In a society of actual, live Vampires, would a hiearchal status system such as we have here on VR really work? I'm curious about who thinks what!

i really do think it would work. most covens have a status system as we have here. but the thing that gets to me is how would they enact it.

It would be all a power play just like a government system but I believe much more aggressive since it's based more on survival of the fittest - stergnth and wealth

of course, there would be a hierarchy. there is a hierarchy in any group that develops from something as benign as girl scouts to witchcraft covens. Someone always takes charge, otherwise it would be chaos and nothing would get done.

I think it would work, though possibly very ruthless at times. Look at the military, police and fire departments they all operate in a hierarchical type set up and have for decades. Some of their rules are stiff and some people will be unwilling to fit in with the system but if the order is sent down the line eventually they will follow it or someone will take care of their disobedience.

I also agree with Callista there is some type of system in place nearly everywhere, I think it's human nature to need organization.

it might just work. maybe become a little more complex, and of course, like any other governmental system- it will be bound to have flaws, like liars and cheaters (corruption). but you never really will know untill someone actually tries it in real life.

I dont think it would work becuase most people behave differently offline than they do online

well if the movies were to teach us anything it would be that if they were actually live and here in this city they would have to have a status ranking in order to perserve there way of life and to stay off the radar.but yes i believe it would work

i do think it would thou.. almost every one has thee on special way of climbing the latter even at a shoping mart or a work place.. it does work and will keep working..

I think all societies form heirchies, be it business, sports, government or clubs. The interesting question would be: would real vampires really join into groups. Would they hunt as groups like wolves or lions, work together for the greater good like ants or bees.
Would they be solitary hunters like an hawk or a leopard or cling together like vultures or lions.

Naturally even in solitary, the stronger ones would still aquire more of what they wanted or needed. Mates (do vampires mate?), food, living quarters.

Several good points here. There would be a definate hierachy. And it would be ruthless. It would involve individual power over group control.

Don't know about the day time hours though. O.o

Of course it would work. Though it would be more strict I would think. But not too much.

I believe there would be too , because everything has a chain of command or it'd be chaotic .

Even with a chain of command it can be chaotic, because there are always those who want to disrupt, to assume power, or wrest power from those who have it.

well technicly there is a status system out there, maybe not as good as vr but it exist and we cannot deny its existance. But it would be interesting to have a system like vr...very interesting.

Yes I believe it would work. Everything has a society like what is here on VR thats how things work. You need leaders and followers and everyone comes under 1 head leader. Otherwise there wouldnt be any control and will always be fighting

There is a status system in every culture and surely there would be one for vampires as well, I am sure it would work but as in all such systems there are bound to be problems.

I think it would work and be a good idea to keep order among the coven.

well i believe its working as we speak all because of the people who work for the public use it every day..

if there were true vampires a system like this would work, but since we dont have true vampires it will not work on the ones that say they are vampires

Oh what a bloodthirsty society that would be indeed!!! (pardon the pun) Just think how shady government is now, with vampires it would be most vicious(sp?)!

Why yeah, I am sure such a hierarchy would work, and would be necessery, otherwise, everybody would be in war for domination.

We need some rules for the preservation of one anothers lifes, otherwise, all ends up in ashes.

It could work, only a set of rules should be added.
However as to member blocking and things like those, some kind of police would be needed, because here it's easy to click a button and to block, but in reality it would be more complex.
Also it would be a fight for power, if his system would be brought over into the reality. Alliances and oppositions would be made. Who knows how would it develop further.

Yes, I believe Vampires would have a hierarchal system if they existed as deemed in pop culture. All known organisms have an identified hierarchal system and in some modern theories this includes planets. Even the elements have a hierarchal system. However I don’t think said system would be like one presented here. It’d most likely mirror the culture that surrounded the vampires with the exception that even the lowest level of vampires would consider themselves or function higher than regular humanity.

I think they would have such a system but it would just be as political as our government.

I belong to a group offline, and in order to preserve a certain type of order, we actually appointed several leaders to oversee the happenings. It worked rather well as per in order for anything to take place it is based on a majority vote. Also you have to have rules and if they are broken justice has to be swift. In time your group is able to sift out the trouble makers and find the honorable members. It takes months but eventionally if you stick to it a fantastic group comes out of it.

idk i think its a trial and error thing so yeah i would belive so but if you believe then it may happen

Most covens in real life have some sort of leadership and different postions within the coven or house.Without some sort of direction, it simply stagnates and is chaotic.

Not only do I think it would work, I think it would be a necessity. Any collective group of individuals without some sort of structural backbone is bound to dissolve into anarchy. How strict the structure would be is a bit harder to pin point in my opinion.

