a few months ago i was having a dream that turned into a nightmare, and it was a dream that was in the future, of when people that i loved were in an airport and there was a fire, and as they were going up the esclator their bodies were burning and they were just slipping out of their bodies...It frightened me when I had that, couldn't sleep for a week...

How do you help the dreams that you have for things that will happen in the furture, what can we do it about it now, to try and not prevent really bad nightmares or things like that happening.

I would have to say you can try to protect those you love, but as far as stoping things from happening I feel that we can't change the future just try to make it better is all....

Now it could've been just a nightmare at which I myself would hope it was just that..

Prayers help (to what ever god you choose) herb pillows help to soothe the mind. Dreamcatchers may do some good in stopping the dreams.

As far as chaning the future I dont know if you can. What kind of circumstances would it cause if you did.

some therapists are of the opinion that you can occasionally play an active part in your dreams- for instance if you realize at some point that you are dreaming, simply make an effort to change the way the dream is going-

I always heed a dream of this nature as a warning. I think you would know when the circumstances came into play concerning the dream. It'll be that Deja Vu feeling in your solar plexus. You will sense the familiarity of the situation. I would try to talk my loved ones out of putting themselves in the situation that you had dreams about. Even if you have to tell them it was a dream, the nature of it foretold of death. I would say better safe than sorry!

We are subjected DAY TO DAY , with threats, reported by our media, of such events of varing forms....givin the fact that you love your family and want to protect them in everyway possible ..it is not hard to believe this is incorperated into your dreams as a futuristic event.

It doesn't seem that this dream would realistically play out. I would consider this nothing more than a nightmare. You cannot viably control the future, only perhaps make it better. I wouldn't read into this particular dream too much. You have already lost enough sleep over it already.

I agree, it is probably a nightmare fueled by some deep seated fear or concern that you have. If for some reason it is the future, then there is not much you can do about it other than warn them. However, in my opinion, the final destination movies have it right in that when it's your time to go, you will go. The only thing you can change is how you will go. Understand that is just my opinion and that I believe that it is just a nightmare.

Good point, Foreverseeking. I do believe it is your Fears Manifesting themselves in your Dreams. Maybe you should Talk to someone if you are feeling Worried about the Well Being of your Family. Getting your Feelings out and Examining may help put your mind at Ease.

Future dreams only show you one possibility there are many different things that can affect the outcome like rolling a ball down a hill you see that it is going to go straight down and will end up in a certain spot. You may not see the rock half way down the hill and the ball can hit that and veer of course and go somewhere you never expected that is what a future dream is like it only shows you the one direct path not where it could end up if you do something different

there are many wonderful yet fearful things the future holds for us, we do not get to change that no matter how strong we are. your dream maybe yur subcon. coming up to tell you something that you want to hide, or that you are stressed out. but if this was a dream of things to come, then you can not stop it, for when you do, they will only die another horried way.
if its a nightmare, then a dreamcacher and some sents to light while you sleep. and a circle to protect you is all i can say.

Dreams like this are rarely as prophetic so much as symbolic. When one dreams of disaster, it's important to look at the dream symbols rather than the people/ circumstances. Each symbol in your dream from people you love to an escalator, to the airport itself points at something. Pay special attention to the symbol of fire, as it represents something special... get a dream dictionary. Or better yet, go to Dreamstop online. I wouldn't be as afraid of it actually happening as I would be of what it means.

Are you going through some dramatic changes in life? Transitioning from one phase to another? Afraid of losing something very important to you in light of these changes? Fire is a cleansing symbol, it burns away the old to make way for something newer. Those you love burning in the flames can mean losing something important to you. It could be relationships with these people slipping away or it could be portions of yourself that are wrapped up in these people that are slipping away.

Airports are interesting. In real life they are a major junction between cities. Airports are the transition points between the fastest mode of transportation as well as the most exciting method of travel... airplanes. It sounds to me like you are experiencing some rapid change away from what you may currently hold dear. All change will end up for the better if you learn from it.

