In my opinion refering to souls and vampyre I believe that vampyres have souls.

However, their soul is unique and when the vampyre dies it is reborn into a new body allowing that next life to be the same as its past life user. Maybe it will be a little stronger or weaker...

what do you people think on this ??

I have to admit I'm torn on this subject there are so many variables and then it's the belief of vampyre's themselves that ahve to be taken into account.
I.e. some ppl believe you don't die when you turn so would your soul be gone??
Other ppl believe the opposite meaning do you lose you soul altogether??

I guess i cant really explain it, but i live in the bible belt of the united states. here, the soul is very much a religious thing, so i dont touch the idea. to me, a personality is different (which is what i think you are saying). sociopaths have personalities, yet most people agree that they have no souls.

whillest i do understand being held down by the thumb of the christian way, as this was forced on me for years, i use the term soul as something somewhat on the same lines as the bible thimpers do however totally different view as well.

I walk a middle path, I'm comfortable with my light and dark side and use them in whatever situation I find myself in. For the most part I work with the light.....I train with the light, some very very 'high' light beings, and those I protect from the darker energies. Because I accept the 'dark' is there it has proved useful in the past.

well their is more than one type of vampire. but i know some vampires dont have souls and some do. some ppl are born a vampire and some ppl arent. its just where you look to find it. just the same as you have a blood vamp, and a soul vamp, and a energy vamp. and so forth.

ChaosBleed I think Sonik cleared up the definition of the word he used but you are right that Dhampir is also another form of 1/2 human 1/2 vampire. If I remember right the term originated from a Gypsy belief in europe concerning male vampires empregnating human females. The resulting child was usually a male and was known as "Dhampir" and believed to have special gifts because of it's mixed birth that allowed it to locate vampires. Which is one reason it was said that many of them became vampire hunters.

As a friend explained it to me:
The soul/life energy of a vampire is immortal, but the body that contains it is mortal. When a vampire dies the energy is reborn into another body. If durning that lifetime they are not awakened to thier vampric side they will pass through that life without becoming a vampire.

I feel that yes, we have a soul..and it does go on to other forms..this is at least my third life, and my soul has been passed on from one lifetime to another. Why can we not have souls? I dont believe in the whole concept that we are damned creatures to have no soul....

Good question. But here is the problem in answering that. Most humans can't think of a life without a soul, because it is the soul that makes humans who they are...human. So as a result when humans write stories about vampires they are often romantic and protray the vampire as having something that resembles a soul (ie. Lestat from Anne Rice, or Selene from Underworld). Yet, a vampire is a creature that feeds off of human souls because they have none themselves, so in order to have a soul they have to take it from a human, otherwise they will be completely dead instead of undead. So no vampires don't have their own soul.

I do agree that vampires have a soul... and I don't believed that just because you're a vampire you are damned.... technically... a vampire is part of the underworld.... but not actually part of the satanic regime... they are a class on their own...

I was not sure what vampirism in any sence was when I joined this site but I think I have come to a good conclusion.
It is a pretatory tool that sets the preditor from the rest of man kind but vampires in any form are still human so I beileve that yes vampires have souls.

I have a firm belief that the vampir in us is in itself a seperate soul. I have no clue how right or wrong I am, but I don't feel as though i'm alone in this body, and no I don't hear voices.
But, If the vampiric soul is free to roam, will it remember us when we die?
Will it simply move on to the next body?

The word and concept of "soul" have different meanings and therefore people will apply the concepts differently. The current English word "soul" most likely comes from the Germanic root 'se (u) la' which also gives us the English word "sea". "Soul" then has conceptual links to a moving fluid medium. The ancient Greeks used the word "psyche", in Latin "anima" all with relation to the same concept. Plato considered the soul to be the "essence" of a person, and broke souls down in three levels. I have to agree with Onikage, I dont think the soul is something you can lose, it's the spirit, which is energy and the strengh of it pertains to your personality if you do dark and evil things then you have a dark soul, why should your spirit be damned for being a Vampyre?

It was mentioned earlier that sociopaths are regarded as soul-less.... Having actually been involved with one, I would have to say that even sociopaths have a soul. It's cold and selfish, but still a soul! All living things have a soul. People, animals, plants... This idea FAR predates Christianity (which limited the soul to humans) Vampirism is passed from one vampire to another...they are turned, not born. As such, assuming for the sake of argument that the legendary vampire is a reality, a vampire who dies and reincarnates, would return as a mortal...the soul marked but the physical detail of vampirism left behind in the mortal case of the previous life. This would imply that the new incarnation would be more prone to seek out, either passively or actively, a way to become vampiric again. Anyhow...that's my two pence.

what do i think of this? this is what i believe. I believe that im one of them so what you just mentioned would have to be true. But the one question of mine that will forever rain is what did i have or do in my past that i dont or havnt done now in my new form. I get dreams every once in awhile that my once lover in the past was reborn to so i search.

