i have kids and people say they shouldn't be on a web site like this.i say go for it. if your kids are going to be in a site like this then thats ok. i would rather have my kids in a web site like this than any porn site
I agree with you 100% .i my self have kids and this site is way better for them then other sites
It really depends on the person and their views. For each person they must make the choice for themselves. My son is a bit young for a site right now so I would have to say no.
I have kids, and I think depending on their age. I enjoy this site and if my girls wanted to be on here that is fineso long as I am watching them. However; I don't feel that some of the contents is suitable on some sites, but that is my opinion as a mom. I watch what my girls do online. It's called supervision.
I agree with Runic I also have younger kids and I dont think some of the things on this site would be appropriate for them to read. But as long as the parent takes notice in what there child is doing on the internet I dont see the harm in it.
I'd rather have kids on porn sites than meeting up with older people they meet through sites like myspace and vampire freaks.
I would only caution against your kids using false ages or 'fake' profiles that might attract the wrong attention.
Kids creating false profiles is a big problem and will only grow bigger over time unless more parents start paying more attention to what thier kids are doing. It is not always snooping no matter what they say.
I have kids and my son uses a computer on a regular basis I have filters on his computer so he can't go into adult websites and no he will not be surfing around in any boards that I go to...where there are adults mingling it is not a place for children to mingle either but then again my son is only 6 lol
Well I would hope everyone here would agree this id not a place for anyone that young. The site itself limits people under the age of 13.
yup any site for kids is better than a porn site......of course there's loop holes with some sites but still at least u know where they go and stuff.
YES heartbreakers69, i definatly agree with you. i allow my dauther being on with me on her side, everything is better than her watching porn, snuff, extremly violence like rotten or bangedup, or braindumbing shit some poeple call funny, like putting a cat into microwaveoven...
She loves hunting here with me...
it´s all about SUPERVISING them, 100%
~well i have a ten year old and as long as i am sitting here beside her i wouldnt mind at all~matter of fact she sits by me alot when im on here~
If the kids have an interest, in this site, I would see no problem with it.
My 12 year old is counting down the days untill she is old enough to log into Vampire Rave. With that in mind I have set ground rules for her though, and the parental filters are in place. I do not have a problem with her being here as long as I am around to monitor it. When I am around she is locked out.. and so far she has not attempted to try and bypass the lockout.
My 9 year old however, watches from time to time as I surf the stie, will not have access to this site untill he at least reaches 13.
My daughter knows the consequences of doing things she is not supposed to, making her a responsible internet user is the only thing that I can do. The loss of internet time and computer time are always there on her "do not lose" priority list.
I will continue to monitor what she does online and when she is on VR.. and if something happens to make me belive that she is not ready for this site, then I will yank her access quicker then she can blink.
i agree with vampiraa and as long as they can come on here dont insult other members is fine gut some have gotten a little out of hand and some of the members have left becayse of it but if they have guidance when using it its fine w/me
I like to see all the comments about supervision. In my house it is all about their ability to comprehen what they are reading, and their level of maturity. I am sure that even at thirteen, my girl won't be on, due to her poor reading skill. But, when she improves enough, And I can watch over her shoulder, then she can go ahead and tromp around
Maturity is a big factor no matter what the age. I have worked with a few 18 year olds would not have the maturity level to be here LOL.
i dont have kids but i raised my youngest sister to the age of two so i would perfer if when she was old enough to use a computer to use this site or a site like it over some of the others
It is a matter of responsibility on the parent(s) to ensure of what thier kids do. Granted they can not be there 24x7 but if thiey instill trust and discipline and common sense and morall then nothing is wrong
I think kids should be well supervised on any site, it only makes sense for the parent to watch over their kids, but i would rather personally my child being here then a porn site, too many peds and molesters to attract to the porn sites which leads to child porn, and we need not out kids in danger of any of this kind of bull**** . Lets keep out children safe and keep the danger at bay.
If you watch out what your kids are doing(in a friendly way) and tell them about the good things and bad things of the internet, you shouldn't worry.