Out of curiosity, are you experiencing changes or want to make changes to yourself that others don't approve of? This would be something like becoming goth, choosing a different religion, being open about your sexuality... any of these things that those you love don't approve of? Just a question to think of...

Last thing... the emotion you feel in the dream and after the dream is very significant. If you feel fear, then it's fear that something you are changing / becoming is going to break you away from those you love... or something of that nature. Either way, how you wake up feeling about a dream is as significant as the dream itself.

I agree with Jenova's posts. This seems more likely to be a dream that is "trying to tell you something" vs. a premonition of impending disaster.

Another thing to consider: Do you often have dreams that later manifest themselves in actuality? If you have a history of having true premonitional dreams, then the posibility of this particular dream becoming reality would be greater. If you do not typically have dreams that come into reality, I see no reason why this one would either.

I believe that all dreams mean something. Some are symbolic, some are past lives, some are futuristic, and heck some just come from eating wierd things before bed.....

I would say that this particular dream to me sounds more symbolic then prophetic.... I would suggest a dream dicitionary or if you know a person that does translations perhaps a chat with them. :)

some dreams are nothing more than the mind writing a novel... i have had very lucid crazy dreams in the past that i am sure if you deconstruct there might be some kernels of knowledge about my life or my psyche, but i wouldnt jump to the conclusion of it being a premonition.

The only answer I've found is to accept that things can happen and live each moment loving those around you. I know it sounds corny as heck, and it's one of those easier said than done things. But I've learned that in life nothing is for certain, except death and renewal...

When you truly let go of the worry that something might happen, (in my case because I believe someday something will, so what's the point in worring?) you allow your mind to rest, thus getting rid of things such as nightmares.

I have found that writing my dreams as I remember them helps. There have been many nights where I wake up out of a nightmare or dream for that matter and write what I've experienced in my sleep. It's kind of a way of channeling the energy into a different form. It helps me..good luck.

There are several that have stated that fears will manifest into our dreams... For the most I think that’s right... changes... stress... they all can have affects on our dreams!

And yes we do fear they will come true... if they do as sad as it is there’s not allot we can do... one thing for sure you cant let it affect you to the point that your life starts to be affected!

I have nightmares a lot, and I die in many of them. Quite a few of them seem to happen in real life, but it isn't until later when they happen that I realize that I had dreamt them. I wish I could recognize the dreams as they are dreamt so that I can then take control of them, but every attempt I've made has yielded no such luck.

From my point of view I feel that dreams are dreams and nothing more. They will not come true, unless they by chance do, and that is a very rare occurance. So I don't worry about it, really. This is a very interesing thread. :)

i've read alot of good things being told to you. Prayer is always good, protection spells never hurt. And I agree that this seems to me to be a symbolic dream showing you that you are worrying about something. There are many things you can do, and most of what is said here have been good ideas. I suggest you also meditate before going to sleep. It might help put your mind at ease before sleeping.

I've had many dreams where the one's I hold closest die in some horrific way. More often then not it's jut due to my worries, my anxieties presenting themselves in my subconscious. I knew better then to take such as something that's going to happen in the future. I mean.. if that were true, my best friend would be dead around fifty times over now.

And what you described seems very unlikely of happening. So, don't take your dream to be some premonition of things to come, simply try to figure out what your subconscious is trying to tell you.

Often times in dream interpretations events in a dream don't appear to be as they seem at all. Often times it's just some subconcious warning of an unsettled matter that needs to be settled. Here's a website so you can interpret your dream, maybe that will help you. See if it has any significance to you, and go from there! :)

Since precognition of things to come would violate quite a few of those so-called "laws" of physics, you really shouldn't worry to much.

