Witchcraft isn't necessarily a religion though KK. There are as many definitions for the word "witch" as their are witches. Witchcraft can be most simply defined as the art of sourcery.. so there really are no religious restrictions on who should/could practice witchcraft.

I can't see any reasons why not. A vampire is just a part of your physical being. Witchcraft is a practice you choose to take on:)

i don't see why not.

though i have been told that i am not welcome by certain wiccans because my energy needs cause others harm. And their beliefs dont allow their believers to cause anyone harm.

as a form of magick, yes.

as a religion if they feel they would benifit from having a religion.

but their potential energy usage is greater then that of a witch.

I am a member of VR and a Wiccan, but I do not consider myself a sang or psy vampire in any sense of the word.

The few objections I did hear from a local Pagan group were that Psy Vamps fed off the energy of others nonconsensually therefore violate the "Harm None" phrase adhered to by wiccans and some other pagans. Some pagans felt that the vampire would use the craft to his or her own advantage to gain donors.

Do I agree? No, because I think there are as many kinds of vamps as there are witches. However, I submit the above arguments as food for thought. Enjoy.

please keep perspective.

Wicca is a religion based on occult philosophies.

Witchcraft is a system of manipulation of elemental currents through the use of intermediaries and mediums.

Just out of curiosity.. who's permission are we asking? Who are we asking whether or not this is right or wrong? Society? Society would have us all locked up for even having this discussion. As far as the Gods are concerned, no matter which, if any, you believe in.. well I suppose they'll sort that all out when you die. So honestly, who exactly determines if a vampire can or cannot practice witchcraft?

Of course a vampire could also be a witch. All someone would need to do is write or even tell a story about it.

I think they could if they wanted too. Its funny because in the last anne rice books she introduces the mayfair witches to the vampires and one of the witches wishes to become a vampire. So we might be getting a book about a vampire witch soon.

I see no reason why someone couldn't be both. Just because something is "taboo" doesn't mean that it isn't/can't be done. Many probably consider drinking blood to be taboo, but that doesn't stop some here from doing just that ;)

And what about the whole subject of a witch doesn't have to be wiccan. yes wicca and witchcraft go hand and hand but one does not have to be wiccan to be a witch ( though some people will argue this point) but back to the subject. Yes a vampire can be a witch if he/she feels that is what they want. Just because one is vamperic does not mean you must forgo any and all religious endeavors.

Yeah sure, I think.

But why should a Vampire practice witchcraft?

Seems to me Vampires are far more owepowered, from witches.

Seems like witches play better role at being Vampires suboordinate?

Seems to me like Vampire is a better developed, betterly gifted.

So this seems logical to me.

So what does a vampire do that would rule out being a Wiccan? I guess if someone writes a novel about it then it will be acceptable. However in the world we live in, there are Sanguine Vampyres in Wiccan Covens. There are no problems with Wiccan ethics in this regard, providing the Vampyre follows the ideals of the Black Veil. Of course who are we to know unless we read it somewhere.

Im my opinnion witches practice a far lesser form of what is in reality Vampire Magic.

I think Vampires are just far superior.

I believe what only might outpower a Real vampire, is some ancient knowledgable superpowerfull red dragon.

But thats as well less probable in my calculations, since Vampires have the unique abillity to respawn, and return again, so they can try many times, with different tactics, until they succeed in their plans.

I think there is nothing more powerfull than the Undead Magical Vampire, wich has the full control over Death Magic, and the Underwolrld.

As far as I know...vampirism isn't a religion its a way of life...so I wouldn't see a problem with them being wiccan...

But then again you do have to kind of take into consideration that most religions including wiccan have certain boundries on hurting people. Things that are right and wrong. So I wouldn't know but I'm thinking depending on your belief system it may and may not be possible or even considered right.

A true witch is by nature, the same as for the vampire. So no, they cannot. Can a dog be the same as a cat? No.

As for practicing witchcraft that people find in those silly beginning books, anyone can do that.

I am a witch.. in many ways I am told. I practice magic.. some of it wicca some not.. ( and I am told my personality often would be another way lol) and I am a vampire. I see no reason it would conflict. My energy needs are not harmful to others as I am careful where and when and the manner I feed so I cause no harm. Being a vampire does not bar you from being anything else in my view. We are people basically just like everyone else so why would it be a problem?

If it were taboo,it might not mean much to a Vamp. They are most likely beyond taboo, pretty much making their own decisions as to what they will or will not do,paying no mind to any consequences.

I would believe one could be both if they really wanted to. It's your choice what you are. Others may shun you but it's your life choice. You have the choice. Now weather to express that choice in the open or keep it to a few friends is another choice.

