I keep hearing that ghosts need 'energy' to appear, given that the vast amount of energy comes from the sun, why do the majority of sightings come at night and not during the day?

I don't think it's that type of energy, bloodlife. I think they mean energy from people and their souls perhaps.

I don't believe the energy given from the sun is what helps manafest a ghost.
I think they get their energy from the people around when they are present and they suck some of the life energy from the living. just my two cents...

BLOODLIFE,

This is an interesting question. Do you think that it might be that the sun's energy overwhelms that of the 'otherworldly' spirits?

I believe its for more than one reason. First off i see "ghosts" day night.. when ever the time of day is not a problem.. which leads to my second reason...

People expect to see things like this at night.. that is when they have been told things will happen. Its a clamer time a quieter time. Much eiser to notice a slamming door no one is near when every one is in bed.. as opposed to when every one is up and kids and all are runnign around.

As FelineDraco said night time seems to be when things are calmer and more quiet and there is less hustle and bustle and poltergeists and ghosts are more noticable. I really don't think that ghosts care what time of day or night it is when they want to be noticed they do make their presents known. :-)

energy is energy is energy. Bloodlife, maybe it is a matter of being able to see apparitions better at night because of contrast and human limitations of vision.

My initial thought is based on the idea that we have energy surrounding us constantly but are usually unable to see it with the naked eye. When subjected to certain types of imagers or even isolating various forms of energy in a dark room or chamber, it becomes easier for us to see it.

BLOODLIFE,

Perhaps then you feel that there is a specific energy which they require in order to manifest?

Or could the moons reflected light by, as Sevenn suggests, a better way to contrast them?

Maybe it's a combination, where the night is also said to allow an easier access between physicality and the 'spirit world'.

STABB666~

I'm not saying that it requires energy at all, I do understand that calling it 'energy' covers a multitude of sins and allows for an easier understanding, but I think the appearance of a ghost may require something from the observer too.

As for the moons light, I think that idea is a little vague as I'm sure ghosts are seen without moon light.

BLOODLIFE,

Your question than seems to have two 'realistic' possibilities.

The first is that there is a means of adjusting ones own perception in order to be better able to see whatever form it is that spirits are, through some form of 'third eye' or sixth sense.

It would likely be a learned skill, a psychological process to come to this capability, which then leads into a question of whether the person seeing these things is enduring a schizophrenic psychosis, or a genuine change in their nature.

stillness in night eliminates most distractions from would be apparitions...if ghost exist is one question aside from what creates an apparition and how it is viewed night would be a still atmosphere to do so and if a ghost where to desperately need to appear to someone night would seem the better time to do so
Though I have heard of Ghost rescues taking place in the day i have heard of few out door sightings in during the day.

STABB666~

Lets say we go with the learned skill theory, however I still wouldn't say for sure it was a psychological process as this implies that it is the mind at work, and this may indeed give rise to schizophrenic psychosis being used as an excuse for sightings.
I still think it's something far more simple, maybe if I wasn't such a skeptic....
I was thinking more on the lines of a seed being planted, something like a pre-conceived idea placed in your head, for example, if you were told beforehand that a battle was fought 200 years ago on what is now farm land and you go there with a purpose, it's more likely you will see something, rather than not be told about the area at all.

All taking place during the day...lol

BLOODLIFE,

Ah but there is the crux. It is all psychology. Recognising the significance of a location allows the mind to have a certain point of view towards it, which could be a factor leading to the attunement of of the senses.

STABB666~

You make an interesting observation.
But if the seed wasn't planted and the mind never knew of the situation and a ghost did appeared we would not know what to believe, as rational thinking wouldn't allow for it.
The only psychology involved is what we want to study from it. If we deliberated trained our senses then that would be a whole new ball game -- that would be the psychology.

BLOODLIFE,

When the mind 'rationalises' events, it discards that which it is unable to cope with, those things which cannot fit into that individuals' current paradigm.