I think it would work alright. Of course you always have a few rebels....but coven leaders could easily handle anything. The respect system we have here works really well.

I go for the chaos and anarchy theory. I think that if vampires did exist they would be so screwed up in the head that they would be more like animals than humans. They would hunt and live on instinct and not logic. I think it might be a territorial world but I doubt if there would be any hierarchy.

It would more than likely be something like out of Underworld. And more than likely you would have your typical back-stabbers, the schemers, the ambitious, the nobility, the ambassadors, the advisers, etc. That is everywhere, in a hierarchy, no matter where you go.

If you look at goverments all across the world they all have huge power stuggles and there own set of problems .

I think having a hierarchy seems to be the natural order of things no matter where you go. From the largest to smallest groups, there always seems to be some sort of pecking order in place.

from experance in a calm vampire clan there are 5 royle familys and the shear the power by tranfering it ever 20 year to keep one person from ruleing forever and blood line dose not make you the next in line. you can be adopted in to one and the last king or queen choose who in there family will take it up next

I think it would be just like any other society.. There would be a structured authority, there would have to be to keep order.

A society is a grouping of individuals which is characterized by common interests and may have distinctive culture and institutions.

When you consider the type of personality that a vampire is, then it would stand to reason that a hierarchical structure would be beneficial. However, if a vampire breed is from a gang-land type of personality (be it street-gang or mafia or biker, etc), then greed and power become the driving force and would eventually cause chaos.

So I think it is really based upon the lifestyle of the specific vampire group if it will work or fail.

I would imagine any OLDER vampire house would be run like VR is, while street gangs would not fair as well.

I think it could potentially work, just with every other system we have, there would be laws and other major components. Whether it would be utterly chaotic or not, is an entirely different story...

in a lot of the older myths etc, vampires are solitary creatures, existing as couples at the most.
but in the modern world, a heirarchy seems the best and most sensible way of keeping their existence secret and the species safe.

I believe it might work. I mean our worlds societys are ran in similar ways, so i could see it being a possible factor.

in every group or society, the leadership is necessary... even more if we´re talking about a society of modern vampires who will have the freedom to live in the open...

You must have some kind of order. A alpha male/female must lead or total destruction would rein. Look at human race and animal world have their pecking order.

As with any hierarchal society there would have to be rules that bound the Coven members actions and a governing body to ensure that the rules were followedl If that was in place it would work.

Probably not other wise there would of been one already thats not online.

If vampires were real I think it would probably be a political system that was extremely machiavellian in nature. The hierarchy would run most powerful at the top, least at the bottom because the most powerful would have the strength to enforce their will.

But because of their longevity there would be a lot of back stabbing and what could essentially be classed as regicide, because no one wants to remain where they are for eternity unless it's at the top.

I think that there would be an heirarchial order amongst vampires...similiar to what we have here on VR...

with as many vamps as there are there need to be some system and i think that this would work the best

I don't see how a kiss/coven (whatever you want to call it) could work in a democratic society. there has to be a power structure as there has been for thousands of years and you rise to the top in a number of different ways. Someone has to be in ultimate charge for the good of the rest

i think it would work very well as if we see are publics eye like the police fire and even the mail .. it would work just kinda like that..

Yes. I think it would be necessary. We can't have a bunch of rogue vampires out hunting the food to extinction. It would happen quick with too many. Plus I imagine the heirarchy of vampires ( as we've seen in modern movies and books )to be part of the romantic attraction to them.

The system for vampires already exists and has through out time. No system is perfect and there is always differences when it comes to a hierarchy. Each community has different rules.

I think it is the same as in any society , one must know their place....rising or falling in rank. Vampires would be no different.

I think it would work but i also think that it would depend which group a person were a part of if they were happy or not.

In any given society, it is inevitable that at some point a hiearchy would emerge. Human nature dictates that an authoritarian construct is nescessary for survival.

i wouldn't think there's order here necessarily, as this site is a business run off the concept of making a social site for us goth kiddos and whatnot...just "rules" here to follow or cancer eats your 22.95/year. but yes, vampire houses have rules, as do witches' covens and such, with someone in charge.

Organization would be a necessity if they planned to survive otherwise it would be a constant fight with any other vampire stumbled across.

Even in nature it exists look at a wolf pack right down to an ant colony they all have their alpha's and beta's just as humans do. I think even among vampires some would lead and others follow.

Just imagine what they might charge for a PM though...

it would surely work; rank is etsablished even within animal gruops, so why not within any gruop? for all kinds of beings, there will always be stronger ones and the less strong, older and wiser ones and the young and impulsive...:)
