My question is this....we are here to live but a certain amount of time, then we are to die. If the ending result is death then why do we need rto be here knowing that at any given monent that we can die?
I am looking to hear your responses to this subject.
good question dear.
and very good point.
We live to die is what I believe.
I don't know what the point is.
I mean there has to be a point at a certain time.
in the end death will come and we will be ment to do something after maybe?
Maybe there is something beyond death we have yet to find out.
There is a perpuse for this.
who only knows whom or what it might be.
but only will we find out in death.
and that I shall embrace it when it comes.
Lady horro
i think its the rotation of life.life waits for death and death awaits life if u know what i mean.to me death is like a dream u go and come back(maybe)
There's a few responses I can think of to this one.
Firstly, why not?
Secondly, I agree with atw... the point is the journey.
And thirdly, some people believe that life is cyclical. You are born, you live, you die, then you are born again.
Just a few. I'm sure there's more.
If we weren't faced with death, would we appreciate life as much?
I have wondered the same thing. Why are we here if we are just going to die? I think there might be something after death and life is just a preperation for it.
what's the point of life ?...
that's something for each individual to figure out for themselves I think.
i have always believed that your death will symbolize how you lived , if you live life to the fullest then you will be remembered if you are an ass then people tend to forget you were even here , its all about how we choose to live and the choices we make along the way that defines what we are or will become
We're here because we weren't given a choice in the matter, but as long as we're here on this earth, we should make the best of things and live life to the fullest.
seriously deaths is meant to be easy coz this life is hard..lol,when i remember back in the days when i save my milk from my cereal for the next meal.lol,u know then i realize death is not easy but now who cares about death..seriously am having fun i dont care about death....i believe its a recyclying thing i dont really keen on it
The end is nothing, just the beginning.but until the end comes and a new beginning emerges.the journey to the point is everything.its what you do till you get there that counts.and i know one thing,i,d happily give my life to protect those i love.
AtYourWindow.. you said it best.
It is not the destination that is important but how you get there and what you do along the way..
I've always figured life is about learning. If I weren't meant to learn, perhaps I wouldn't have been born a human.
This is all assuming there is some grand design for the human race. It could just be a matter of we're here because so many years ago, a man and a woman decided to bump uglies. We got born, and because nothing lasts forever, we end up dying.
I believe we are all born with a specific path in life and we live to follow that path. We interact with those around us and impact their lives. If we are truely "good" souls, we live our alloted time and leave to return to a different path.
In the biblical sense, man was not created to die but the transgresson of Adam & Eve condemmed man to certain death, but it was in conception that man would have to work his way back to the 'Bosom" of the creator. Man would have to endure hardship, turmoil, etc..etc.. to prove his worthyness to return to his original "state"
But because of mans transgression- the "fruit" thing....there would be an emnity between the womans seed...(Man) and the Devils seed (I'm not going to enter the term here it would just cause too much confusion)
Than emnity would be a tug of war between good and evil, positive and negative, the ability to lead Man away from the knowledge of his beginnings and in doing so keep him on a path of digression from his rightful place.
MAn I'm too tired to continue this I've been up over 40 hours and I'm going to crash...you guys take it from here...but keep it real
many have asked this question my 15 year old niece did the other night truelly and honestly i do not think anyone can answer it just say their beliefs and there thoughts on the matter. my thoughts are we are here cause we have to be some where and the thought of death is what is suppose to make us try to make the best out of everything in life
There are so many great answers here and I must agree with most. It IS the journey, you are born just to die.
I don't know about that. You are put on this earth to serve a purpose in life, a path, somewhere to experience what life is all about, when your path is over its time to go.
The point of life is to live until you die. Death is a given but it is no reason to stop living and just wait for it.
No one would live life to it's fullest if they didn't know death was there waiting. It gives a deadline, though a very elusive deadline, a deadline none the less.
It's a what's the meaning of life questions which are normal to ask.
Knowing that they're going to die is something that makes certain people value their life more and be more hopeful to make their dreams come true, maybe that's why.
Are we living merely to die? I would rather look at it as an experience (of a lifetime) to be here in this current life.
We can only speculate as to what comes next, but we shouldn't forget to live in the here and now.
Well.. good points everyone.
My take.
Death is going to get you sooner or later. No avoiding it. Live life the way you want, regret nothing that made you smile, and take death whenever it comes.
All who are born die. All that die are reborn.
It is so we may grow and become one with Creation that this is so.