So even here, we see that it's an unconscious process which the psyche undertakes in order to allow 'reality' to remain stable.

You make a good point in the training the mind aspect, where for example, Ghosthunters go looking for something, have the knowledge and experience of what to look for and are more likely in that case to see it.

The psyche does undertake a role in how the mind thinks, I think it was frued who based the 3 components on it, but it's only really an influence rather than anything else, it also influences the behavior and personality traits of a person. These 'forces' are pretty much a set patten and allow us to see how a person behaves under certain circumstances, so with that in mind if the person has a normal stable mind their perception of what they see will be rational at every step of how they interpret the sighting.
I agree totally with your view on how the mind rationalises.

well i always was under the impression that most sightings or hauntings happened between the hours of midnight and 4 am, the witching hours. perhaps because the line between both worlds is thin at that time so makes it easier to cross over and be seen, so that is why at night as to the energy again i thought that they would pull whatever energy is around them to use in order to manifest

Sorry Sevenn,
what I meant by that, was it didn't necessarily have to be solar energy, as there are other energies around, so they could be using the energy from a different source...I wasn't pointing anything out specifically.

I agree with most of your thoeries but i was once told you open your mind to the otherworld they will walk though. as to say you invite them in they will come.Night is just the time we have all heard ghost appear so thats when our minds and soul are tuned in the most..I personal have seen ghost in all times of the day but mostly at night due to that fact its night and its dark and your mind starts to wonder whats out there. So your more open to ghost to wander in around you and suck your enegry ..Oh well thats how i feel about it and its always made sense to me..

Bloodlife

I think there may be some confussion regarding ghosts and those who have passed over and are generally Spirits.

Ghosts continue to haunt the same place, and are more a leftover energy signature.

Those in Spirit are seen and heard at any time of the day or night, providing one is tuned to their wavelengh.

Yes you do have a point. When I am opening my mind in the way you mean, I can feel the give and take of energy.

This is quite different to having energy 'sucked' out of me in order to 'give' energy to those I communicate with.

I am uncertain if it is possible for any person on this or the other side of life to suck or take energy from me in the way you mean......or if they do could it be energy surplus to my requirments ?

I understand that others feel differently ....but that is what I think just now.

Actually ghosts, etc. can come at any time of the day and are not stricken to the night... however I think more people "see" them better at night because of how bright they are. I have heard of ghosts being found in broad daylight. I have never heard of ghosts needing energy in order to show themselves, but there is energy in every one of us so that could be one form of energy source.

There are two types of 'energy', kinetic and potential, so can anyone tell me what category a ghost falls into as I think we use the word 'energy' far to loosely. Or have we discovered another type?????

These are types of kinetic energy

Electrical Energy
Radiant Energy is electromagnetic energy
Thermal Energy, or heat.
Motion Energy
Sound
------------------
These are the types of Potential energy:

Chemical Energy
Stored Mechanical Energy
Nuclear Energy (including fission and fusion)
Gravitational Energy

Look how things happen to the living when tied into their emotions.

They don't need energy from the sun. There are all different types of energy every where in the universe. Einstein proved that energy is equivalent to mass, so if light had energy so it has mass, because energy is mass, because energy is a particle wave, which is a energetic photon particle.

Energy is not just from the sun, so energy is everywhere around us and in the universe. Every thing that happens in every day life is all to do with energy.
Humans have mass, but our soul has energy, and this is why spirits and ghosts have energy to pass through things. The spirit departs the body, so the soul has energy.

The energy of a ghost would be electromagnetic energy, because its to with the energetic photon particle wave.
It has frequency which is the energy and the photon moves in a wave. All types of electromagnetic radiation is all the same aspect of the same particle, but with different frequencies. X- rays and gamma have shorter wavelenghts, so they have higher energy then visible light, but they all have the photon particle wave, but with different frequency, thats why gamma and X-rays go through walls and absorbed in lead or calcium in the bones. But light bounces of walls because it does not have enough energy like gamma.

