Which do you think is better Books or Movies.. myself Books.. No movie maker can be in the head of the writer, Unless it is the writer making the movie.
theres always somethign lost with the transition form book to movie as the whole book is cramed in to a movie thats a couple of hours. Books will always tell the tale better until theres someones thats willing to make a movie that tells it just how the book has
Very True.. Can you Imagin a movie, being like Interview with a vampire as it truely read? Box offices would make much more money. There are some Books tho, That should Never be made into Movies. Needful things, just to name one. Awesome book, Horrible Movie.
a book is more detail mentally which i love a good book, but i like movies too if they make it as detailed.
Im interested to see How Constantine is. I didnt get to see it when it was in theaters. SO yay. NO one SPOIL it for me
definatley books,,, i read the harry potter series,, omg, i couldnt put it down( a must for everyones inner child) then saw the movie and it killed the images i already had built up in my head,, my imagination as to how hogwarts and the characters apperared was so greater than anything that could ever be put to film.....
If the movie is good,fine..and if the book too is good, fine still!
I myself hate reading, but I think that books are better. There's more detail, and you can build the story in your head the way you see it while you're reading. Using your imagination is funner ^_^
But don't get me wrong, I loooove movies too!
I have a very creative imagination, I write myself my own books...LoL maybe a little too creative ;)
books are always more informative and mostly books are better then movies but you can't make such an inpact on books of certain scenes, like ''8 MM'' the underground bondage scenes are pretty effective
i dont really know, i wud say movies since i dont read much
In my opinion, I think books are better; they're more detailed. But I do not like to read unless it is a HP book.
I think books are better because you create your own movie in your head while you read, its an awesome thing
books are so much better,i love to read-it holds you so much better than a movie can-i do love to watch movies also...but definattly choose a book first.
NOW How did I know "It" would be brought into this??? ARGGG *runs* that damned clown freaks me out.. I honestly think in the recent weeks the best books I have read would be the Harry Potter ones.. It saddens me that they are trying SO hard to match them up, yet theres NO way that they can as of yet.. Tho the Movies I did think were very well made.
i prefer movies, even though there not nearly as detailed as books, i just simply prefer movies because i dont like reading
It depends on if the book was made into a movie. If it was, I like the book better. It also depends on what genre the book or film is.
It always depends on the book or movie but I would most likely choose the book over movies any day. With books you get to use your imagination more, you get to choose how a character looks like and how the surrounding areas look. books you have to concentrate more This means I get to forget about reallity for a while and any thing that can help me do that is ok with me.
Well it s difficult to answer better will be to read the book and then to see the movie but to answer at your questin i choose movies because when you are reading you must think how people look like and others but when you see the movie and their act i think is more intersting.
depends...most of the time books, but other times the movie is better than the book, rare...but it does happen sometimes
Books! Movies take away from your imagination. I find there are very few movies that do the novel justice.
I prefer books generally. However, movies are definatley better to curl up with someone to watch.
And the rare occassions a movie can actually live up to the book.
"The Green Mile" is one of the few movies I've found that actually did the book justice. I sat in amazement through most of that movie, becase with large portions of it, while watching the movie, I was seeing nearly identical versions of the images in my head while I read the books, being projected onto a screen.
I think the books give out my detail on whats happening when you read it
i like movies better.....but some books r really good..better than some movies...
i have to say books because it seems they go into more detail because well they have to
Books are better. the book make you dream and see all you need and whis and make your own "film" in your hear. your imagination works. it's your own world and your rules.
books are way better
way more details
its kool
now movie can have that
u only have your eyes on the "film star"
A book is way better then a movie and i totally agree the movie probly would be better if the writer was the one directing the movie.
They both have their good points. Sometimes you just want to sit back and enjoy a good movie, other times the peace and quiet of the book is better. But you can't really make a movie exactly like the book.
Take Interview With The Vampire, as one of the commonly used examples. If it were exactly like the book, their would be no surprise, not to mention the fact that it would run too long. The writers have to choose the best parts of the book in order to tell the story as best they can, while keeping within budget. At least the screenplay was done by Rice herself. Don't even get me started on Queen Of The Damned.