It depends on what you believe happens after death..if you believe anything.
Personally I believe that in each lifetime there are specific lessons we are supposed to learn. Maybe for the purpose of progression of the soul along the path to become "godlike" ...
No matter what you believe.. life simply "is what it is". You can choose to make the most of it or dwell on why you're here and just wait for death.
AYW, you have a very valid point, its not about the beginning or end, but about the journey.
My only other thought is, for everything to have a begining, it must have an end for it to have any meaning or purpose.
weather we know or dont know it doesen't matter, we can not alter it much anyway..we can extend it by looking after ourself or decrease it by not looking after our selves ....
I think that even tho were only on Earth temporarly, we have jobs to accomplish as a purpose. Does that make sense? I hope so...i just woke up and my brain is fuzzy.
I want to thank everyone for posting on here. I had a friend that had cancer and that is what inspired to make this thread....however I am terribly grief stricken due to the fact that he passed Saturday the 22nd of September due to it. He fought a 6 month battle with it.
At the moment of conception we are dying. I don't think the end result is what anyone should be looking at, as no one can state the exact day or time or how of death. I feel that while we are alive and breathing there is lessons to be learned, memories to be gathered for the next journey, and just a fulfilment. There is purpose, we have enriched our soul for the next journey around.
The phrase, "Life life to the fullest" applies here.
Is there a reason we exist? Probably. It's probable, but not provable. I don't think we'll ever know what we're here for, unless we have some sort of divine intervention...But, then, we could be going crazy...
But one thing that's true is that we do exist, though this is arguable, lol, but we must exist even if this is in our heads. So, we may as well make the best of it. We're here, there's no use changing that fact, what would be the point?
I think that we are here to experience life, if we never thought of death, we would not try to get as much done...
I've often thought of the same thing.
Its slightly stupid to live and die.
Well to me.
Thats why i do what most people don't.
So i guess we are here just to make sure this damn planet doesn't end.
And to leave our mark on it.
I think that we all have a mission, so to speak, and when we complete it then we die to go on to our next mission.
I believe we choose to be placed upon this plane of existence to learn certain lessons. We have a time span in which to accomplish these lessons. We are here to learn from one another and I truly believe there are no coincidences. Every person we have an interaction with, whether for a moment or a life time, has something to share with us. To believe we only live to die is completely missing the point of living. Each day is a gift and should be treated as such.
Live well, laugh often, love much
Well, I don't think we necessarily choose when to be born. We may choose to reincarnate. Either way, with birth comes death. I think that our lives are for us to do something good, or kind, for ourselves and others. It doesn't work like that, but it would be ideal. Just my opinion.
The meaning of life...well I think everyone, even "bad" people have something they are supposed to do. Every generation does somthing more complex than the last, we become...better for lack of a better word. So the point of living is do that, and to live. Also if you believe in a form of life after death, you a rewarded for doing well in life.
death is a silly word if you ask me
we are born out of death into a new.....
life is endless, truly the only thing that dies is the mortal skin we wear, so have fun and live free life is life and even the dead roam
what CelestiaNocturne said is true we are here for some purpose what it is who knows but in time we accomplish it with out even knowing it and we dont die only the mortal body does are energy and esscense continues to live on.
the thrill and excitement of not knowing quite when and how you will die.
I think that we live as many times as we need to...maybe to learn enlightenment or some thing like that... or maybe by choice. Either way there is no point in worrying about death. It's just part of life.
Everyone does have a purpose in life, and they must do their best to fulfill it, but their are to many people who worry about death, death is going to come no matter what, life is what people has to worry about...
living life is a great thing to me and it is something to be enjoyed until the journay of it is over. The point of living a life in the first place is the jounary and to see how things are going to fall in place. Life is a gift to all who live on this planet and should be happy they are here among the living in the first place. If people want to embrace death as it truly is then im fine with that but for me im going to truly enjoy my life as much as possable when im still amoung the living.
if we were born knowing when we were to die - would we live our lives differently ? maybe thats why we dont know when
We live, we die, we cease to exist. No mystery, no reason, no point.
Life without the risk of oblivion at any momenty would be the ultimate bore.
Death...life....these two words have been the discussion of mankind since the beginning of time.
Why would we just live then die...?
To me it is more of the fact that...unless your an evolutionist...there has to be an "afterlife"
Every religion has it...despite what each one calls that afterlife or how many different places there are...from heaven to hell...as is Asgard to Niflheim (plus several other celestial places). There has always been dieties and afterlives in every religion since the beginning of mankind.
