No I don't mean that there is an old website called VR, what I mean is the old and new things that VR features.

Ex: The old VR way of rating was that you have to have a unique comment. You could not post the same comment twice. Quite a pain in the @$$.

Let's see how many examples people can come up with....


For those who have never had an account before this one and are low level this is a crash course on VR 101.

In the old VR you had to plays games to earn favors for the house or covens ..The new Vr is different you can still play the games but you dont get favor for them

the old vr most threads had order of relevency and populrity, whereas now there are sticky threads that are usually (in the current sandbox's case) very unpopular and regarding irrelevence.

HHW - Actually, you don't get favor from the games anymore. Now you get it from viewing pages and spending time on VR.

Old VR had no societies.
New VR does.

New VR has become a database, forum site, profile site, and much more.

so ppl r getting the hint that Cancer spends a lot of time updating the site... anything else that is a good comparison

New Vr..there are some many it`s takes a while to count them ..

since they have taken away the game of 555's ,vr has lost its glamour a bit i guess.

By taking favor winning games off it kind of took away the competitive part of VR. Now its kind of mellow.

unless you get hitched up with the drama kings and queens it ain't mellow LOL

I miss the games for favor on old VR

myspace has the apps like own a friend and friend factory... but they dont compare to 5x5x5

old vr had less sires so it used to be a big thing to make sire... not so much now.


old vr had the chat box window... kinda miss that.


on the other hand i love some of the new stuff, like journal commenting etc.

I think the old VR is better. the new VR, people aren't really here to share their feelings on mythology

To those making a comment about the increase of covens and sires: This is a community and, as any good community does, it is growing. The reason that there are so many sires is because there are so many people who have been continuously faithful to this community.

Cherry, unfortunately VR has taken on a few people who aren't interested in mainging it for what it is and are only intrested in it the same way they are with myspace. That's not necessarily a bad thing even though it does get a little annoying, the interest of such people will come and go but with it they will also help to bring in people who are genuinely interested. Just another natural part of a community.

old vr you could select unrated profiles

Maybe that they do now allow comments on journals is a reason why I have chosen not to start one. I viewed the journal as a place to put your own private ideas, feelings, without it being commented or judged by others, if they read it fine, but not to leave comments behind.

I only know the new VR too and love it, but I was a Unclean Spirit at 70% for a while, then went up to Specter, then just droped down to Fiend at 40%. What Happened, can someone please tell me?

Yes, VR has gone through a lot of changes and many new things are under development. This June will be our 4 year anniversary.

I love VR the way it is now. I do miss 5's, but I was never any good at it. I haven't even played any of the games since I got back on here.

The society button on the right hand side is mighty handy since there are so many now. That was put in place within the last year.

Sticky and Moderated threads have been added.

Profile Backups is a nifty feature as well.

And lets not forget coven and other chats.

i like a lot of the new things and have been on the sight only about 6 months so i am learning how it used to be from this post. I do think that there should be more interesting ways to get favors for your covens then pages viewed and things rated. I am only a firebrand and I already have the whole web sight rated. I am just lacking time even though I am on the sight 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I would like to see the games come back. I like games and it lets out some of us fill the need to strut our stuff.

I'm liking the changes with the forum.. a little hard to get used to the loss in level but I can get back up there again =) WTG Cancer.. this is going to be a nice change

I have only been on VR for 8 months but I love it here. I have heard some people say that they miss the old VR but all I can see is positive changes, I love all the new options and it just keeps getting better every day. I especially am liking the new Society Forum thread changes that occurred today as navigating is so much easier.

As a forum master I'm getting to grips with the new forum system...I can't say I really understand the sticky tread part of the new system...

As for knowing the old VR I can't say I do...the new favour system I quite like...

Sweetblooded, games used to be for favor and it was a lot of fun. However, people kept cheating in various ways and it really wasn't fair in that aspect. I hope this sheds some light on the situation.

