So many here believe in reincarnation. Do you think it's possible that your phobias are ways that you died in a past life?

If anyone knows information on a past life, do you know how you died? Do you attribute any phobias to past life experiences?

Honestly - I don't have any data that would lead me to believe in reincarnation at this point...

That is an intresting theory...it could be something along those lines, or just life this time around as well. Who knows?

There is no scientific proof reincarnation exists..only peoples opinions and "theories" on the subject...and their so called dreams of past lives...thats all they are..are dreams.

never taugh about it, but sounds logical and makes sens....but is still confusing as some phobias ...would not be a cause of death, like the fear of bugs....especially spiders, I mean besides the deadly ones...I higly doubt a house spider can kill....but it defenitly scares me

It could go that way with a phobia being how one died in a past life but it could be a warning from the future as well.

Some places believe that it’s all a process everyone has to go through in order to achieve the highest level of life. If you are born a women, then you will be reincarnated as a slave male and then work your way up. Every life you go one level up if you’ve done what you are supposed to. As for phobias, no, I don’t think so . One of my biggest fears is water, I doubt I was a lake, but that’s just me.

I know for a fact my phobia isn't from a past life, it came about when i was young, but i never did think that phobias could be from past life's could make for interesting research.

I dont believe in reincarnation as commonly understood. However I like that idea. Most phobias have a connection to an event(s) in a persons "recent" past and others are part of evolutionary memory but then there are some that don't have an apparent "cause" so it may be possible.

I do not believe in reincarnation. If I did however it seems like a plausible theory. But then you can attribute so many different things to reasons you are having a certain new life as far as that goes.

this is a great subject but phobias can be broken.. i use to be afraid of deep water but now i go swimming in it and i use to be afraid of heights but i still climb tall ladders..

I think reincarnation is possible, but if it's a fact, then it's impossible for consciousness to be limited to humans (i.e. you're born a slave, then "work your way up" without once sliding into the life of a praying mantis) simply for the fact of our increasing population. It's estimated that in 1650, there was only about 550 million people on the earth, whereas there are now 6 billion people on the planet. Also, while I'm not familiar with the population growth rate of insects, I would think it's safe to assume their population is growing, as well. So that brings up questions of "Where the hell are all these new concsiousnesses coming from?" But, there is a type of insect, I can't recall which, that exhibits "race memory"; a young insect will avoid something that put its ancestors in danger.

Um, anyway.

So, that said, yeah, it's possible we fear things a previous body came into contact with. In fact, with previously mentioned insect, it's pretty much...fact.

I'm gonna have to look up this insect again and post a link to its information...

I do believe in recarnation.
Someone I know was interested in the 1936 flood of west virginia. A medium told them that they had drowned in a flood. To me that is too soon for one to be recarnated since they are now close to 40.

A medium told me those that are signing up for the armed forces are ones that have been recarnated from World War II

My step-Grandfather just died at the age of 82, and he was a POW of world War II

My fear of deep water occurred when I was younger and almost drowned. Either way I can only accept why I have the phobia of water and have only been told of the above.

Maybe the question is if there is recarnation....how soon do we come back?

I am not sure how I died in past lives, but I am deathly afraid of spiders. I'd hate to think I was killed by thousands of them. EEW what a thought!

reincarnation... I wouldn't rule it out- but it does go against my religious beliefs. Even then, I don't think God has given us the whole piece of pie with ultimate knowledge :) Some things are better left as a big surprise for the end the game.

Phobias are imprints /obsticles in the concsiousness that cause us to hesitate or react to uncomfortable (idealized) stimulation the creeps or hee-beee jeebies
What causes those phobias to be imprinted on our conciousness and whether that is recreated to the next embodyment is speculation but if something was to leave a bigenough imprint on the concious as to carry over to the soul then the soul found reenbodyment then I could reason that it would manifest in the new bodies conciousness.

That's very likely to be possible, although I know that some phobias are related to childhood experiences, the most common one being harlequinophobia (I think that's it), the fear of clowns.

I too had a fear of clowns, having a bad experience with some when I was a child.

But it seems very unlikely that in a past life, clowns were the cause of my death.

Yes. Phobias can pass from one life tot the next. There have been studies done on this but I'm not sure where to find that info. I will look around for it.

I've always been told my fear of high places and spiders came with me from a past life.....but I don't believe that completely as it does go against my religous beliefs as well.

I believe in reincarnation. And I believe it is possible that your fears in current life could be result of something that happened in past life.

It has been stated that a certain phobia could be residual from a previous life.. as in you drowned years ago and now in this life, have a fear of the water.