To hell with what others say.
i think i would rather my child go on vampirerave than other sites
Thank goodness the monsters are currently only four!
Hahahaha....
However, children should be supervised when it comes to the internet and various sites.
so long as they are aware of "stranger danger" along with parental guide as how much info is to much this site is a great chioce to help them start knowledge and online friendships.
i'd hate to break little hearts, though the idea of online supervision and regulation by parents is only comforting rather than practical..
ingenious are teenagers and children alike.
hehe.
daeg.
My eldest is 14 this year and i feel she would be mature enough to read alot of the profiles and journals, and to do her own but i would want to be able to keep an eye it, and discuss it with her so if she any concerns we could sort them out.
I personally don't have children however I am 23... and since I have been on this site I have had several teenagers WELL UNDER the age of 18 try to hit on me and start something! In that regard I think children need to be monitered. Due to my personal experience on the other end of things I have to say I would prefer young teenagers not be allowed on to this site.
S
I know it's unenforceable and minors make up a large section of this membership, but I personally feel that some of the information and discussions available here, not to mention some of the people, are inappropriate for the minds of children.
Even so, you want children that are of a certainf rame of mind that they -know- what they're looking at, exactly.
It's not a game, there are real people here, and everyone must be respected.
I had a friend who moved into a new area, and almost immediately her daughter was pracing around outside telling everyone they were witches, and if they had kids she could play with.
i agree with yall go for it if u want to be on here do it
It's not the site, it's not your kids, it's the people on the site that make the difference.
You can look at a website and think it looks lovely from the ouset. But get inside, get to know some people and you'll learn every tree has it's bad apples.
daeg,
You do bring up a good point. Alot of teenagers come to know alot more computers then their parents ever could. There are sites out there that even tell you how to bypass lockouts and such. I'm not saying every kid out can and will do it but it does come down to if you can trust your own child. So far I am glad to say my son is very mature for his age as yet have my complete trust so far. Yet that could change as time goes on he is still young.
I am torn about the subject.
I don't feel that a child should be on this site. The subject matters that are discussed are always sutible for children.
They are more for a person over the age of 18.
Also, I don't think people should have to deal with immature children. Hell, for that matter we shouldn't have to deal with immature adults! lol but that is another story.
Then again I think if a parent monitors thier child when on here. It shouldn't be that much of an issue. Some don't. You can tell this easily by the stupid," I will kick you ass," profiles they make.
I guess it really depends on the parent.
Since the only way to really get a 100% over 18 site is to have everyone pay. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
i agree there is so much discusting things kids can look at.... and this sight is safe i mean if you want it to.....
teach you kids about dangerouse ppl on the web....
Even is you made it pay only you'll still get those kids on here that Mommy and Daddy spoil beyond belief. I've known quite a fee people under 18 with either a credit card they got from their parents, or one of the bank cards that work like a credit card. Yes you would reduce the number of younger members but you'd never beable to trully remove them that way.
i agree with satinmist...supervision is key to any internet activity and kids, i have a son, and he isn't old enough to even know how to turn on a computer...but when he gets to be 13 er 14 it is okay for him to be on sites like this but supervised as there are still some controversial things here, and then again i'd rather have him here than on a porn site.
I hope every parent here would rather their sons and daughters to been on a site like this reather then a porn site. If that is not the case I personally would wonder about some of there parenting skills. Not that we all do not have diffrent was of raising are kids but there are a few think I would think are common to 99% of us.
i don't think it's a big deal as long as there are adults with them; some contents here aren't the best for lil kids and they could get impressed.
i belive that it's the parents responsiblity on weither or not they're children should be allowed or not...
kids can do whatever the f**k they want to. if their parents say no, then there are many ways to ignore them
I agree wiht you. I mean I just had a baby girl and I would rather her be on here then on a porn site. Anyways it's just our way and their way to express themselves!