When i had cable there was a show on travel channel before about the group that goes around to haunted places trying to dredge up ghosts.
Their words not mine.
I noticed that every time they showed them going it was nighttime and someone in the group said that it seemed the less people that were around the better chance it was that the ghosts would appear.
The places they were visiting were supposed to be tourist destinations so i guess that is why they were talking about less people being around and went when it would not be in business during the day.
As the energy from the ghost hunters were enough to draw the ghost out but too many people would make a ghost more apt to hide; again their words not mine.
I always sort of wondered if their equipment had something more to do with drawing out the ghosts rather than the group of people itself.
One of the cameras they were showing seemed to have that infrared lighting sort of like night scopes on a rifle might have.

I don't know what energy it would be part of because I don't think anyone knows or they would be able I would think, have a pipeline to discarnates but instead they bicker about it. I am in agreement that basically energy is energy.

In the old days it was called ectoplasm. No one has proven that existed. Now generally this had to do with people who were actually trying to contact a spirit rather than having them just suddenly appear. The entity supposedly drew energy from those who were trying to contact it.

Now as far as apparitions just appearing one of the indicative signs many comment upon is the sudden cold as if the entity siphons off all the energy of the general area. Some "use" to believe that is why we would see orbs sometimes and these were spirits who couldn't fully manifest for whatever reasons barring dust, rain, etc being the cause. I get steamed over the new and improved debunker searcher that just chalks off everything to natural causes they haven't even proven. AND that only the novices believe orbs have anything to do with spirits. They don't know that to be the truth but energy accumulation seems to be associated with manifestation of the spirit. I don't think it matters in defining it into electromagnetic or anything else because I think it is whatever works in close proximity.

I personally do think electromagnetic fields has something to do with some because of research on the Entity case.

The power of the imagination, engaged energy, as well as entuisasm, that is likely to produce any number of things to be perceived as ghost activity, or even an apparition. Imagination the same thing that makes a person think a magician pulls a rabbit from an empty hat.

Thats a good rationalization but you cannot chalk off all the myriad of cases due to imagination, misjudgement and faulty premise. There are just too many documented cases for hundreds of years. It's kinda the way people try to chalk off UFO abductees as a case of hysteria and imagination but we weren't there were we. Some things you can relegate to the imagination, but not all of it. There is too much anecdotal evidence to the contrary from all over the world. Are they legends expanded...who knows but they deserve more of a consideration than a mass hysteria or figment of the imagination. Hans Holzer has been studying this phenomena for years and is now quite old. He has been a part of many major hauntings. He is the grandfather of paranormal investigations and he doesn't use any modern contraptions at all. He doesn't even approve of them. It has to follow that under certain circumstances all of the equipment are viable for this type of situation which has never been proven. It's a best guess shot at trying to make the investigations legitimate and scientific.

So has Dr. Nandor Fodor, and there is a margin of unexplainable activity, yet as some would hype that activity to serve their purpose, and claims really complicates the whole field.

I have a story about a ghost I seen in the day inside a museum on my own with my dog.

There was a tall man opposite to me standing muttering to himself it must I have been looking for his wife. It first I did not realize who he was. I got suspicous, because he was dressed in a black suit with a bowler hat and nice walking stick and shiny black shoes, he was pale and looked real. He was in his own time, because he did not look at me. My dog did not notice, because he only showed himself to me, I have curious with ghosts for years. He looked like a respectable officer from world war 1, and I think he wanted to tell his wife something, because he did not get the chance to tell his wife something in his past life. So after 5 minutes he walked round the corner, so I followed him, and soon as I went round the corner where he went, he had gone. I went into the next room and I told this man, and I said " Have you seen a tall man with a black suit" and he replied and said "no I have seen nobody come in this room" Thats when I realized I must have seen a ghost, because he dressed in clothes from 1914 - 1919.

