would have to agree that drugs cause a decrease in magical abilities due to a numbing effect on the brain waves decreasing your ability to concentrate and focus.
it all depends on what the meds are for.
if your taking adhd medication, your concentration is enhanced so it would increase your controll and attention to detail, but makes it harder to think over a wide range.
the same for natural meds, taking st johns wart may be good for certain illnesses, but it is a widely known suppresor of supernatural abilities, used during the witch hunts in salem to stop witches using their powers during trials.
so i guess theyll all have pros and cons.
wolfkiller, pot is a natural herb, and therefore doesn't fall under the category of unnatural medications (in my opinion).
Xanax makes me hallucinate, so I'm thinking it doesn't really help with my abilities.
I would think that it would depend on the medication. A "downer" type drug would cloud up the mind, whereas a "upper" medication would tend to make the person more alert, and possibly heighten their ability.
Some medications can slow one's mind and body down and so can speed the immune system...where you can't slow down.
It's difficult to say how medication effects the body or affects the mind. Pharmaceutical companies are still using us as willing guinea pigs for their experiments. I mean, testing on humans has been forbidden, and testing on animals is frowned upon, so they've started testing legally on humans again, by allowing people to volunteer.
If you've every paid attention to those commercials, at the end they usually list, in a rather quiet and quick tone all of the side-effects that come with these drugs they promote. Some of which include fatal side-effects.
Sure, a drug may help solve one ailment in us, but it causes a load of others. I mean, who's to know what these drugs are doing to our bodies and minds that we don't know about. Medical technology isn't quite up to speed to understand the true implications of what a foreign chemical is really doing to us.
By foreign chemicals, I include over-the-counter drugs, shelf-stocked drugs, and even caffeine, nicotine, aspirin, cocaine, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and 80 chemicals in pot, fluoride and chlorine, as well as preservatives in foods, growth hormones in animals we eat, etc.
It's amazing if we cut out a majority of the things we eat and replace them with organic foods grown without any help from humans and their chemicals (for mass production), how much fewer ailments we experience.
Fifty years ago, the food we ate wasn't so chemically enhanced, and it's only lately that our hospitals are laden with all kinds of new conditions faced by people who've grown up in these last 50 years who've been eating ever more of our faux-foods and fast-foods.
I say, nay to ingesting chemicals, I want pure foods again. I want to be healthy, without medicines.
I believe medicines might actually HINDER a person's paranormal abilities for the above reasons.
I believe it would depend on the medication. Some moight cloud your former abilities to where its not possible to use them anymore or it might increase them by hitting some kind of nerve or opeing a door.
I suppose it would depend on the type of medication. Some medications would decrease it, while others would magnify it.
I agree with you Daedol.. I think each medication has different effects on different people. Some help some just screw you up..
I can say that an investigator ask for all current substances in the body of a person that reports paranormal activity they want investigated.children tend to have more frequent sustained interaction with para entity then adults. This suggest that even natural chemicals could effect the reception to the stillness beyond.Caffeine,I hear causes static feedback for Audio-voyants (very rare people btw).
Pills for mental imbalances are I feel would be most likly to effect or even give false readings and false leads to mediums or would be mediums.
As stated earlier, many cultures do use herbal or other natural roots to enhance psychic or paranormal activity, although it does make you want to question as to whether it truly does enhance it or do you just think it does? lol
I think it would depend on the individual. For some it might decrease their ability while others it might increase. Its really hard to say for sure what would really happen for some people.
i think it all depends on the medication and the person takeing it
reading some of the post I would agree with most that anything that alters the chemistry of the brain will have an effect either helping or hindering it.....if you take a seditive type drug it will more then likely hinder the ability where as some type of drugs for depression might actuall incress the effect because they are setting up a balance in the chemistry of the brain of course this is just my thinking I looked and could not find any source of good information on the internet about this subject.
You have to wonder, just how many sensitive people are committed in mental health institutions and the only relief is the medication that decreases or stops their sensitivity. Some people can not handle having abilities they don't understand or are unable to control. Perhaps they even think they ARE insane... hearing voices, seeing things. Boggles the mind, really.
Such a broad question...
It would depend on the abiilty that you plan to enhance or would expect to be degraded.
I would also assume just commercial medication is intended, since you did not use the term drugs.
If you need to menally focus to perform your ability, but you are experiencing pain that interrupts your ability to concentrate, then pain medicate would assist, but not amplify the ability.
While something that would put you in a mental funk (valium, oxycodon, etc.) would cloud you out.
If you already have an ability it depends on the medication as to whether it would be affected by it. If you don't have an ability i don't think that you could trust a medicated effect to be accurate if one appears
some medications can have a lot of effects, that is why while doing psychic training the elders will usually ask that yoiu don't do any drugs ect while training....
I concur in the fact than many things "Medical" can and will separate you from an ability rather than enhance it. Maybe something is out there medication wise that may have an effect, (Gov drug research) but it would be short lived and it would not be a "true" ability, due to the continued use of the elixir or potion. For it to be permanent it (the change)would have to be on the genetic level. You are born with the doors either open or closed... and nothing can change that.