So with that in mind...why are we here on this rock...a test...or as an islamic friend put it...an exam...how we act in this life and what we learn carries on with us.
How will we begin the next journey after we complete this one...that depends on ones belief and perspective.
I believe we are here to sustain the souls and spirits in the world, I believe they can exsist for a period of time without a physical form but not for too long and we're here to give them a body and live through them and act for them. We're kind of like batteries recharging them for the next time they will be looking for another host
life is a never ending recycling program. Your physical body is dead and buried. but your soul is reborn as another person
don't you like the rush knowing you could end up as worm food at any moment? animals fear not so why should you. learn to live!
it is the knowledge that we are going to die any moment
it is the knowledge that we pick up along the way
i think we live just so knoweldge can be passed down and eventually life as we know it is gonna scece
I don't think we live to die per se. It's all part of the journey we are on. I think life is more like, hmmmm, just the beginning I would have to say. Life is preparing us for are real life, the one after death. And if we learn all we have to on the journey then we remain. If not, we reincarnate and begin the journey for knowledge again.
i honestly dont know why were here but i say lets make the most of it
It used to be (how i was taught) God is the maker, he put us here to walk the earth and rule over all that is on it animals, plants etc... and we werent meant to accually die, 'heaven' was meant to becaome apart of this earth that is untill The first of our kind disobeyed the maker. Now the decendence suffer, go through like having to work, having to feel pain, woman bares the pains of child Birth and the exhaution of living we work here then what we do in like will determine our outcome after death, which is as i was taught to be the beginning the true beginng (cry at births) (smile at death) but that was how my mother put it, I am still tossing the idea of a god in my head I have had many years of witchcraft but many things have changed me in to wanting to let it go b/c of things i've been through things it's made me do to those i love and things i've seen happen. i've messed with the dark arts for too long so perhaps it's time for me to move on and seek new things, and what i seek is a Utopia, a place where everything ill be ok to get back to "THE GARDEN" no pain no hate but peace and prosperity isn't that what everyone wants? to not have to put up w/ drama, and hate, to not be judged, to not have racism, to not have to worrie?
I mean Doesn't it make more sence to unit and be greater then to just have bunches here and there? TOGETHER AREN'T WE STRONGER? AREN'T WE ABLE TO ACHEIVE MORE?
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO GRASP THIS CONCEPT?
My belief is that we are living this "life" to learn the lesson we chose to learn for this time on earth, and once we have learned the lesson, our time is up and we die.
yes, yes my thoughts exactly thank u for that I wish i could have made my other ppost simplar but...
The knowledge that we will surly die can be seen as a gift or as curse. We can either focus on the wondrous here and now.. or we can focus on when that end might come..
To be honest sometimes i think that their is a purpose in life then other times i feel like their was no reason to be here, i think that everyone has a purpose in life but some just have it better than others...
I believe it is for us to appreciate what we have and to enjoy it to the fullest. If we did not know death then we could not appreciate life. It is the thought knowing that we are not going to be here forever that makes me enjoy talking to people and smelling flowers or walking in a cool breeze
Death, being inevitable is a funny thing. Some can't wait to get there, where others fear it above all else...almost to the point of wasting their entire existence trying to avoid it. I definitely agree, with a combination of above. We live to die, but it isn't as black and white as just that...it is definitely all about the journey. I keep the philosophy "laugh now, cry later", more accurately...I try to avoid a point and time in my life where I look back and say, "what if...". If I do and fail, or I do and succeed are of no consequence.
In my opinion we are here living this life as a test to see if we are worthy of ascending to the next life. If we pass the test we ascend if not we are re-born to another life here to correct the wrongs we made first time round.
It is also my opinion that this is why many people have more than one life *past lives*.
well, if there's no life after dead... this life here worths nothing... at least to me, and I'm really sorry, but that kind of thoughts that we will born again... the reincarnation, is like nothing... even if it was true, what's the point? when you die, everything that you know will be lost forever, all of your memories, your family, your friends, the ones you love, the things that you saw, the things that you love or hate, it will be lost forever... even if it's true, and you reborn in another body, you will not be the same person ever again... you will learn new things, you will have new friends and a very different family, and you will be in a different era... so, it worths nothing, it's like if you never been here, it will not be you, one of the things that we have different from any other animal or thing, it's the extraordinary individuality, there's no such thing as two equal persons... and that's the amazing thing, if we are so different, why must we die? one of the things that I come across, is that the society is inducting in our minds, why not? why must we not die? who wants to life forever in this stupid world?
well, the world is more and more stupid because of us... we turn it into this that we now have... I do want to life forever, but not here, of course... and I believe the most of you wants that to... or else why the fascination for vampires? billions of people from the past, believed in eternal life, no matter how it was presented, they believed. (period) where they all wrong? the only thing each one needs to find is: were is the true about this? there cannot be two truths...
to me... I have found eternal life in Jesus Christ, the Son of God... ^^
pls forgive any bad english...