Hmm, I did have a point here. It's just to say that comparing the two can be difficult. But as far as just movies vs. books, my vote's for books.
i agree the books beat the movie, but some times the movie can make it better or worse
i like books i don't like movies much, especially those adapted from books. books are more interesting and have more detail
books are better for detail but with the new tech stuff they can do with movies they are pretty good too....... look at the Lord of the Rings they are really close to what the books are
it's hard to say... a lot of the time i prefer books because i will picture certain scenes in a way far different from the way a filmmaker would.
books have more details and its great to use your imagination so books.
Books almost always beat movies. Books just have more information than the movies. Movies normally leave things out or change too many things.
yes Elvira ...the books have more information ....
but instead of reading...you can stay in front of the TV and enjoy :)
now sit back and relax!
I personally like both. I like to read the book, then go see the movie and then read the book again... but I don't always have time for that... :)
I like movies but books i find more fun as they take my imagination to heights that I've yet to find in a movie...
books are better
but the books of the film of the book are soo bad its unreal
that gose for games, a game of a film sucks
...aghh contantine bugged me ....good film but how can they do that to the comic books

he is suppost to be blond british and kill only using his lighter.

this just dose not work Keanu Reeves as Johnny-boy. diasaster , the spirit of the character and comic has just been spat on
books without a doubt! i love to read and always will! it make you clever! by the way HELLO EVERYONE.. i have been working my ass off .. not had much time to post etc.. hope everyones well :D
Definitly books ,, I dont watch tv or go to the movies.....So I read alot...
Angitia
I agre that books are beter then movies. Becouse the book has all the details that the movies seams to forget:/
books..they are deeper and actually create vivid images that are better than those on screen..at least for me
I say books. You can make the story how what to by adding more detail than the movie could. Take harry potter for example. You got a different view of what the arthor was writting when you read it then you did when you saw the movie.
My thought is very simple on this. No movie maker can imagine what I see in miy mind. it would coast to much.
Definately books. When I read, I see what I'm reading in my mind. And usually movies leave out a bunch of stuff I saw as incredibly important. I can enjoy both though, even if it didn't meet my expectations.
thats a very hard question. i think books (i love to read)
I believe I like books better in the sense of details because you can become much more a part of the story with a book but when it's a movie details are left out and emotions is never truly capture, but movies are nice because the names have faces and you can watch teh story play out.
Looks like the most of every body here likes books more then movies:P
i would have to say both casue i read books and i like watching movies my fav book is vlad
i can't really choose. books alwayz help people work their imagination, but movies communicate other magnificent imaginations (tim burton for example). they're both good to me.
I prefer books that way you always get to know everything. Plus reading it, you're the directot making your own movie and no one can tell you it is wrong. Because you're making it how the writer wants it to be.
i choose books... because in a book you live the story... and everyone else imagines something diferent... like the character's appereance or the location... it lets the imagination go wild
Books...more explanation, more filled in, and it contains the CORRECT story. Thank you.
~Morgana~
I, too, would have to choose books, and for several reasons.
ElderD said one of them very well - even though this country (sheesh, especially in *my* region of it) we do have a history of banned books, of late, that kind of censorship has been fiercely fought. (How alliterative, lol) There exists far less regulation regardingf who has access to what when it comes to reading matter.
I adore the smell of books. Especially old books. I am a very ... multi sense oriented person. The texture of teh paper and cover, the scent of the book, the words on the page ... all of that brings me to the biggest reason I would choose a book over a movie.
I have a hell of an imagination. I have yet to see a movie that could come even close to what my mind has given me when reading.
=)
My $0.02.
I love getting lost in my imagination..
Books are always better..
Because your perception will never be the same as anothers..
Good movies are great timekillers, and can be a social thing, while reading is by yourself.
but then again, I love books. I prefer reading.
I just don't have the time to read lately.
Books are great, you get what you pay for. Movies don't/can't always really do justice to the true content of the story.
There's only so much you can do in so little time when it comes to movies.
But, books. Definitely books. My imagination is a lot more vivid/wild than any special effect can muster....