Personally I do not see it as Old vs New, I see it as progress. Cancer busts his arse upgrading the site, not nessessarilly killing off an old site to make a new on, sites change with time.

I actually love the new vr more.

Cause now you can't cheat to get favors you have to work for them

Also someone mention the old vr you had to be level 6 for the chatbox, no offence but it has always been level 7 to be in the chatbox.

I love the chat room, did enjoy the chat window, it was easier to do stuff on the site

Playing games now is not a burden cause technicly they still make you earn favor in the sense of: time spent and pages view: so 25 words failed or success= 1 favor. +15 minutes = 1 favor.

So now you can earn favors doing nornal stuff without having to go and stay in a game till you earn it.

But you are rewarded by working and being active on the site. It is a nice way to say : thank you for spending time here and hope you enjoy your stay.

It is a place where everything evolves and blossom. It is a place where good and bad come out of people, but also a site where links are made and things are buit into a greater perpus for the better Gothic, paranormal and vampire community.

old vr had alot more glitches than new vr

New VR has more "downtime" than the old VR, but I'm fairly certain that its for a good cause and only temporary.

I'm new, so I don't know what it was like before...I do intend on avoiding any drama like it's the plague, though.

Actually, on OLD old VR, you could post the same comment multiple times. I used to do it all the time. Then I left the site for a bit, and when I came back, it was unique comments only. Lol. It was frustrating, but at the same time, it was a way for you to actually have to READ the person's page.

Overall, though, I like the way new VR is. :)

I miss 5's, and this new system for the forum is pretty neat as a forum master though I will have to get used to it. lol

in the almost 3 years I have been here alot has changed. many things have been mentioned but because this kept up with me all the time I'm gonna say....

Old VR had A LOT of loop holes in HTML to let you do what ever you wanted to whether you were premium or not. Such as..... play music have cool backgrounds and you could even use Premium member codes in the Covens or houses pages........Now it's extremely difficult to deal with the restrictions which is good and bad...... It gives a good reason to get premium but kinda makes you HAVE to in a way.

i enjoyed getting favorsss for the gamesss but unfortunates cheaterssss ruined that for the honest people....

Although I "grew up" with the old VR the new changes that have been made has allowed things to be both easier and more secure. All the changes have been made for a reason and I am sure that over time they'll "grow" on us :)

Hell yea, man, the new VR rox me exactly as the old VR did, there is no difference at that.

My space, or vampirefreaks, or some such cumtwat web communities are simply just not even till the VR`s toes.

The boredom there, the sloppiness of the graphic design, the unbelievable unrealistic expectations of a member to follow rulez!

All these other pages are experience like a watery wine, an that just wont do.

Old VR, or the new VR, it is always in our hearts.

In the old VR, you could find paradigm altering posts in the forums. Now, those who have the most to teach largely keep quiet due to the cacaphony of inane and banal topics that most feel have already been spoken on. Unfortunately there is no record of these topics; although you will here them referenced on occasion.

I liked the way VR were when I was here with my first profile, there were lots of nice people and great fun most of the time.

I like the new VR as well, and the site updates are amazing, much more userfriendly and with more options. This improved VR is running more smoothly than it did at first, which is a blessing as well.

I agree with SoulShroude. I don't really see it as old vs. new. Sites are constantly changing and VR, well more and more is added all the time to better the site and make it more fun for us all. Things are alot different from when I joined and I love all the changes.

I love all the updates so far. The coding is the only one that I really see people have issues with. Which I understand... takes a while to learn it then when you think you have it, it changes. LOL but that's life.

Personally have only been here for almost 8 months myself. So am not familiar with the old. I do enjoy this form of VR.. and have watched many changes during my time here. I do like the journal comments as it allows me the chance to see others opinions or thoughts. The only thing that makes me a little hesitant at times are all the children that live in a world of fantasy or are attempting to be something they arnt. (no offense) However I do understand that it a journey of life in which to find ones true self. Cant really say too much on that as we were all there at one point or another ourselves. Keep up the good work Cancer and thank you for all the hard work that you put into this wonderful little community.