I'd have to say the same as NM. I don't think any paranormal ability is effected by medication.
im in medical school and yes medication can effect your physical and mental state of mind some medication can cause you to go crazy and halusinate and see and hear things that no one else can here and it may cause emotional stress and feeling to change it depends on the medication though but usely when your in a different state of mind then it probably means that you have takin to much or not enough but like i said it depends on the medication and the person taking the medication
Jens thank you for the post . Sweet thank you as well the opinion of a med student is great to have as I know you have the library on hand to research it alot .
It can also be an excuse for those who do not believe it exists!
canabus is all natral its been used 4 centreys so its good to highten ability and its all natral aswell. Great 4 pms ladys lol....... and 4 major pains in the body lol. JMO though.
and there is alot of studys about MJ and or canabus so its true not made up .
in my opinion prescription meds can work both ways....Some people have too many racing thoughts to be able to focus enough...meds calm you down so you can focus or think straight (IF YOU HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED THEM) I have traquilizers i take 3 times per day that to me seem like nothing...a friend took one and was messed up....
also I have messed with street drugs and with certain ones although the mental state is not clear totally...I was only able to think of one thing at a time putting more mental focus on the one thing I was doing..
That is a different spin on it . Don't qoute me , but i think your the first person with that idea
my prescribed medication plays a part in my ability,
i have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
i'm taking medication, which slightly helps
from what i've noticed
The activity of which you speak comes from energy and a human being as a whole generates and gives off a great deal of energy. Altering yourself in any way like with meds can have a huge reaction.
Hmm, can medication increase or decrease, I have read many say decrease the abilities. However I believe it is solely Dependant on what medication.I think some could possibly increase effects simply do some medication is around to help focus our minds instead of wondering it around. Where as some are meant to loosen us up.
So I think its both
I can tell you from my experience that Lexapro - an antidepressant - has caused me to be less sensitive. when I was on Xanax - it caused me to become numb to almost everything. So it depends on the person and the medication.
I also agree that some meds can cause things like halucinations causing a person to think that they are having some psychic experience that is not actually happening.
There is no true answer to the effect medication has - it all depends on the circumstances...
From my expierience, different medications work with them in different ways, either beneficial or otherwise. It's difficult for me to explain, but it basically affected how my brain was working by either dulling or sharpening my senses, awareness of my surroundings, etc.
Not saying I'm completely right or anything, that's just what I've found out for myself.
let e rephrase that some medications can strengthen it others can hinder it, some more then others
I think it would decrease your abitlites. Medication diminish your ability to focus.
your welcome but if you need any medical information about anything please ask me
I am on a number of medications and only sometimes do I feel that it effects my paranormal abilities but I'm not so sure it really has as much to do with the medication as it does me being just plain tired.
i was on vicodin after major dental work for the pain (of course prescribed by a doctor, all legal) and it really messed me up...no heightened abilities there....
I would suggest that you first look at the side effects of your medication. Depending on the drug, your affects could be minimal or even beneficial. For instance, if you're taking medication to help you focus (as in a medication for ADD), then it could help you concentrate and therefore achieve greater success.
However, many pain meds, meds for depression and neurological meds have side effects that include halucinations, paranoia, suicidal tendencies, and even psychosis. I'd hardly think that these would be helpful in any situation beyond the relief of their prescribed usage :)
thank you felix felix you said the same thing I did concerning this
some medications will focus some wont some would possibly increase some would decrease. It over all is a loose ended question, The only way to truly tell is research.
Well not sure that about meds themselves I have had vivid dreams on certain meds . I know the native Peoples of the America's believe enhance abilities
As was mentioned early Native American cultures use herbal drugs such as peyote to enhance their ability to travel higher paths to seek answers to questions. This is written about by Carlos Castenado. A very fascinating read.
I noticed that when my doctor put me on meds that my abilities where weakened.
most will decrease they dull the senses and cloud the mind.
I believe that it would depend on several factors as to whether it would increase or decrease the effects. It would depend on the person's normal abilities, their state of mind before taking the medication, and the type of medication they are taking.
something like booze would likely kill it for sure.. who knows bou somethin like pcp or something, the problem w/ psychodelics and halucogens is that they impair the ability to process information, even if they have the enhancement of perception.. which they might not.. lol
D
over the counter meds can't possibly help it...
Benzodiazepines will almost certainly kill any chance due to their sedative properties (xanax, valium, klonapin...)
barbituates might get you close but the Fear would set in and ruin it!
sober is best methinks
ayuahuasa is a rainforest medicine of sorts... has been known to stimulate vibrational energy fields
Personally I would not give credence to any paranormal experience when taking certain medication.
I understand from reading other posts that some believe that cetain drugs facilitate trips to other planes etc, I just don't see how such experiences can be valid.
Each to their own.
I would say decrease.
I also would say that most medications attempt to simulate natural medicines such as herb or plants. Many are derived from such. It originally was an effort at producing and distributing the medicines to a wide group of people and in a measured way.
i have to agree that med can decreasing your ability to concentrate and focus.
Almost subtance introduced into your body is going to have an affect.Good or bad ,large or small.Natural or not. Some have learned to use substances to their benifit, like some shaman and the like.