I think books are better because you can use your imagination instead of seeing things the way Hollywood wants you to see them
books always books you have almost no restritions with books you can be free moves you can't it's just there and thats all.
i injoy watching movies, but i would rather read a book, most the time with movies there are so many qustions left unanswerd, an no special effects can compare to the power of the minds imagination
no doubt about it books are better but it's fun to go to the theater to watch a movie
a book bc they usually leave out some things in movies that the book still holds
Yeah books are definitely better than movies...the detail alone is more in-depth than a movies budget could allow for and i like using my imagination....
When I want to think and use my mind, Books. Books are sooooo much better than a movie. The right book can be an escape from reality, they can freak you out and scare you more than a movie. I read a book called "The Sleepless" by Clive Barker. When I was reading the book, I thought oh yeah this is cool, it wasn't until I actually went to go to sleep that I realised just how much the book had impacted upon my subconcious, movies don't do that for me.
For me movies are something to do when your bored and you don't want to have to think. You just want to laze around and do nothing, but you want something to occupy your thoughts. You don't really have to think to watch a movie, the director has done that for you already. But I am always interested in watching a movie that was once a book, it's allways interesting to see how the director and screen writer have interpreted the written text and just how different their views are to your own.
For a good, in depth story I prefer reading. If I'm feeling lazy, movies are nice
speaking of which....
*looks at the 20 library books behind her*
better get to it ;)
I would have to say books are better, I can always find myself relating to one of the characters when watching a movie it takes away of the imagination part of my brain.
books are definately better, that make you use your imagination unlike movies that tell you what to imagine. I like movies but books are definately better
Books because of the better detail.
For example, the Book, The Queen of the Damned, absolutely faboulous, and the movie the Queen of the Damned, sucked ass because it didn't follow the book at all. Though the people that played Lestat and Akasha where yummy looking. o.o;
I always like to watcha good movie, but mostly I need to read a book.
Definitely books, movies are too crammed and they leave out many interesting things...
books, the movies that try to follow books usually aren't good. Ever read Bourne Supremacy? Movie was nothing like the book.
That is the way it is with a lot of movies these days, *sighs* but, I still stick with books.
depends on what your trying to do. Books have more detail and lets you use your imagination but movies require less time and thought.
Well said...You can stop in the middle of a book but it's hard to stop in the middle of a movie, unless you're watching it on DVD or something.
The only true place that your soul can become one with the characters, treating yourself to a first class ticket into the world the author creates. A Book of course, because more can happen and make it seem real.
I'd have to say books over movies. Even though I work in a cinema, books are more engaging to me. Watching a movie is a somewhat passive experience.
I think you have an excellent point about the head of the writer not being in a film. For instance, although Anne Rice did the screenplay to 'Interview With The Vampire' it was extremely different to the book.
Films can be marvellous entertainment, but its also taking someone elses vision of a book, something personal and unique to each person, and just spoon-feeding this one vision to the rest of the world, and making us too lazy to come up with our own.
They say that a picture speaks a thousand words. But what have you achieved if you dont write these thousand words yourself?
i would have to say movies because i have a hard time picturing things
thats a hard question, i would sa a book, becasue nothing can beat the original, but i have seen movies that are way better than book was. but i would say book
Book hands down. Or well about 95% anyway. Movies based on books always leave so much out and change too much while books based on movies are a disgrace to literature. Course I'd much rather watch the Star Wars movies than read the books, simply cause I'm lazy. *laughs*
books....cause books are so much better than a movie being made that is or isnt based off of a book, unless it is the writer of the book themselves making the movie
I for one am a firm believer in books, since I have been reading since I was small, and reading way above my level-reading transports me in a way movies try to, but can't quite get to...and no matter how true to a book or idea a movie is, it can never be as vivd as my own imagination.
books are better at times. the movies based on their own books leave out a bunch of important information.
i enjoy books because you can slowly build up the characters and enviromnet in your head and you know that if someone else read it there thought would be completely different
It really just depends. Ive seen books that are better than the movie and then Ive seen movies that blew the book out of the water. It really just depends ont he movie and the storyline authors and writers.
Books, except on those rare occasions where the movie dominates.