I only now Vr as it is now but I like what Frenzy was saying with the games earning favours but its like any thing old that changes the are advantages and disadvantages

The only thing I am not real crazy about is the new coding stipulations ... I never saw or played 5's but I had looked at some of the games (not for a while though) ... I like some of the old and some of the new ...

Too many people cheated on 5x5x5 so it was pulled and rightly so. There are those that just ruin things for others. Improvements are always being done and changes are inevitable with this site growing as fast as it is, which is a good thing.

well new to the site I love the VR just how it is and with every web site you always have down time .... gotta always do updates and changes to improve :) lovin it....

I loved the old VR just as I do the new VR. I miss the Favor earning with the games but understand why it's gone and the fault belongs to members that cheated not the admin, so that's that.

With growth comes change and I'm learning to enjoy the new aspects of the site. I'd hate to see the site if Cancer didn't change and update things sometimes.

there are some things i miss about the old and some things i love about the new i just wish it had less down time

The cheats were the ones that ruined 5's but if brought back where we play against the computer and not against other members there would be no more cheating.

I like the new layout for the society forums it makes it easier to find what u are looking for

I enjoy the many changes that have been made to VR in the last year.. I like that Cancer has gone with the flow..seeing what works and what doesn't work... I like the new way of getting favors because you have to be on line in order to gain favors for your coven.. but I do admit I do not miss playing hangman until the wee hours of the morning. to gain favors. or waiting for someone to come on to play 5s.. and that Boggle game well I could never get good enough to beat the house.. I never tried the old VR but I do like the new one.

i haven't been around VR that long but from what i've heard there are some new features that are very good.

i likke the old one better for the games for foavor

I just recently joined back up again, after a break for about 2 years lol and I *loved* 5's... Mostly sucked at it but it kept me amused for many hours *hehe*

I also liked the fact that you could only have a personal message to every page (because then you could tell who had Premuim Membership) :P

I miss Boggle and earning favor through games. I would stay on VR longer and talk to people and play.

I like now that the site is growing with new communities and a larger VR database.

I also like how Cancer created a test to be an Acolyte. You used to get some strange answers and comments if you asked for help. Now you have to prove you know what you talking about.

The old VR of soon to be 4 didn't even have chat box! but the Site is dynamic and progressive. Progression and business growth will always attract controversary and encourage discussion, but it is a fine thing the Site retains a foundling membership from the day dot :)

I don't see it as 'old' or 'new', just a business that has grown and changed with the times.

Of those changes I miss the Matrix the most. I was very addicted to that game.

With the changing came more attention to journals. I am really enjoying the fact that the journals are being used more and more.

in the old vr reaching certain levels were harder therefor meant more, there are some new things that i love and resent

I absolutely hate change. So I have found it hard to adjust to the changes. Overall I'm sure the changes are wonderful & will be for the better of vampirerave as a whole. I miss the games. I don't care much for journal comments. You don't have the freedom to speak your mind without opinions flying all over the place. I'm trying to adjust to the changes & with time I'm sure that I wil. Things do seem more secure now.

I tend to roll with the changes and like most of them. I actually love journal commenting as some of the funnest conversations can be started over a good journal entry.

For those who don't want them perhaps a way to personally disable journal commenting could be devised, like premimum members can adjust personal settings?

Changes is hard for me to get use to but in time I will get used to it! I am sure it is all for the better! I like some of the new changes and some I don't but it's all about adjusting I suppose!

I haven't been on VR long enough to play games for favor, but I current method of gaining favor works well on many levels. You can improve your status, gain favor, read about others and view items available for sale.

A handy item would be a profile link in the portfolios and especially the journals. Sometimes as you're reading through journals you want to see more about the person and want to read their profile

I've been here a few years now & the the VR beats the old one hands down.