I agree to I'd rather see a kid on this site than some porn site There are a lot of young people on here anyways. This place is like home to me I'd make sure they were safe wouldn't you guys?
i dont have kids, but i have a little brother that i love like my own son. he is a lot younger then me and i could be his father technically.
my view of it is like this... kid get 15 and you can do on the net what you want. although the rules for guys and girls would be different for the net.
both of them would have to tell me if they go meeting strangers but i wouldnt let my girl go alone to meet themi would go with her and wait at the same place but some yards away.
if i had a son and he was 15 i would say go have fun, but take care. (when i was 15 i was 5.9ft tall and weighed 170 pounds being a kickboxer and starting fullback in our highschool team. i guess thats exlapins the difference between a girl)
I don't believe that the age is so much of an issuse! Some children mature mentally more than others! That's why I believe that the parent should know their own child enough to make the decision! I mean just cause your childs friends are, well it doesn't mean that your child is mentally old enough to! Therefore the parents should judge the situation & their decision respected!
I think it depends on age and how mature that kid is...it just depends
If children have been raised right and get at least a token amount of supervision on the computer, chances are that they won't get up to too much trouble.
hmm
parental controls are all well and good...till you realise most kids know more about computers than their parents...and I mean even parents who know A LOT....
but otherwise as long as there is some monitoring....and you teach them about internet assholes....then it's no problem....
i would kinda class myself as a kid, i still haven parents that control what i do...well at least what they think they see. and my PC is in my room so they dont even know what i do. but yea i have no prob with this n already got a good friend on here recently. so go 4 it
Regardless of the site be it porn, vampire, Disney, myspace, the only thing in the end that matters is your involvement with your child. Styles of parenting very so greatly that no two children will ever be raised the same. Lack of parenting is what causes children to get into trouble and become lost. As for whether a site is appropriate for children or not, that is a question only a parent who is actively involved in their child’s life can answer. Some people have a problem with the fact that I have allowed my children to watch “horror” movies from a very young age. Superficially that sound irresponsible. But I always watched the movie with my children and explained how certain effects were made and acting techniques used to achieve that scene. I now have a son who is a gifted FX artist and wants to study in California. I allowed my daughter to dye her blonde hair purple and red at the age of 10. The public school system found that “disturbing”. I invite anyone to explain the difference between allowing her hair to be purple and red and letting her dye it blonde? Not one teacher and over half the student body is sporting their original hair color. The difference is that she is seen as unusual. But because I am an active parent, I understood her need to express herself and allowed her to do so in a safe and harmless outlet rather then have her cut on herself or worse. Be active with your children and no matter how you parent it will be a positive influence.
maturity counts a lot and kids does not have the same understanding of certain aspects of live, and they do not have the mentality to be on a site like this... 15 years or upwards, under strict supervision.. there are psycos on this site as well as other sites...
but I must say that I am against porn sites that can be visited by children....
let the children deside when they are old enough, do not force or in anyway influence them too much....
Lets see, Of course I would rather my son use VR than some Porn site. That seems like common sense to me. On the other hand I’ve no delusions about how much my 13 year old does on his own. Most parents try to ignore this side of the children. When you have one child at the age of 13. That one 13 year old has 18 personalities. The one the parents see and the 17 others allowing them the ability to justify what ever the hell it is they want at the time. My boy who is a little stud (not trying to brag just stating a fact) has more girls hanging out around him than any 13 should, but boys tend to act better when the opposite sex is involved so I allow it. I still don’t allow him to hop on MySpace and look around. This will probably bite me in the ass later, but a child raised by kids is already going to be messed up so I just hope I keep him off the most wanted list.
For the people who are concerned about your kids here is a site that might help
PROTECT THE CHILDREN
I have children and I still use this site, I don't think it has an effect on the type of parent that I am and I hope that when my children start to frequent the computer that they are able to find forums with so much diversity and so many good people.
Although I do not have any I would definetly agree that yes they should be allowed it is truely better then them going onto porn sites. And besides if they want to be "goth" or "punk" or just different this is one of the many sites to express themselves on.
I see nothing wrong with it but I agree with what Crimsonwolf had to say, the parents must be responsible for what they do.
