I watched an interesting documentary the other night about the mind and near death experiance...
While i could talk all night about how interesting it was, i'll just explain and ask this simply...
-There was a case where a pregnant woman with an 18 month old baby and her husband at sea died whilst giving birth...But returning some minutes later.
Later, after the birthing...etc... She reports that while she was 'dead' She felt like she was induced with Morphine and she didn't feel like she had a care in the world. But while she was floating into the 'white light' A thought came to her.
Her children. Her husband at sea. Their well being. And what would happen to them if i let myself go?
She reports forcing herself against the body's own Morphine like drug and also forcing herself back into her body, after which her heart began circulating blood once more.
(The lady also recalled a conversation between the doctors and nurses which no one other than them could hear. Saying, she was positioned abover the doctor's shoulders, looking down at her covered body)
My Question to you-
Do you think, that in this life that you are in now, if you found something/someone you loved..or had reason to stay here, do you think you yourself would be able to overcome this natural Morphin-like state and return to yourself?
...Or do you simply not believe?
well i do think you can overcome as long as you have the will power to do so other wise you will just be sucked into the light
Yeah.
One of the doctor/scientists said that the 'white light' is created when all the working bits of your eyes concentrate on the centre because they're begining to fail...And when you're concentrating on this point, it just feels like you're going forward.
Ah, well. I'd gladly stay up all night and discuss this everytime someone posts...But, School tomorrow. Woo, test. Joy.
Night.
i also think it depends on the way you die because i do not think that you have an opportunity to overcome this natural Morphin-like state when you got shot or burnt etc.
Hahah, yeah...I forgot to write that...
Well, i mean in situations like this...Or something like this...
You know. USE YOUR SENSES!
I know that I was classed as dead twice after being assaulted, but came back again....All I can say on the matter, is I know it sounds lame but I can honestly say that both times my grandad appeared to me and told me it was not my time and i had to return...
Normaly I would be like yeah right as if, you was dreaming whilst unconcious..However this is very real to me...Maybe it was my inner conscious telling me to fight, we learn abotu these self preservation mechanisms in the army.
All i can say it felt very real to me at the time...I cant really say that I dead or not, all I can say is the hospital told me I had past on once in the ambulance and once in the hospital
I believe if you are capable you can with enough will power over come death. I guess it's basically what you belive you have to live for.
Yes, I think if you believe in somthing enough, you can accomplish the impossible. That's where the term mind over matter came from. That's what having faith in something is all about. Some just have more willpower than others.
I think that in some cases it could be and in other cases it cant. If it is your time to die,you die and if it isn't your time to die you can live again.
If my family still needed me, I would return to my body, hopefully!
As I have said before, if immortality is a matter of will, I will be immortal. I really hope so.
well between the time thehigh voltage sign was disregarded and the paddles were applied I felt like I was dreaming....
and ya the white light seemed to me to be tunnel visionas it expanded as I became contious
: smiles: Yes I do belive that I would be returning for those that I loved.. I am not ready to leave this world while a few of them are still in it and depending on me to help them along their chosen paths.
love true love hold power that no witch or mistic can comprhend. it give use powers we never would have had other wise
Depending on the situation of the point of death - I would want to return to help those I care about and fight like hell to return to do so.
I believe love is a very strong thing yet you yourself is yet stronger and you could over come anything if your will is to be that way. You can make anything happen if you want it badly enough. that is what i believe...
This is just one of a infinite amount of realities that most interact in...The time that is spend in each one has a specific purpose...When One almost leaves and comes back, it is part of the Grand Design of balance, energy, and cause and affect...
Nietzsche said that our will is the only true power.
He said that if we will our lives into a certain direction then it will be so.
I tend to agree.
I believe like others, it you power over life that keeps you there.
I don't know what to believe 100%, but I think that it would entirely depend on the type of person.
More pleasure-oriented, impulsive people would probably succumb.
While more logical people would give thought to what they were leaving behind.
Personally, an unfortunately, I think I'm more the former.
Thats a tough question. Personally, if it were possible..and I could do it, if one could have such a powerful force of will...hell yes I would do it for a loved one.....I'd come back for them, I wouldn't leave them behind.
I believe that people see the other side to help them realize that there is something more to just this. Even though the brain may see a bright light and there is no pain, some have seen people of their past. That could be a memory, but my dad has had expeirences with freinds or relatives that have past. They have told them things pertent to what he was worried about at the time. I do believe as well that if someone gives up when they are sick, the sickness is more likely to prevail.
Depends on why that one person has gone. I think that love can over come anything, and if you believe in it it just might be able to happen.
When I crossed over, I never saw a light or a tunnel, just an angel talking with me, and what made me come back was my lil boy..