I was never on the old VR so I wouldnt know the difference but I like the site the way it is now and from reading what has been posted it would seem a bit of both might make the people here a little happier.

Old VR [when I first joined] had 16 Sires.

New VR has over 160.

vr just grows like anyone here. Happy thing is vr grows for the best...and it is great awsomely wonderful.

Societies are a change to VR. ;]

I have been on here for more than 3 years so I saw a lot of changes.

Let me see, since I joined, the features that got added were: the PM, the VR Manual, the vampbox, Societies, instead of the sandbox section it was a section for sites, the comic strip, the Forum had changes, new features added to the PM like the stamp, and many other things. Oh and if I remember well, there wasn't a Sire yet when I joined, or there was one, I don't remember. Like MBK said it was database at first, so everything is a change.

Oh well site updates can be seen on the News section, they get added there everytime there is an update.

To me VR gets more interesting more time passes :)

What I miss mostly is some of the old people who haven't been on here anymore, but in the meantime I met other interesting people too so it's still enjoyable :)

True true, there have been a lot of changes over the past few years, I've been here for a bit over three now. I remember the societies coming into play, that changed a lot.

In all honesty, I've never seen a single change in VR that I haven't liked. I may not have first understood it, but Cancer is an amazing person when it comes to ideas and what to add to this little society. I've learned to just trust him and give something time if I don't get the point of it, then it will dawn on me, little lightbulb goes off over my head and TADA! I get it heh.

Of course, one thing that will never change here is the amount of people who bitch and complain. Good god guys, I find it amazing that some even bother to stay here if they're so against it.

I support the big C and the Admins. Change is good.

Oh yes even I didn't get some of the things at first but it happens.

As for people complaining, it is expectable, changes don't always get liked.

But many times people get used to the change added other times not, but there must be a lot of good things on the site if people increase everyday and old members remain :D

Since I joined Vampire Rave over two years ago, quite a bit has changed. Back then there were no Covens and even the houses were fairly new (from what I've learned). The games were used for earning favor, which was nice, but needed to be changed because of the cheating. But this also made it easier for members who didn't like the games, to earn favor. A lot has chaanged in the forum, as for the quality of the threads (most of them) and the posts made to them, but then again the site has grown considerably in the past few years and there are many more members than there were when I joined, approximately 5200 more members now than there were then. There have been a lot of good changes to the site that benefit members, most of which benefit Premium Members the most, but overall I feel the changes have been good. I look forward to seeing what happens with VR when the other sites Cancer is working on, that are part of The Dark Network, are set up and running. It should be interesting.

I dont think it should be old vr vs new vr because its the same vr with things such as forums and profiles, the change is exciting,Yes i did like it when 5's was about, like most people i got good at it and then it disappeared because of the amount of cheating that was going on. personally the new games are crap i dont play them anymore! But because the question is old vr new im going with old because of the games!

Old VR societies, a lot of them put up a whole new page for a chat box, new VR societies have one there already.

I remember playing games for favor, endless hours of hangman, and meeting new people through 5x5x5...good times.

I am new enough to not have a feel for the "Old VR", except through this thread and historical archives I have studied. I however can see a paradigm shift to a more friendly environment with more useful and easily accessed services for all members of the VR community.

I miss how the favor games helped out with favor. I miss the 5x5x5 game. Now with the games not helping ith favor I dont play them anymore.

I like the new layout of the society forums and the jump to new messages in the forums is a great feature

its a bit confusing but with help form my firneds i should be able to get used to it.lol

well for 1: Old VR had no societies, New VR does
2: Old VR had no hammering procautions... fun was the biting wars
New VR has them... stops hammering... but not cheating up a rank... or 20

Hm im not sure if this is the same game you guys are talking about but...i remember a time that Cancer, i think, created a bunch of questions and you couldnt proceed to the next question without answer them correctly. They were some tough ones too and I think some clue were even hidden around the site itself that you had to solve....does that even sound remotely familiar? lol It's been a while...> :D