I would have no problem with my 15-year old daughter being on this site. Over the years she has earned my trust, although I still keep an eye on her. I think it's a matter of maturity but also that kids need to learn caution. There's sometimes such a fine line between letting a child experience what the world has to offer while also helping them learn about potential danger - without scaring them to death.
Better to have a minor rebelling in thier attempt at self determination on here than pulling a "Hey Mister" down at 7-11.
i still dont have kids... but i have seen some valid points being pointed out that i will surely keep in mind when i will have kids... even tough its still a bit far :p .... but yes i have understood that you must instill in the kids the sense of awareness... or else when you get your eyes off them.. most probably they will wonder into harmful sites....
ps. thanks for the advice :)
Everyone where would agree on protecting thier children and I am sure quite a few here also look out for thier younger siblings and/or neices and nephews. You just have to be caareful not to be over protective because you might have then resent you and do thing out of spite.
CygnusNoir- I am sorry what is a "Hey Mister"? I've never heard that term before.
well I think any responsible parent will monitor their childs activities. In general this site only seems to promote responsible views. I wouldnt have a problem with it if I had kids.
Communitication is a large part of raising children. I agree with Crimsonwolf as well.
well im gonna be honest, Im pretty sick of rating profiles of 13 year old girls with no pics and maybe 2 words in them...it gets kinda old
seriously, i think there should at least be a one paragraph minimal description in order to have a profile.
As long as you know what sites they are on and you approve of the sites. As long as you monitor what they are doing.
No way shoudl children be on this site.. I am here, so that makes some of the topic on this site way more out there then the average porn site... secondly kids need to play with barbie and tonka trucks.. not with adults. and we tend to draw a sick lot here..looks around at all her friends.. yep..ppl that shouldnt influence children lol..i mean really... do you want your kid to turn out liek mos tof the users on this site....
scarlett - too fucking right. I am not a proper role model for children. I also heard that yard apes carry diseases the filthy little buggers.
well i dunno . i guees itin arte best interests but its not wut we really want and im a big liberal and dont like being told wut to do.
basically if the kids are into this then yeah let them, also you can keep an eye on them aswell :)
All things considered- it is up to the individual parent to decide what is best for their child/children. The problem isn't with the sites themselves, the problem is that there are way too many kids on here and other sites without their parents knowledge. Parents need to be aware of what is going on in their kids lives.
Being a single mom of three, I know how difficult it is to know everything that goes on- but my kids and I are pretty close that we tell each other pretty much everything. (The few exceptions being on my part!)
I agree with SatinMist
Its called supervision
well put. Parents blame others for what happens to their kids when they should blame themselves for not supervising their children properly. Its impossible to see every litlte thing they do but a computer is something u can monitor the majority of
Personaly I think parents and adults in general are way to protective of kids. there is nothing that bad on this website anyways. Besides trying to block stuff from kids is pointless since they will eventually see certin things anyways. You can't stop them and you cannot protect them forever.
Well it all depends on the age you classify as a "child"
well, my parents are fine with me been this website i mean whats wrong with it its not like as if every one is FOREVER swearin n stuff so theres no nneed to be woried about lettin kidsgo on it i mean say i had kids (wich i totally havent im far to yung) i wud be happy for em to be goin on a webby lyk this cuz i no its what they wana do n tht its safe and ....welll....thts it lol!
how old are the kids?
how old do the kids act?
how old are they in thier maturity, or lack of therefore?
i don't think there's a single answer for any parent as to what to let their kids do. this isn't a "bad" site, it's not going to turn them into little psycho killers. however while here they might read something or hear about something they don't understand... then it's your job to explain it to them.
I don't think there is anything wrong with having kids on the site. Hopefully their parents know they are on this site. Its kind of like raising pagan kids. If the parents are into the lifestyle and the kids want to be part of it, what better way to learn than to be in the same community as the parents. Where they can share experiences and the kids can ask questions and get various points of view.