I knew I had to be there for him, my bond with him (he is 6 now, but 6 months back then) was and is so strong, he is the one that keeps me here now..I had to fight for him and I did..I always will..
death is about when the soul ceases to self identify with the body, and so the animation of the body ceases to be, the life force , the functioning of the organs and so on cease to be
if for some reason, a memory like you said, an emotion or thought , essentially a strong force causes the soul, or spirit or life force to reidentify itself with the body it can animate it again, as it again thinks feels and identifies itself as body and material
sometimes it is about unfinished business
or another task that the soul has been assigned
usually people who have had near death experiences come out with a very changed outlook towards life, a very specific set of goals and intentions, like a sureness about things, and very little doubt and uncertainty
some change their lifestyles, beliefs, eating habits and so on
like it is a new life
some experience a sense of borrowed time, and a sense of specific duty and purpose
there are even theories about the body being reinhabited or coinhabited by another being
the film flatliners is very interesting, although it is typical of hollywood, there are some interesting things
I beleive that the drug made her allucinate and that she imagin being beside the doctor, her brain gave her that information, she was in a state of transe between deaht and life, its scientificly proven that it can happen, no light or tunel, just her brain working until she wakes up again.
if its your time to go its your time to go. no matter how strong your love is forsomething, you cant fight fate
I think the human spirit and body are a very powerful thing and that if someone has the will to overcome something, then they will be able to do so if they try hard enough. And Dtals.... open your mind a bit.. this is the 3rd time I've seen you say just bluntly no without any reason behind it.
I don't think it has to be about love or anything like that. A medic told us that one of our team members was dead once after a mortar round fell about ten feet from him, but he was back on his feet about three minuites later. I asked him about it a few days afterwards, and he just said he "didn't feel like dying at the time, it would have ruined my good day."
Then, of course, there's always the Hagakure's show of will that "If a samurai's head is suddenly cut off, he should still be able to perform one last act with certainty. If one becomes like a vengeful ghost, there is no action his body cannot take, when his head is removed."
It would depend on, really, who was calling me to the afterlife.
Would I go if it was the One? Perhaps I would.
However, I've yet to fidn the one I'm meant to be with (including the one I'm with now), so who's to say if I'd stay or go on.
I believe it is completely possible if you do have enough will power, and a reason for returning. People have survived many things that should have killed them, including being shot or hit by a car.
Well it depends but i do believe in a way...we can never really know can we...just like Spontaneous Human Combustion. But I hope that if I get a companion that if my life is taken I'd at least try if i could
well i think that it is possible to overcome that. If your will is strong enough and you do have a care in the world..which you know you have things left to do in life..then im sure it is possible.
Hehe I daresay that's true b'y (pardon my speech, I'm Newfie) but hmmm A lot of people tell me that they have lots to live for. I do go through depression but If I had to choose to come back it would have to be for my friends
Most would say it was for true love they would come back for, or that its the only true meaning of life. For those that find that twin flame it could happen that way but, most look lifetimes for the second part of themselves but everyone does have one. For the woman in the documentary obviously she had found hers in her husband that made it that much easier for her to push the morphine feeling away and come back to the one she loved.
I think if you truly love someone, then anything is possible.
I think if you are extremely stong willed...that you can defeat any thing that came into the path of you and what you want...like death for example...I believe if you want to live bad enough, that you can overcome it.
I think the body can over-come anything if really wanted to.
As i have always said, where theres a will theres a way. Up until recently i really didnt wanna be alive either, but i was willing to stay alive for those that i knew cared about me. I am still here today because of my willingness not to hurt those that i care about
well i just think the old saying says it best love conquers all..
Yes the Human will is very strong if you were dying i belive you can bring your self back . There has been so many cases where people have died , and they decribed many things like a white light , calming music , or just a comforting feeling
You can also will your self to die.
I'd like to believe that my will would be strong and that simply to spite the powers that be, I could shake off the hypnotic song of death and fight my way back into my body. I'd also like to think that before taking up corporeal residence once more, that I might be able to grab some knowledge or perhaps even a supernatural being or two and force those shadowing creatures into the body with me...who knows what kind of lessons are to be learned with that kind or soul room-mate.
I've often thought that if one could force a union between some ethereal being and yourself...if you could be the dominate force and overpower the other, that there would be some reward for that kind of strength of will. The chances would be just as likely of course that one might lose and thereby give host of your body to something else entirely.
These days, my thoughts on the supernatural and the mysteries it may or may not have to give up have been re-awakened by my interactions here and in books I've taken to reading. There was a period of years where the daily grind had ripped my curiosity from me. I'd like to think it's coming back with a vengeance.
Interesting topics like these are the life blood of curiosity. Thanks for the drink ;)
I do believe its possible. If some people can do astral projection, or contact the dead then anything is possible. All you have to do is believe in it enough and it will be true.
I would most definately (fight the morphine like state) as my loved ones and family are the most cherished things I have. However if it was my time to go then I would go.
the brain does funny things when its got not oxygen going to it. near death experiences are freak-outs of the brain. kinda like hallucinations.