If you are both and feel you would be shuned I would just keep it to close personal people.

This is a common question here. Where do you see a problem with it? Why can't it be? I can be a Theologian and a writer- what the problem with vampire and witch? Vampirism is not a religion.

Everything about vampires and witches is taboo so why would it matter if someone was both?

I think they can. I also think that if they really wanted to be a witch they could learn it faster than a human being because they already possess power... normally strong power.

About the wiccan thing (even though I don't think all witches are wiccan) that says to harm no other and the idea that the psy vamps basically HAVE to harm another I disagree. Psy vamps can take energy from nature too, so it would not harm another persons aura. (Just I think it would if you were in a big city... then you would HAVE to take from people eventually.)

Old legends tell of vampires who avoid witches, as they are anathema to them. In other words, a true ancestral witch with powers passed from former generations is basically 'protected' (for lack of a better word) from a vampire's 'attack'. Conversely, lore also tells of vampires who attacked witches and were instantly debased and/or destroyed by the power of the witches’ blood.

From my understanding, witches and vampires have a general healthy respect for one another but rarely mingle due to the adverse affects, which might arise. Both these entities posses strong powers which are in diametric opposition to each other.

I am not speaking of 'nouveau' witches or vampires (in other words those who just title themselves as such with no proper understanding or - and this is very important, especially in the case of witches - any true genealogical basis and ancestral occult heritage.

It is all well and good that people are returning to the old religion, but frankly, most of those with the true power of leadership in that arena were obliterated by the mass extermination of suspected (and real) witches from the dictates of the church and their insidious inquisition and the fear that formed and held from the publication of the Malleus Maleficarum onwards. Being a new age witch and reading books does not a witch make. Neither does saying one is a vampire make one so.

Once that idiosyncrasy is deflated, then my answer would be - for those of you out there who would like to think of yourselves as a witch or a vampire but have absolutely nothing to back up that claim, sure - you can be both because your mind is in a delusional state in the first place.

If I offend, apologies, but I am Sith and call them like I see them.

Well I can't see why they can't in all honesty, practicing witchcraft has no taboos about blood drinking, shape shifting or anything else for that matter. If christian priest or follower can practice it, then I can't see why a vampire couldn't as well.

Actually, this subject is kind of confusing to me. I am not sure why a vampire could not practice witchcraft I mean if a vampire drinks the blood of a real witch it could be destroyed but if the vampire isn't driniking the blood of the witch and is just practicing witchcraft it probably wouldn't be destroyed so I think that a vampire could be a witch...wow that's confusing.

It was always my understanding that a vampire that practices magic to be called a warloch. Then again, the information given to me might be incorrect, so I cannot say for sure. Many posters have made some very good points tho. :)

A thought just occured to me, I would have thought it depended on our perception of a witch. Any one can practise magic but it doesn't make them a witch.

I think a vampire can practice what they want to practice however they want to practice it. A witch needs to be redefined for modern times Witches are broom riding devil brides that eat children :oP It isn't a religion its a way of life and living.

The way I view them is separate, while some are natural witch which is an innate ability and vampirism is a condition of the body. Or being a witch is a "practice" like a religion and vampirism is either a lifestyle or a condition of the body. Any combination of those do not negate the other. Therefore I think they ca be both.

So, the answer is yes some vampires use magic.

Magic comes from life and energy and true Vampires are as alive as the rest of us. They may actually be even more alive being that they are more aware of themselves and the world around them. Yes, I believe that Vampires can indeed practice magic of all sorts.

I see no reason that a vampire cannot be a witch. I see many witches as seeking energy though nature, spells and their behavior. Is that really so very different from how vampires seek energy?

Their choice of religion I don't see as playing a part of it.

Well ya know, there's no rule book for this. I don't even understand why the question would be asked. It's a yes rather it's fiction or not. Who's anyone to tell another they can't be? Besides, vampirism is a way of life and not a spiritual path.

Why yes of course one can learn and be a fellow witch to better have an better understand of life and this world. Magick is a part of ones life and can be so if they have the heart and passion for it. Some can pick it up very fast some are just slow starters. no pun of course. There is a bond between a witch and a vampyre they share life and peace of things of this world and cherish it forever.

I don't understand the point of the question. Most people believe you are both both, a witch and a vampire. It's not like one day you wake up thinking 'Hey, I think i'll be a witch/vampire from how on'. If you can be human and christian at the same time, why can't you be a vampire and a witch at the same time?

Hollywood Vamp wise, why would they need to they have all the powers they need.

RT vamp wise why not, being a psi or sang vamp wouldn't preclude being a witch or wiccan as they are beliefs or a way of life is all.