The thing is about ghosts is some wonder in there own time or past, because he wants to tell his wife something, and he needs guidence from someone in living world, to tell him that he is dead and wife is waiting for him in the spirit world. If I knew he was a ghost from the start, I would have spoke to him to tell him what is wrong? can I help at all? because he needs to be guided by someone. He might be a spirit that does not realize he and his wife is dead, so he is a lost spirit stuck in his own past or time, with unfinished business, and his past will carry on repeating itself over and over again like a cycle. The only way he can move on to spirit world, only if someone in the living world can talk to him and help him move on. It can only be someone, who he shows himself to, like me for example somebody who is good at communcating with spirits, like mediums and people who the ghosts show them self too.

This thread has brought to me a wonder I have wondered before, could a ghost exist? that is a common question.. and how does a ghost exist follows, perhaps I imagine as possible.. it is not so much what "substance" that makes-up a ghost, but the displacement that a ghost creates.. for matter to occupy the same area, a displacement needs to happen.. measuring what is not in an area could be a factor.

I am a bit jaded to ghost, I can produce a lot of things people experience as ghost, yet their are a few things I still hold in gem for research.. if ghost exist as some sensationalist would have there would be a great disturbance around us.. all the time.. so what factors would "customize" a ghost for an area?

I was raised by my own belieafs and free will. Anybody can see a spirit, adults and children, if you believe in your own free will. Do you believe in spirits? its like saying is there life in the universe? People are raised to anwser that question by there own beleifs, not by other peoples opinions.

still others see it with a creative imagination, I hear plenty of.. anything is possible, yet I hear very little creative possibilities.. outside of the ones people use to support their claimed sighting, or possible sightings.

As the people that claim to have some connection with spirits are followed with zeal, until they are exposed, then they are put in the fraud category, and the next "genuine" performer comes in, varies the tricks, once again the energy is feed, and people are lead to believe that person must know something.. and their "showing" something in demonstration.. so the imagination is fully capable of being tricked to believing a performance is a ghost.. now what of actual ghost? Well with all the fraud, one must wonder.

OK i can post now hehe..... the energy i was referring in my message to you was....Electrical Energy
Radiant Energy is electromagnetic energy
Sound.

There is all kinds of energy this is why an EMF reader is handy if your hunting...EMF stands for electromagnetic field.

And as i said before in my message there is EVP as well or commonly known as white noise... a way for a ghost or spirit to communicate where normally our ears will not pick up on it.

As far as what i believe a ghost is someone who has not passed over and does not know they have....
A spirit has passed over and is just paying a visit...
And don't get me started on poltergeists because there is another thread on which there is quite a discussion....and i added my input there. lol

I personally think if a ghost or spirit wants your attention.. they will get it.

Alot of people hear whispers in their ears where no one in the same room heard anything at all.

I also think that you can also spot them when they are off guard as well.

It has nothing to do with night or day... i do think it's easier to catch at night only because of the quiet....same goes for abandoned houses... they are not very noisy.

I think we can all see or hear them... just some easier than others... it all goes back to how we are raised i think....some of us are told such things do not exist and after hearing it for so long one can believe that to be true... and therefore block out any chance of experiencing this sort of thing.... or if experienced it gets explained away.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

If you were to assume that ghosts draw energy from the sun the easiest comparsion to make would be with objects that glow in the dark. These objects are charged up while sitting in light and then glow when light is removed. Ghosts, therefore, could theoretically gather energy from the sun during the day and use it to appear at night when the sun goes down.

Though they say that ghosts get their energy from the sum i dont believe so.I think ghosts get their energy from the living.I think thats why they seem to attach themselves to certain people and places.Even p[laces like waverly even though people dont live there people are in and out on tours all the time so being around people they are able to collect enough energy to stay there.

It's quiet at night, and dogs & cats appear to see ghosts better then humans, and they hear up to ultra sound. Ghosts are spotted mainly and less in the day, because at night they are more noticible and less people or around.

I've had paranormal expiriences even during the day, when I asked why the majority happened during the night, no one mentioned energy they told me because during the night we have less defense...therefore I'd guess more energy to the spirit?