I think it is possible but Your mind must be very strong and family is the most important thing in life.
I think that iF I had the opportunity I think I would. But then again there is a reason for everything. So why change fate.
You can not cheat death no matter what happens. Death will come for you.
i rekon its possible, if i had a loved one still here i would stay and protect them til they passed then id b fine 2 go.... but thast really sweet of her.... and amazing
I think it would be possible...unless the body was ravaged by disease or injury.
i still dont think strong will can save you at any time if it is your time it is your time
yes..i belive in the mind over mater thing..to an extent...like people, with termilan diseases, who've only ben given months to live, live long enuft t see the supper bowl and stuff like that
im not sure because sometimes people really want to die and cant. Happens with the elderly sometimes
true people survive longer when they want to see something for the last time
I totally believe that. I believe that someone or something important to you doesn't have to be the reason for it though. If you had the will to simply really want to live you could, especially if it was not your time. This brings me to another interesting point... I also believe that if you have not yet gained enough wisdom, or had your share of expiriences, you can carry your life on, if you had the will.
I personally feel it is out of our hands. When its really your time, than thats it. If we were able to fight death, dont you think alot more people would still be here?
V Malice- so you believe to an extent that those without the knowledge to move on but the will to learn, stay longer in an attempt to finish. That would be a very comforting thought. I think you'd have to combine the will to live with the will to learn though as just any ignorant fool who wants life wouldn't stick around longer.
Daygona- How does one corelate a near death experience with the belief that we all die when it's our time? What I mean to say is...if it's always our time when we die, how do you feel about those who have claimed that they were sent back...are their mistakes occuring somewhere in the schedule only to be worked out by dead relatives and a higher power?
Well, I for one I don`t want to die until I`ve fulfilled my destiny...and now that I found it, I inted to stay here as long as it needs to make all things right...after my destiny is fulfilled, I will retreat myself from this life knowing that I made everybody happy...
I believe you can if the motivation is strong enough.
I don't think I currently have a strong motivation in my life...
I do know I stopped breathing and had complications during surgery. There was no white light... etc. So it seems there might be some connection between consciousness (SP?) and the white light phenomenon.
Simonis
I belive one can over come in some cases and not others, No matter how strong your will there is almost always another side that might know that death would be the best and override everything else.
Felix - I just feel that when it's your time, it's your time. There is no coming back. There might be some other plane or realm or existance or something to move on to, but as far as coming back no, I dont believe in that. If someone claims to have near death experience than I dont believe it was there time. They may have had an experience, but it doesnt mean they were near death.( I dont think once death has you it lets you go.) It could be just that an experience. Something to let them know there is something else out there. I'm not real sure if this is making sence to you. It's kind of hard to explain a feeling. :)
i do bealive if it is possiable and i had a reson to continue on in this hell that i would be able to overcome that state
It is when u give up on life that life gives up on u. If u grow old and die, its because you have chose to. Yes life is not eternal, however u can choose to be active and life ur life to its fullest or u can lay down and give up ur own life
my mother loves to tell me about how when she almost died she saw a light and felt God's presence and all that ... then thought of me and my brother and came back to the operating table... but i think that's just her trying to make us feel guilty again. :-)
If it was for some one you love anything could be possable
yes true will power can take u out of ne prob in life.i m saying this with my personal exp.i was out of sorts whn something bad happened in my life few months back n coz of my frnds here on n on net n they all let me realise my will power to take on all pains n move forward.yes i am down but certainly not out.i m strong now to deal with ne adversities in my life.
I believe that if you love someone enough you can force yourself to stay here in this world.
almost oded on morphiene, not sure if its that great of a thing, but i think a will to live brought me back
I've died 3 times now and came back so well I guess.... I dont have much of a memory for what happened then the euphoric state which she found herself is interesting perhaps an endorphin release at time of death....
You should read up on astral travel, possibly try it once, u get this same sensation of floating and not having a care in the world the further ur astral body gets from ur physical body the less u care about returning unless ur will is strong enough... During this state of astral travel supposedly there is no way to sever the link or do major "unreparable harm to ur physical body" most people who are injured severely report the state of floating or hovering above their body, even some coma patients report similar experiences, which have been documented as astral travel. It could be the same experience, once u die, your spirit or ur astral body leaves the physical maybe there is a tie there that cannot be broken unless u willing give it up. I am not stating that u cant die if u dont want to but maybe the experience she had is what is experienced during astral travel.
I think if you have something that is that important to you, then you will fight tooth and nail and with all your might to get back and stay....
I do believe that will = life.... or at least I believe on it since my english teacher told me that he was 45 and his parent where still alive... his mom with 75 and his dad with almost 80!..... I was amazed with this... and that's not the best part.... his dad walk 3 hours and his mom do cicling in 2 miles.... every day... so I do believe that if you keep your will to live... you will get a long lasting life..... if we don't die in a nuclear war before.... jejejeje