Yes I agree... This site will teach them the truth about many topics that they would otherwise learn from the worse teacher of all...... Hollywood!!!
Well...I am a kid...mom doesnt care much for me being on this site, or myspace, or basically anything...but she says it is better than porn :P and to be out drinking and doin drugs...id rather be out come to think of it...but nooooo. gah :P
I would say it depends upon the individual child...If he or she is mature enough to understand the content then why not allow them to look and learn...As long as the parents are around to monitor what the child is getting up to them its all good
I have been on this site for a year or so. All I can say is I could be classed as a kid and without this site I might not still be here. The people here on VR was there for me at my darkess hours and gave me strength to go on. And THANK YOU all for it. There isn't many forum site like VR. Kid aimed ones are full of sex, drugs and crap like that.
VR is more of a family communitity than a chat forum about vampires. We don't judge we listern and understand. This site is perfect for kids (of course over 12 or so years old, don't confused little people).
As long as parents realize that this site or any forum could have their child asking them questions about drugs and sex and blood drinking (and it's dangers/precautions) or any number of more mature subjects a little earlier than they had thought or hoped.
I still think the dirty little squabs carry disease and fleas like rats and pigeons but that's just my opinion ;)
I so agree with you, When my fledgling Drake is old enough im gonna show him this site on pourpose, that way, hopefully, he will be able to have a better understandin as to who and what his dada is... heh heh ... as well see how much i do care for him when i takes a peek at my prof and port
i hate kids but i'm still a kid my self and do iratting things just to piss ppl off and its funny for some reason to me
If I had kids who wanted to join a site, and they had never joined one before, I'd sit down with them and make a fake profile to show them exactly how easy it is to lie about who you are - just to make sure they think twice before giving out too much info online. I mean, even telling someone what school you go to can be dangerous these days.
I have a daughter that is 11 and I feel she is mature enough to handle a site like this. Some kids are not mature enough at 16 to handle it. It all really depends on the kid, they are all diffrent. I also agree that I would rather my child be on this site than a porn site or even an AOL chat room can be bad. I do keep an eye on what she is doing and who she is talking to just to be on the safe side, but usually if she has a problem with someone she tells me about it.
I have a daughter that is 11 and I feel she is mature enough to handle a site like this. Some kids are not mature enough at 16 to handle it. It all really depends on the kid, they are all different. I also agree that I would rather my child be on this site than a porn site or even an AOL chat room can be bad. I do keep an eye on what she is doing and who she is talking to just to be on the safe side, but usually if she has a problem with someone she tells me about it.
Sorry about the double post my computer went on the fritz.
I suppose its just with the parenting. Some prefer different tecniques than others. Honestly, this site is to mature for a child. Not that there is anything that it would have to be rated for; just some of the comments around here can be a little more than damaging.
i do agree with you but with some of the people on this site i still agree with an age limit
Whether or not this site is better than a porn site is irrelevant and a straw man argument. Of course no one thinks children should be logging onto a porn site. That doesn't in any way attest to the quality of this site (for children) simply because there is worse out there. One still has to acknowledge that children can and will be exposed to mature if not adult conversation on this site and that some children without supervision have taken a shine to creating a fake age profile as well as 'acting out'. So while this site is not as bad as the worst out there, supervision should still be a key factor in children on this site or any other.
I agree you should always know what your child is doing and who they are talking to.
Blessed be,
~Angelia
my15 year old daugther has a profile here there are better regulations here than most places including my space
I work in a school district and I see kids on the net all the time that definitely have not been taught whats right and wrong. The biggest problem is that most parents don't know anything about computers and don't know how to check behind their kids and see what they are doing. Even though I don't worry about my daughter, I still have all her passwords and can check her sites and profiles any time. If I find anything that isn't right I confront her and the person that is being inappropriate with my daughter. She is 17 now but I will continue to do so until I feel that she is completely safe.
i dont have any kids i am still one myself but i understand right from wrong so i think that my kids would be allowed to do what ever they want on the internet unless thay look at porn then i would have to put my foot down
I don't have the patience to read everything, but here's my two cents anyway.