Dreams coming true can only happen in two ways:

  • a self-fulfilling prophecy, mostly triggered by fear. i.e. bad things happening on Fridays, especially if it's a 13th

  • a deja-vu, where something that happens triggers an incomplete memory, which your brain "re-arranges" to fit the perceived reality, thus creating that deja-vu feeling.

you cant prevent bad dreams, i say if its really scary write them down in a journal. and after you have a bunch take em all and write a scary movie script. im sure it would be a million times better than whats comming out in the movies these days.

You Can't Prevent the Unpredicted and Vice Versa.

If this dream of yours is actually what will happen, then it should be preventable. Otherwise, it is a subtle sort of dream, the likes of which have slim interpretation techniques. Look into Freud's Interpretation of Dreams, if you find the latter more probable...

This may have been just a regular nightmare, easily prevented with dreamcatchers and such. But if you are truly convinced it was a premonition, then what you need to do is hope that you have related dreams so you may find out information to prevent it.

I think that we have these kind of "dreams" to help us deal with what is going to happen. In most cases you can do nothing to change what you see. It;s kind of like a coping tool.

alot of times dreams are hints to the future and a lot of times they are a mush of things u fear, things that happen throughout the day and even bits of movies u watched. i wouldnt worry so much. im sure what u saw in the dream was horrible and the images are engrained in ur mind. but you could jus be afraid of losing those who were in the dream.

i wouldnt worry about it being a premonition. many times its not. when ur dreams are premonitions they are usually more realistic. more present day. at least in my experiance. i wouldnt let this stress u. u will know if it was a premonition when the time comes.

if those family members are headign to the airport soon, jus give em a heads up. but dont lose sleep. not sleeping makes ur mind crazy. ull have a nervous breakdown and then when u do sleep, talk about craZY dreams lol. just try and relax. chalk it up to some crazy food before bed.

I've had some very serious dreams that seemd 'in the future'. Some have come true, others have not. Apocalyptic dreams in particular.

As scary as they are, jot 'em down and keep them for posterity like any other.

Don't let them get to you and interfere with the present.

dreams are kind of funny. bloodlust i agree with, a dream can be detailed and dramatic but the reason might be "he borrowed my pen and forgot to give it back" or "he took the last of my cheese" (punishable by death in some parts of my mind)

Honestly, nothing is set in stone. Even dreams of the future, and predictions of the future. And really when one thinks about it, if one were to really know what the future has in store, by screwing with it or trying to fix it, it could in all reality actually bring you to that particular circumstance. Really now, go see the movie "Premonition" because it touches base with this perfectly. DO NOT MESS WITH THE FUTURE.

True, the future is not set in stone, but what is meant to be will be. Even if you could change events form happening the way your dream/nightmare foresaw them, they would happen in a different stream of events, but inevitably having the same outcome.

I think in most cases we read too much into our dreams and come out with all fancy ideas, when really all a dream is the brain's way to express itself when we are not fully conscious.

Well...I think that's the problem. They are of the future, but figuring out what led up to it and changing it is usually the problem. And even though you may fix or save whoever from your dream...it may cause something else to happen in the future that wasn't supposed and be even worse. And sometimes the dream is just a possibility. Not a definite. And if it's to far into the future, then you might not be able to do anything about it right now. Or change anything right now.

when i was in high school at one point i was taking mass amounts of acid every day. when i stopped my grades went down!! but i was able to sleep, a lot... When i slept i would dream that i was waking up and going to school, and i would carry out the day in real time to the dream. If i woke up it would be the same time in real life as the dream, and sometimes things that happened in the dreams happened in real life.

    2. Just because u dreamed of a death or watever doesnt mean that it will happen that way. Some do some dont....

    3. at times dreams are made by the way u feel, if I am having a nightmare I change wat is going through my mind and the dreams change...