I personally enjoy books. They go into so much better detail and you can really get into the persons mind. I find books addictive if I pick one up I can't put it down where as if I watch a movie it can really bore me and I have to turn it off....
i love movies but books are deeper
they are more detailed
I think they should make a movie of the book, 'Wizards First Rule' by Terry Goodkind, just to see if they can pull it off. lol.
for me I woul say books are better in the aspect of you being able to create teh world described in the book and making it every bit as awesome as the description and your imaginationa allows, though movies are handy for people with little time to read and an interest in basic plots derived from a wonderous novel.Aslo movies are just easier to grasp as they usually remove all the "unesessary" complicated portions to allow everything to flow whithout much thought from the audience, so i say for lazy poeple or people who want to enjoy the novel but have no time to read than watch the movie if you have a choice than definetly read the book.
They r both great. However, I'm a slow reader so I'd rather sit down for a good movie most of the time...Not enough time to read a book with this crazy life and these crazy kids...
But there is something to be said for books...Leaves things to your imagination and often times in movies, many things are left out in order to conform to time schedules.
I prefer books simply, becuse I didnt see movies that often when i was a child. I would much rather see a play to a movie any day as well.
books cause movies tend to become boreing after a while when books sometimes you can read over and over again
i definentlyu preffer books to films, because in a book you use your imagination to create a character or a scenery, and there are alot more things you pick up in books than in movies, where everything seems to be happening at once.... and i can relax more with a book. and feel like i can relate to tha character. although i do like to watch films, buh i can only watch tham by myself...
I like books better because you get the full experience but with movies parts of the book are left out, the thing though that is good about movies is that it makes the book come to life, if you dont have an imagination.
books because you get a better experience and you get more invulved
Yes, I like both.
But I prefer movies.
Most of the time, they don't take as much time as the book does. Most of the time anyways.
Plus you can't get a scare out of a book!
Ah yes, no creepy music or sudden movements and sounds when reading a book... I find them annoying sometimes though.
Yeah. If I were to jump at something.
It wouldn't be the sudden movements or faces popping up, it'd be the loud sounds blaring in your ear.
But I love getting scared. So I love movies.
It usually depends on my mood at the moment while watching the movie. Sometimes I like watching those kinds of movies when sounds and movements pop out (I rarely jump though, only when the face popping up is something that I really dislike, like bloody rotting zombies or something like that), sometimes I'd rather be resting in peace (no, not the dead kind of RIP =P).
Haha. I know.
If I'm in a bad mood, I'll turn anything into gore. Really hard to explain. My mind works really weirdly.
But yeah. I don't like rotting faces popping up. It's just...too grotesque when you see rotting flesh pouring blood.
It's not scary, and really it isn't all too gross. But one time I seen it, I dind't like it. In Amityville Horror. That's the only image I've ever seen that is too grotesque for me.
{But I love the movie, and every other part of it}
I'm just like oO;; when I see it XDDD
I don't mind seeing them, but I don't like them...They creep me out...If I should ever come ftf with one I'd go ballistic and burst all within 5 yards from me's eardrums.
So...Anyways...I prefer books >_>;;
i pick books cause i love harry pot head which is harry potter i love his books
in most cases books are better than the movies however, i cant be bothered to read a lot so its easier for me to watch the movie
books for the most part but for some the movie is better....
i like movies becuz i am lazy but when books are made in to movies the movies are never nearly as good as the books
I like both but i think books are much better than movies. there is only so much an eye can take in at once, but the minds capabilities are endless
i dont read a lot and i prefer see movie but i think books are more complet than movie :^)
reckon books are better. You get to think more, and its more involved
i think books r better, because u can imagine with your mind whats going on with the story, but with a movie it's all in front of u
It seems to me that more people prefer books to movies, with a basic underlying reason for all of them. I am among those people who prefer books.
i like books better, but i love movies, and i hardly ever read books, books are just to time consuming, and movies can be a social activity. movies are fun, but books are better.
moooovies? what are movies? .. lol only kidding .. I go to the movies every now and then ... but I do read books more ... on occasion I catch a comerical here or there .. but I havent sat down to watch tv since I was pregnant and there was nothing better to do .. and before then it had been YEARS ....lets see when I used to watch what was it now *taps her lip* ohh yeah Xfiles ... hmm TV really sucks! no thanks
Anyways this thread is reeeeeeally long and I'll be closing it!