I find this line a question very interesting. I do believe in reincarnation and I have certain phobias that would go hand in hand with memories I have had of past lives. I too cant stand deep water and I have been afraid of fire my entire life! I have had visions of both drowning and burning!

This presents a good point. But I find one flaw in it. There are too many unreasonable phobias that people suffer from that seem completely impossible to die by.

But simple phobias, like those of water, fire, tight spaces and heights seem reasonable.

I'm not saying ALL phobias are from death alone, of course they could be from experiences in this lifetime. Going along with this thread, do you think traumatic experiences could cause phobias in the next life? It doesn't necessarily have to begin in a past life, it could very well start with now and carry over to the next.

As for a comment someone made about how long it takes to go from one life to the next, i'm not sure. I would think that there is no 'time' where spirits dwell. I don't think they have to wait a set amount of time before moving onto their next life.

I can just imagine two spirits 'Hey Bill, you have 5 minutes left, do you want this one or do you want to wait for the girl to be conceived in 20 minutes?' Like an assembly line, next step is reincarnated soul then onto installing the sound system.

I HATE things around my neck, I have to either have button up shirts or t-shirts with a V-neck. I remember one day, I kept feeling like I was choking and pulling at the neck of my shirt. I had a panic attack and ended up hyperventilating . My husband grabbed the neck and literally tore the shirt off of me, I almost passed out.

Great question. I have actually thought about this before. I have a fear of heights and I have always tried to figure out why. I have never done anything involving heights that would put that fear in me. I then thought that maybe that is the way I died in a past life. I also have claustrophobia which is the same deal.

It makes sense that deep in your sub-conscious your soul's past still has embedded memories. Memories that your current consciousness can't automatically remember.

So I died out being a cockroach or eaten by cockroaches?

I believe in reoncarnation... I also believe that I have had a fear of the dark throughout all of my past lives.... it explains why I have it in this life.. I believe fears just like skills and personality traits are carried from life to life...

Dragonrouge - you may not have been killed by cockroaches in a past life but what if you were a female who hated them (as most people do) in your past?

I don't think reincarnation rules state you're always, and will always be, the same sex as you are now. That brings to mind another question... what if gays and lesbians are simply still partially stuck in a past life where they were the opposite sex?

I, personally, believe that homosexuality is genetic BUT i'm just opening things up for discussion. I do not mean to offend anyone regardless of what sexuality you are so PLEASE don't make this thread into a gay/lesbian bashing session.

This is a good possibility. I am afraid to die by fire - so perhaps in my past life that is what happened. However - I am also terrified of the dentist, surgeons and spiders.

Now I can see perhaps in a past life a surgeon killed me but I don't think I was attacked by mutant spiders.

This does leave something to ponder.

Here's a question to go with that - I beacame afraid of heights after I gave birth to my daughter. Now, I never had a fear of them before and didn't have anything happen to me that would cause the sudden and strong fear. Do you think I somehow absorbed some residual fear of my daughter's past life?

i think that some phobia can be carried over from a past life... i dont fear stairs but i do have a feeling that i must hve fell off of stairs at one time.. i dont have a problem going up as high as i want.. going down.. i take ALOT of my sweet time and use both rails...

i also heard that if u suffer back pain or some kind of pain thats chronic that isnt induced by anything you did in this life time.. that your brain can carry cell memories into ur next life..

I do think that current-life phobias have somethign to do with our past life, for sure. Not necessarily the way we died, but as you said Heather, it could be something you were scared of. Btu then that would present a paradox...why was the person in your past life scared of that thing, and so on...

Wow it would make sense why people are afraid of falling to their death (heights) I havent thought about it like that ever.

Well I have a Fear of ANYTHING around my neck, It took me a year to get used to wearing a chocker which is about the only thing I can have around my neck, perhaps I was lynched or someone strangled me with a wire, I'm not to sure and don't have memories of a past live where I've be strangled, but I have had dreams.

Proof, no, i guess i do not have that, but i have feelings and intuitions that were confirmed thru mediums that did not know my experiances. I knew from around the time i was 5 that i was someone else before and before that,etc. I have phobias,yes.......and they seem to be related to past life issues.

I very much think our past fears follow us into this life. I am scared to death going over a bridge if there is water underneath it.But yet my job is being up in a helicopter collecting and transporting trauma patients, and flying doesn't bother me at all.
It's not so much the height thing and bridges..it is just..ewwww makes my skin crawl and my heart races.I have no words really save it must have been something in a previous life, perhaps I lost my life in that way once before.