And maybe it's not in the spirits ''decision'' to appear more in the night, it is people who see them more during the night because of our limited sight.

Also the fact that during the night things are quiter have been mentioned, another idea would be that the spirit wants to appear to the particular person alone.

Everyone has mentioned some really great points, there is hardly much left to say!

Things happen more so at night be it that it is calmer and more quiet, or the expectations...it could even be that we are far more relaxed in the evenings and far more open.

Even despite that, people do see and experience things during the daylight hours. Its not strictly a night time deal. Visitors of Gettysburg see soldiers that they believe are actors...only to find out there aren't any reenactments that day.

I am under the impression, that most manifestations are based on triggered responses of energy imprints of those who have died in a manner often violent or in other means with something specific consuming their minds that was left unfinished. When this energy imprint is sparked or triggered by something it creates an energy loop thus allowing it enough energy to manifest. Most circumstances presented are at night usually because of the specified tie to certain kinds of energy.

I try to avoid saying this, but "I saw a show on TV".

Well, I saw it on TV so it must be true, right? In this case, I'm a little more inclined to believe it. Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi channel. Great show. Sometimes you see something, sometimes you don't. I've seen them in rooms when, after they've asked the "ghost" for proof of its existence, a seemingly untouched flashlight turns on by itself - or a chair with no one around scoots across the floor. The only thing that disturbs me about the show is that it's always done at night, inside, with the lights out. And they whisper - why?

Anyways, the above examples of movement require some from of force - or energy. Most often it is claimed that certain areas of the room feel cold. This is reported shortly before or after a phenomenon occurs. If we believe the modern explanation of heat as an excitation of activity between molecules, then the absence of that heat may either be a reduction in activity (antithetical to our discussion) or a reduction in highly active molecules in those cold spots (meaning they are gathering in a spot in order to manifest as a ghost). This requires a further discussion on homeostasis of temperature but provides some explanation as to what kind of energy it may be - chemical.

As for where it is stored - a possible theory could be that it is stored in the place it haunts. To haunt literally means to inhabit. Just as our spirit inhabits our body, so does a disembodied energy inhabit a certain location. This helps explain why ghosts don't tend to travel from place to place. To ask why it is contained within that place or haunting could be akin to asking why we are trapped in our own bodies.

So the next question is, why at night? Well, I have no answer for that. Perhaps they're just nocturnal. If humans are diurnal creatures, and ghosts are the opposite of alive (like vampires) then perhaps they have to be nocturnal just to be contrary.

MyArmyMyMilitaryMyLife,

I'm going to ask that you think about eating for a moment. Why do we eat?

That is from where our energy comes. We ingest carbon-based matter and we inhale air containing about 21% oxygen. Our bodies transport the molecules of the foods we eat to our cells along with the oxygen we breathe. Inside the cells, the carbon-carbon bonds are broken and replaced with carbon-oxygen bonds. Every chemical bond requires a given amount of energy to maintain but a carbon-oxygen bond requires less energy to maintain than a carbon-carbon bond. That gives us a surplus of energy. The left over carbon and oxygen are transported out of the cells in the form of carbon-dioxide, (two oxygen atoms linked to a single carbon atom), and transported to the lungs where it is expelled.

To simplify this, think about the way an internal combustion engine works because it's essentially the same system. Hydrocarbon fuels are mixed with air containing oxygen and then ignited via a spark. Combustion is little more than the combining of oxygen to molecules of other matter -- oxidation. The molecules in the hydrocarbon fuel are relieved of their carbon-carbon bonds which leaves a valent electron, ready to accept another bond. If it bonds with oxygen, there is energy left over. That energy presses against the piston, moving it down through the cylinder. And that's where the energy comes from which propels your car.