Kids under thirteen, yea, I wouldn't have them on here by choice, but if I had kids I wouldn't want to dictate completely. As long as they're not so stupid as to give out full names and locations and as long as they aren't gullable. Just educate them about what can happen, tell them to be safe. However, I don't believe in supervising everything they do. They won't feel free, they'll resent you, and then just to be rebellious, chances are they Will do something stupid. This is the way my mom handles me on the computer. I wouldn't even be on a site like this if she supervised it, but I don't give out my full name or location, I'm not gullable, and I don't put up nude pictures or anything. I just like having a place to myself where I can make some sort of friendship without needing her approval.
As for porn sites, what's really so wrong with them? As long as they're not really young. They're humans too and they're growing into adults and it's really not like they're meeting predators and it doesn't nessisarily mean they're going to go out and have sex just because they see it. In fact, it could be a bit of a reliever to see something. That might not make sense cause I can't explain it right, I guess I'll say it this way, never seeing anything kids wonder, become curious, and their own sexual tension rises. They need someway to explore and let out the tension without resulting to having sex. At least, that's the way I see it. I'm just one person, one view, one reality. Yep.
If a parent thinks their children couldnt handle a sight like this there is security build right into IE to prevent them from viewing such a sight.
I have 3 kids and I wouldn't have a problem with them being on the site with supervision. I haven't come across anything too obscene except maybe some language and a few "risky" pictures. But nothing I would consider pornographic in nature. Of course this would only pertain to my oldest ones who are over 13. My youngest would be a definite no.
parents must take an active role....the responsiiblty falls on their shoulders..not the internet
When I feel my daughter is old enough to be on this site, I'll let her. Yes I will be monitoring what she does. Every parent should be aware of what their child is doing on the web.
There are many worse website kids could be on than here.
i have two kids, an wont put there pix up on here, no resone, im not against it or any thing, im just not goin to
i agree kids should be able to be on the site but the should honestly be monitored
The problem is that denying a kid to post anything on any website, in many cases won't help. It will only incite them to find other ways to do it. So, maybe letting them do it will actually allow the parent to monitor or even guide the kid. Then again, I have no kids so I have no idea how will I react as a parent...
Having no children of my own, I only have so much direct experience in this department... but it has been my experience that a kid has the same mind everyone else does, and more willingness than older people to use it at times as well.... the best I can say is take them individually.... some will be mature, and some will "act their age"... but the same holds true of older people too... so why should we judge them any different than an adult? I've met some younger kids that are MORe mature than some adults.
I believe it depends on the maturity of the child.. having no children of my own though I cant give a prespective from the parents side, excpet to know that proper security measures need to be in place
I will definitely agree with that.,... some kind of age verifier maybe? Although that might become a POA for the rest of us....
I think is wonderful that there are families who enjoy this website together, I think is really cool, I wish I could do that with anyone from my family for that matter I think it would be fun and I believe is safer for the children since the adults are around to keep an eye on things.
Everyone seems rather friendly here so for this website at least, I would let children visit it. :)
I think it is great for kids to see sites like this and decide for themselves if this is the kind of thing they are into.
i think that kids have there own way of thinking you may not think this site could corrept them but they could look at it in another way and use the information for somthing not so good therfore you have a 50/50 cance of how it will turn out. other than that i dont see the problem
completely agree with you....it was me that introduced my dad to the site
i totally agree with that. when i started in with this site my parents had a huge problem whit it. then i told them "um have you forgotten i'm 18 and make desicions on my own?". then they got off my back about it and my dad said that he rather me be on a site like this than some porn site.
My daughter ( age =8) likes to see those "fairy pictures.. hey! its even better than let her share my time playing DOOM3 or F.E.A.R
right???
I agree that it's better to have them here than a porn site...If they are here because they are truly interested and not just somewhere to play around...There are several rules and post problems mainly because of people being immature...I would suggest that if you have young kids and they want to be here YOU should go over the rules and responsibilities of the site with them.