I am not sure I would want to reincarnat never knowing my past and relivng life. not like we can do anything if it is.

No you may not be able to change things but just knowing where your fears come from, wether it's past life experiences, childhood trauma or anything else, might help in conquering them. That is the whole point in this thread... knowing your fears, knowing the possibilities of where they come from and hopefully working through them.

Perhaps I am not a good replier to this thread due to my many fears that are illogical to represent a past cause of death.I'm scared of dealing with auto mechanics, swimming in anything that I cannot see the bottom of, needles, touching of red meat, and many other things.

im not really sure if it means nothing but i do believe in reincarnation and i have this dream everyonce in awile of me being stabed by this guy while trying to save someone that i have a feeling was close to me and even before that if i got close to a guy with a knife in his hand if its pointed to me i freak out. yet i can have a knife and point it at me and so can a girl..i have a feeling that dream is showing a way i died. im not really in clothing of this time in it and neither are the others.

I am not sure about the phobias, but I believe that fears are transferrable in to the next incarnation. I believe that if a person had bad experiences in a certain way, those would stay impressed in the soul, and with that manifest in the persons mind in the next incarnation, and cause the incarnation/person to behave in a certain way in some certain situations..

I think it's quite possible. I have a complete intolerance of anything laying across my legs. I have to sleep with one leg out from under the blankets so they feel free. I've often wondered if maybe I was pinned in a past life.

Someone brought up birthmarks in an earlier posts... VERY interesting. Could birthmarks be where you were possible injured (perhaps the injury that resulted in your death) in a past life? I have no birthmarks whatsoever.

I'd never thought of that. I don't personally think so, though. What about the many people who have many phobias? I have a phobia of arachnids (to the point where even crabs freak me out. They have 8 appendages. Yes, I know that they only have 6 legs, but the claws on some of them look like arms.... I dunno, either way, they freak me out too), clowns (not as badly), being alone, and zombies.

Now, while I could have been eaten to death by spiders/scorpions/crabs, stabbed to death by a clown, and died of loneliness, I'm pretty sure I didn't get attacked by a zombie.

I do, however believe in reincarnation, and I suppose that a small bit of what you're afraid of today may have to do with how you were killed in a previous life. I, for one, used to be scared crapless of vampires. I had a recurring dream that I was killed by a nosferatu type creature as a child.

Maybe our phobias are our minds way of teaching us to be careful?

For those who have a phobia of clowns (I don't know the technical term) maybe being a clown and entertaining was your profession in a past life? Not all past life memories revolve around death and violence.

Hm... I can certainly see entertaining as a past life profession. I was a ham my whole life, up until probably 11th grade. then I decided I wanted to be a film maker, rather than an actor. But, if I was an entertainer in a previous life, why would I be afraid of clowns (assuming, of course that that's what they signify)?

Thats a good question... hmm. Perhaps your career as a clown failed? There are so many possibilities. I don't claim to know anything about, or believe in, reincarnation and past lives. I started thinking about phobias and possible reasoning behind them.

I wouldn't say I have a phobia against clowns but I don't like them. My only phobias are zombies and things around my neck.

I have to agree with you on the zombie one... I know I wasn't killed by one. Perhaps both phobias have something to do with their faces? Both clowns and zombies don't look like a normal human. Clowns have painted faces and zombies (at least the ones I have seen on movies when i'm looking between my fingers with my hands over my eyes LOL) have discolored skin, odd looking eyes, etc. Maybe your phobias aren't clowns and zombies, per se, but something to do with abnormal looking faces? Just a funky thought...

I know the zombie thing has to do with dead bodies... at least for me. They freak me out. I'm always afraid that they're going to come back to life, especially in funeral homes where they look like they're just sleeping, but you know they're dead. And, LOL about the watching through fingers thing... I do the same thing.

I agree with you about the clown thing. I think it's the fakeness of their whole self. They're always happy!! Nobody is always happy. I think that's what gets me about them.

Just the thought of a dead body.. ugh. I get the creeps. I was a CNA for 3 years. The first patient that died on my shift freaked me out. I had to help the mortician transfer him to the gurney and I almsost passed out hyperventilating. After a second died a few years later, I had to quit. That was the end of my medical career.

Lol. Geh... That does not sound like a good time. I've never had a medical career. I'm never going to have one either. Why? Because I'm afraid of needles. I can't watch someone get a shot, and trying to get me to stay still long enough to give me one is a rather dangerous feat.