The difference between the human body and an internal combustion engine is that we don't need to apply that extracted energy immediately. We can store the energy instead which we do by bonding a phosphate atom to an adenosine diphosphate molecule, making it adenosine triphosphate or ATP (See: the ATP cycle). When we need energy, we simply break the bond between the original ADP (adenosine diphosphate) molecule and the third phosphate atom and reclaim the energy which was maintaining the bond. Think of it as a battery in the form of a single molecule. Of course we have these ADP and ATP molecules all through our body, stored in muscle tissue and in our blood-stream.

So, hopefully you can see that we are not generators of energy. We're simply extractors of energy and we're intensely inefficient at this process.

So from where does the energy come? The vast majority for beings on Earth comes from the sun. A star is largely a ball of hydrogen. Hydrogen is the simplest element in that a hydrogen atom contains 1-proton, 1-neutron (with rare exceptions), and 1-electron. Helium is the second least complex element in that it contains 2-protons, 2-neutrons and 2-electrons. That means if you could take two hydrogen atoms and fuse them together, the result would be a single helium atom. The intense gravity of the sun, working along with a process known as quantum tunneling, manages to fuse hydrogen into helium, which is only possible due to a phenomenon known as Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle.

If we were to carefully weigh the two hydrogen atoms and then weigh the resulting helium atom, we'd find a loss of about .7%. So a helium atom weighs 99.3% of what two hydrogen atoms weigh. The question is, where did the missing matter go?

And the answer is, it was released as a single photon and a quantity of heat energy. This accounts for the heat and light given off by the sun and other stars. And a small fraction of that heat and light travel some 93-million miles to Earth. Once here, plants do something absolutely amazing which provides the possibility for us to exist. Plants engage in a process known as photosynthesis -- they convert light directly to a simple sugar and it's this sugar that the plants feed upon. That energy ends up stored in the plants (as calories), which are then eaten by animals. Those animals who don't eat plants eat the animals who do eat plants.

So the energy first results from fusion of hydrogen into helium in the sun. A tiny quantity is given off as heat and light and plants utilize the light to create sugar -- calories. We eat those calories and extract the energy through the chemical process I outlined above.

We are utilizers of energy, not creators of energy. Does that help your understanding of the process? If not, I can try to explain it in a bit more (or less), detail.

I think thaat they get there energy from the living the only reason why they cant be seen in the day iss because they just disappear in the light rays from the sun yet they still gather energy from us and the sun but at night they find other ways to gather energy thats all i got to say on that

In looking around several threads (not just this one), I've found it interesting that so many people reference "energy" for those things they wish to assert as real, despite having no evidence to support them as real.

It occurs to me that perhaps many do not realize that energy is a physical thing. It's a part of the physical world, not a non-physical world. There is no evidence of anything outside of the physical world. Everything we've ever confirmed to exist is physical. The non-physical is simply an assertion which attempts to hide proclaimed concepts from falsifiability.

For anyone who may doubt this, I offer Einstein's most famous equation;

E = MC^2

For the benefit of those who don't know, the "E" stands for Energy. The "M" stands for Mass and the "C" stands for the Speed of Light. That "^2" simply tells us to square the speed of light.

To perform a bit of mental exploration on this and explore what it can mean, this tells us that Mass and Energy are simply two states of the same thing. Think about this; the entire universe could theoretically be converted directly to energy. We detect energy by the affect it has on mass. But if all mass were converted to energy, we would be unable to detect anything. We would have apparent nothingness (however, the concept of "nothing" is largely misunderstood). To the observer, it would appear that absolutely nothing exists. And yet, was Einstein demonstrated and nuclear research has demonstrated, the entire universe could be reconstructed out of this apparent nothing. Energy is not nothing -- it's physical.

If you don't have a physical body, then you're not composed of energy.

If an entity (any entity), has energy, then it theoretically contains the potential to have mass. And yet when we die, our body (the physical part) remains here and lifeless. Only the asserted (but unevidenced), non-physical part leaves. Then everyone wants to turn around and talk about the non-physical part by calling it "Energy".