I find myself agreeing with OniKage, tyedyegoddess, mistrestsamhain, and SamBarras. I believe in the soul as a energy, and the laws of science state that energy cannot be destroyed. I believe that all have souls, I believe that the soul/energy is transferred from lifetime to lifetime. We may not know of our past lives everytime we enter this plane, but the memories follow our souls. I don't believe this as a religious standpoint though, as I do not believe in religion (being that it is man's version of the higher power).

I once read an amusing book where a very old vampire was threatened by a hunter who knew his origions (which were Hindu by the way) The hunter was protecting one of their friends and asked if he had been a good little Hindu and how much karmic debt he had acrued and if he was ready for his next turn of the wheel. Apparently he wanted to continue in his "unlife" because he was terrified of how his karmic debt would play out in his next life.

I believe that they can have souls, but their really is no answer to that question, only speculation. It doesn't help that many can't agree on whether souls actually exist, how they operate, what they are, where they go after death, and how much of an impact (if any) does ones soul have on their personality or vice versa. Then again... that's what makes these discussions interesting. ;)

Crap, I really wish I could find the site I read this on, but I can't. There was a college study that a group of students did that had to do with something like this. Well, actually they were doing a study on reincarnation and the other students polled brought up a vampire's soul as a reincarnation.

I agree in that Vampires have souls...I thought that a Dhapmir was the offspring of the union of a human and a vampire, no %'s just the result of that union. Someone said here that Christianity limited souls to humans. That is not accurate. That view is only shared by the Western Christians, not those of us of the East. But, there is no offence because very few in West know of us.

Vampyres do possess souls. All livings are interconnected - and no I am not going off in some new age Gaia thing. I believe in a Creator who gave us the greatest gift of all: free will. To have free will one must have a soul. There is no destiny to hinder us, no fate that is sealed. The act of creation is one of love, and the cruellest thing to do to one's creation is to leave no possibilities. That is why John Calvin and Ulrich Zwingli among others are wrong and their followers so very sad.

The Vampyre has the ability to see through this lie of destiny. The Vampyre if anything is acutely AWARE of her/his soul in my opinion. The non vamps we see tend to do the soul thing only when they are at temple, church, or synagogue. The Vampyre does it all the time. We are perhaps the most spiritual of corporeal beings because LIFE is our constant concern and LIFE is the soul, the gift and the divine fire that fuels us.

People that arent commintted to a man made religion. People who believe in our souls meaning something while we are alive, not just when we are dead. Yes, of course we carry our souls around now.. If I said that to the people in my "regular" life, they would have me burned at the stake. Actually, they would like to do that to me now. I beleive that a vampyre back in the day had a soul and when some vampires did die then I do beleive they were reincarnated. So I solely beleive that if people drinks the occassional blood in this centruy it could be a tradition or their way of upbringing. There they grow up and continue the famiuly traditions.

I just had to laugh at a childhood memory which I am sure means nothing but a memory all the same.. Whenever my mother cooked a roast or any kind of beef, she used to put the blood in a cup and save it for me because she knew I always asked for it.. A soul is a beautiful thing. Its what makes you whom you are. Just look around you, at all the people you see, imagine all those souls just drifting around. Its when you see that, that you truly see the beauty in people. In inner beauty. So few can actually look past the exterior of a person into their souls.. That is where we should all be looking... A perusal of British literature will show REPEATED spellings of VAMPYRE. Just as "neighbour" is a British spelling of neighbor, so Vampyre is an archaic spelling, that, like the words thou and thine are still correct spellings.

the question of whether or not vampyres have souls depends firstly on whether or not you believe in vampyres, and secondly on whether you believe there are souls. both are very interesting questions although neither may ever be satisfactorily answered (ie with scientific proof) but i personally believe that there is some sort of soul that exists in humans and i dont see why vampyres would not also have this life force, even if they are dead or "undead". to me the existance of any being is evidence of some entity other than just the physical body, which can be destroyed, and since physics says that energy is never created nor destroyed, it merely changes form, i see that as somewhat of evidence for any creature that exists to have a soul, it may have just changed form. there is clearly something that makes something alive, or at least animated and existing, that something could be summed up simply as energy, which even upon death and the creation of a new creature such as a vampyre, may not be the same type of soul or energy, but it is there none the less.

Depends on where you question is headed. If you are interpreting Anne rices form of vampirism then I suspect that they would have had souls. Vampires are people. They have souls. The soul is the subtle body in all people. The vampire's soul is different, though, than other people, in that they have no connection to the universal energy source, or what have you. That is why they feed on energy. Conceivably, if they did not feed and their energy completely ran out (improbable), then their soul might be destroyed, but who really knows?

I belive that some but not all vampires have souls. Some have the ability to move from life to life by soul (reincarnating) just gaining a different body in a different life time. Kind of like me , my soul is very old and yet i am 15 and alot of people say that i am very well knowledged and wise for my age. But i have memories from other lifetimes...

maybe look in terms of feeding...if a vampyre feeds on you is it just blood or psychic energy or is it the soul thats being absorbed that is actually fueling the vampyre

Vampires-if they where to be real, they would be souls. What I have noticed that most people referr to vampires when talkign about the human body.