What gets me is that I wasn't afraid of them before... as a kid, I used to be fine with them. I think I developed my fear when I got my wisdom teeth removed. I watched the dentist put the needle in my arm and my heart rate skyrocketed... I have no idea how I'm gonig to get my tats when I decide to get them... But seriously, the fact that I'm afraid of needles bothers me, b/c I wasn't afraid of them before.

I've been a diabetic for 10 years, needles don't bother me a bit. You get used to them when you have to shoot insulin into your body everyday.

My mom is also a diabetic but she is afraid of needles too. I have to give her shot to her every night.

I can't stomach them. It's not the breaking the skin part, either. I just don't know what it is. It freaks me out.

there are many people that think phobias are conected with previous life. i heard that some people go into trance to seak where in their previous life they developed phobia, and with that information they try to cure it!

well if your phobia is spider or anything else you think you couldn't have died in your past life (if you believe in it) it doesnt mean it doesn't have a connection with it.

one explanation would be a natural fear of death (some of the animal phobias are quite natural if they are unpredictable by their nature and if they are poisonous..)

another could be a glimpse on that thing you saw the last before you died in your past life.

it's so many explanations it just depends on what you realy believe and feel is right.

i personaly have no idea if i believe in past life. sometimes i think alot about it and sometimes i just cant believe.

It could very well happen.... Like being burned at the stake for being a witch then when you are reborn being afraid of fire thats not to far fetched.....

I am one who subscribes to the theory of genetic memories, and would think that Phobias could be linked to a previous ancestral being of your lineage having dealt with a severe death or trauma from the offending circumstance.

what if the only thing your afraid of is failure??

I have heard that phobias are a trigger for duel and poly-personality persons people that disassociate at a younger age that develop a stronger personality to deal with the duration of the "threat'.

I know my wife has a fear of ballons. It was childhood thing that her sister would torture her with the ballons. Then when I was watching an old series, The Prisoner, that I notice that the giant balloon sufficates people trying to escape. It's not the balloons but the fear of not being able to breathe. Her nightmares are generally are the same. Perhaps in a past life, she was buried alive.

I feel that there could be many reasons a person has a phobia. Not saying that its not possible due to past life, as anything is possible...I have a phobia of needles, but that is because of an early childhood illness. Funny thing about it is that I've got 11 body piercings and seven tattoos...nope still not over the fear yet...

I don't attribute phobias to past life deaths....if we look closely we will find most of our phobias are caused from the way we were raised or from a horrifying event that occured while we were just children.For instance say a person is highly afraid of fire ..... that person may have actually survived a serious trama from a house fire or perhaps fell into a camp fire as a small child.This in part had nothing to do with a past life,and Arachnaphobia the fear of spiders...this too can be attributed to a horrifying experience as a child....living in an old house that is riddled with cracked molding giving many hiding spots for spiders to hide in and many of the old light fixtures as well....the child is sleeping and perhaps wakes up and sees they are covered in spiders and gets biten several times may infact lead them to fear spiders.As I have pointed out events in our lives are the cause of phobias not the pastlife death.Although I do not discredit this completely,each person is entitled to see things in their own way.

So many things happen to us when we are so young we cannot consciously remember, but the event is still recorded in our subconscious.

Hypnosis is a great tool to use if the right questions are asked and the person does not lead with questions the person under hypnosis.

I don't believe in reincarnation but no I didn't think that your phobias are given back to you...you are reborn as another thing and those who claim to have been reincarnated such and such amount of times don't really remember anything about the supposed time so then why if you don't remember the way you used to be would you have the same traits?

I do not think past lifes contribute to the fears we have.From personal phobias I have I know what caused them Some of my phobias come from a tragic child hood.And some come from a Trama event I had as a young adult around 18 And I have yet totally faced that fear Call me A chicken but If you have a fear of flying And can not face the air port or the termnal then You know what I am talking about.I think some fears are harder to face then others.I Call no one chicken for not faceing them If I can not face my own phobias.

Honestly, I believe it could be possible. But some phobias are developed in childhood as well. Doesn't mean that it is the way we died. Like, I am terrified of wasps only because I was tortured with them when I was 4. (Trapped in a small tent with a swarm of them.) But yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't be a possibility.

that's a good question. i'm only terrified of tornadoes and monkeys. i hope that in a former life, i wasn't harmed by a poerful windstorm of apes and chimps. but it would explain an awful lot.

I don't think so. Phobias can be developed by things saw on the television or a movie screen. Or also in a book.

i do believe that we come back as someone else i just never thought that yeah it cold be how we died that gives us the fears we have today that is very interesting thought and it would explain my big fear of water much better......