It is my understanding that certain paranormal activity can happen during the day but it is overlooked or missed because of being busy, noise, etc. At night a person pace tends to slow down and that's why paranormal activity is mostly seen or heard.

I believe that was stated on the Ghost Hunters show one night and it just stuck with me and it makes sense.

Another angle about ghosts and the such is a haunting of an object, for example, a clock, or something of that nature...do any of you believe that that can happen?

I would suggest that assertions of paranormal events are most often suggested to occur after dark because humans are inherently visual animals. Provide severe limitations to our ability to see and we're at our most vulnerable. That means we spook easily. Bumps, creaks, squeaks and other sounds that wouldn't bother most of us during the day can cause our hearts to pound if heard in the dark.

And since we can't see what's happening, our imaginations kick in and we begin to imagine all kinds of implausible and unevidenced things. Our egos tend to promote insistent assertions for such things once we've made the claim. No one wants to look foolish so as long as no one can prove we didn't see, hear or feel what we claimed, we stick to our guns and insist that it's all true. When the complete lack of evidence suggests that our claims are unsupportable, we tend to try to hide them from testability by proclaiming they're some non-physical energy (which is a contradiction in terms), or otherwise, unable to be verified via the very same techniques which have consistently shown themselves to be utterly reliable since the development of science.

as a ghost my self, I find people are so distracted by their imagination, seldom witness any activity. I also notice that people that are just spook by something with a physical origin, would rather claim ghost then admit they where spooked by a cat.. wild animal.. popping cabinet.. vacuum slams.. rattling pipes.. creaky board.. Grant it, it is a blast to watch people in their hightened alertness.. and reactions, but I also explore the recovery from fright, or reaction after immidiatly unexplainable occurance
How many times will people go out to a haunted place .. (spooky environment) and miss out on the bonding experience it can bring to friends, learning their reactive bases.. how their accepted coping and investigation skills apply? I like how I can scare one person and the next month they are wanting to watch others be scared like they where.. I like how when I agree to repeat the effect for their friends.. then I switch the effect, to once again scare the person inviting the new "mark".

I thought about being a ghost for a while but since I don't have my own washer and dryer, the need to keep all of those sheets washed and thoroughly bleached just wouldn't work well for me. So I gave it up and decided to just lurk through the Internet. ;-)

Boo!

-chuckles- No matter how rediculious the sheet thing is, if a ghost can hold a physical form a sheet would be a good way to get itself shown.

Based on all of the (unevidenced and unsupported), assertions I've seen here, ghosts/spirits/demons/angels/poltergeists (etc.), already hold a physical form. People consistently refer to "energy" as though energy weren't a part of the physical world (the only world ever confirmed to exist). If they're a form of energy, then they're physical and thoroughly detectable. Since they've never been conclusively detected, I think we can rank them with Leprechauns and mermaids.

Of course I was being a tad facetious about the whole sheet-thing, but I suppose that's because I don't see anything less absurd about the standard old sheet-looking ghost than the more common ghost-concepts.

I would think a ghost can be cued, all that is needed is a group of very hyper observant seekers.. and a very spooky environment.. and at least one person that is predictive of activity, as well as adapt at suggestive patter.

Someone mentioned that should a ghost speak its in a whisper and they didn't know why?

Well, it takes energy, much like everything else. It take energy to talk when living and when you are alive you can replenish and make your own energy. When dead, you have to draw it in.

A few thoughts;

If a ghost needs living energy to appear, why are they less likely to appear in the daytime when there's more people around to draw from?

I've seen ghosts both day and night. I think although they're around in the daytime it's easier to see them at night because a - your mind is more open to it and b - they 'show up' better in the dark.

The hour between 3am and 4am is said to be the best time to see ghosts as your mind is at its most receptive.

As a ghost muyself I like to operate between the hours of 3am and 5 am,
that is the time people are home from the bars.. they spook easier..

I draw enery from the macho people in a group.. the ones that try to scare others simply with observational suggestion.. yet when they get an eye full of this ghost they flip all over themselves..