    4. no one can change their future no matter how much warnings we get....we just have to live our lives and enjoy the time we have here on earth...

the future is a wierd thing to predict in my eyes alot of people may have an idea of what they think might happen and might have an idea of what is next to go down in their eyes but the truth is that life and fate will take you and spin the web that your life is to become. the only thing you can control is how it all goes down in front of the whole world out there

so this just happened but i had a long dream about lots of different stuff but one thing is my mom had a purse loaded with cash.

in real life my mom is mostly poor. i was just screwed over from my job and i'm going to see VNV Nation with like $20.

dream + reality= i got a call from my mom asking me how things are about me going to the show and she said that she can wire me some money.

dreams have a weird way of showing little bits of the future but like i said before (or someone else did) dont look at your dream as a whole look at the small details

As far as controlling your dreams. It can be as easy as not watching certain things before bed, and analyzing what is going on in your life and dealing with it. Dreams are look into our own lives. And, what you dream doesn't necessarily play out the same in real life. You should try to write your dreams down and get a good dream analysis book. This way you might understand a little better, what you dreams are trying to tell you.

I have to disagree with what many people seem to think here; you can CHOOSE your future.

It is not written yet as it is a number of choices that you will have to make. Once those are made- then certain events will occur. I think this is what many people consider premonition.

They dream about the choices that will bring the biggest changes in their lives. And some do not make the right choice- they often become bitter and sour with what they think "should have been".

Others are a victim of their surroundings, and view choices as being beyond their abilities. That too is a valid choice.

Simply put our future is unwritten and one simply needs to reflect and do the best they can based off of dreams, premonitions and whatever means you trust to make your choices.

Dreams are your subconcience trying to tell you something, wheter it's the future or the past or something happening far away.

As for changing the future, that's possible.
If i deceide right now to smash my computer, i already changed the future. To make a certain future happen, impossible. There are so many factors deceiding the flow of time.

The future is NO guarantee. You might see it that way, that could happen, but just by the choices you make, it very well could change.

I've had dreams that were so real, Futuristic that I almost cried. But I know that by every decision, every choice I make could change what I saw.

Dreams are funny things. Some of us dream a lot and others don't. Some of us here are gifted where dreams are a vital part. As for predicting the future, it would not be unreasonable to see if you are gifted in this area.
Nightmares about family member are most certainly disturbing. Remember though stress, conflict, and many other things can contribute. Don't be discouraged! We are not guarenteed another day in this life. Be a peace with all you love to the best of your ability everyday.

I dont know if one can really tell the future...I tend to view it as more of a logical thing. Look at a situation, and figure out the ways it will most likey play out...

Yes, I have to fully admit Jenovas post stated my view, too. Use your dreams to your advantage and most of all:
    Know what your aim is.

You shape your future with every breath you take, every step you take, every blink you do and every question you ask.
Would you like to do this without knowing where you head?

Oh, and I might post over to the thread about controlling your dreams...you might find some very interesting informations there, too.

Maybe trying drinking a nice herb tea to relax you before you got to bed.

Let me share with you ..
A week or so ago I was watching a movie by my self it was not scary ,but I was just relaxing before bed.. I thought a fly or Nat landed on my arm so I went to brush it off. Then i felt something on my fingers still crawling. So I flung my hand towards the floor seeing a spider witch I killed it with my shoe now anyone on here that knows me knows I`m a true Phobic. Well after That I had the hebegebes feeling things crawling on for hours after ,smacking at things that wasn`t there. So after I calmed down went to bed and had a horrible night mare about spiders. Crawling all over me..

What you need is a calm state of mind before laying down for bed I wasn`t able to achieve this because of my phobia... Like I said try a nice soothing herb tea..

Altho there is no stopping the future, until it happens, you can help yourself with the dreams. A dream catcher is a good start, hang it directly above your head when you sleep. I have one myself and I swear by them. You can also find a metaphysical store and buy the things you need to make a medicine bag to place under your pillow, everyone is different and the store keeper will be able to tell you what herbs you need that will fix your specific problem.

If you know some thing bad will happen to some one you care make sure you take the time now to tell them how much you care for them. Spend as much time with them as you can. As far as stopping things from happening...you can't. And if the dreams bother you and you want them to go away I would say talk to your doctor about maybe taking some kind of sleep aid that will make you forget the dreams.