You don't know when death will come so you live to you fullest anf take it from there. For every life there is a death, and every death, a life.
If we never died there would be no room left in the world for all of us. Also death helps to feed the earth so new life can grow and feed off death. That's what I think anyway.
I agree with atyourwindow it's the journey and not the destination. Besides what is the other alternative? Never existing at all? That seems worse to me...
I dont fear death as We all will come back again but it matters not about where and when we die but how we choose to live our lives and the course we take and How much we give to the other lives we touch and the experiences we have like atw stated and other its the Journey we take and "Live"
its a recyclable subject indeed, we choose our own paths and that is self gratification. Helping others on the way, or helping ourselfs to help people. Are we not born to die?
i believe that it is the next step in our lives and maybe we do come back evently in another form after death.
This is a topic I have thought about, myself, at great length. My own conclusion is that the universe or creator thereof is seeking to quantify itself through all living things. How do you measure (define) the infinite? Break it up in smaller bits and release them into the wild and observe. As in all experiments there are controls and variables (death is a part of this) and I truly feel comfortable with this model to describe my view of the world, it's workings, events and even the behavior of individuals.
The simpler your answer the closer to truth it rings. Or something like that. :) I mean, when something as simple as E=MC(sq) leads humanity to the atomic bomb... makes you stop and think.
I do not feel it is the length of time that we spend here yet the quality of that time we use and how we learn from what we experience in the time frame , think of how many people touch other lives just by being here even if for a short time
there is a reason for everthing that is and we need to realize it before that time is gone .
Just my opinion and view on it
To keep entropy at bay ...
Otherwise your life is without meaning.
I must, respectfully, disagree. Death is often seen as a bad thing. In reality, death gives life meaning and more importantly, value. I refer you to the episode of The Simpson's where the biblical rapture occurs and those left on earth can not die. Hilarity ensues and lots of life's value is lost when it can not be. It is satire, but no less true.
Its the cycle of life. There must be death as well.for each death life is given.
ill have to agree with icarus on this one, death is only the real beginning of an immortal life
I believe that death i snot the end. We have options at death. To go one to an afterlife.. what ever version you like. Or to return to live a new life.
I believe that people live over and over to learn and experience new things and to reach the state where they wish to move on to the next step of the afterlife.
attiyourwindow is absolutely correct. It is the journey not the destination. We do not live to die. We live to make the most of living and then we die. We may not be able to change the dying part but we can certainly make the living worthwhile.
i agree with the we live to die but thats a good question though
Life is self-explanatory. With the basics taken care of --- food, shelter and affection, it feels good and we want more of it. Life is an end in itself. Every organism is propelled toward growth and exploration.
It's death that is pointless. It's a no win situation, all possibility over.
The point of life is living. Death is the element of surprise. If we live each day as though it is our last, what would we worry about when we die? People come and people go, its what kind of mark you leave on the earth's forehead that truly matters most.
It was explained to me that before our life here on earth we were spirit beings who never knew anything but joy. To come here to earth and live in human form we are going to learn what it is to feel pain and loss and all the trials that life has to throw at us so that when we die and return to the spirit world we will appreciate what we have there because we will know what it is like to not have all that is wonderful.
I agree with a lot f things that have been said here...some I have heard and others are new. Many different point of views. Thanks.
i think everyone has a purpose in life
and we are just waiting to take the next step...
we live because we are scared to die.
we were meant to live for more, but our purposes are hidden, and most people dont want to try to look.
we die because we are done with living, whether we like it or not
someone once told me we are here to complete a mission so to speak
and everytime we come back here we are here to do somthing like for my self i am to save someone and i couldnt quite understand that but now i am thinking im here to save my slef not sure still tryig to figure it out
Your question is so important.
But it brings up more questions.
If we are all destined to die then why don't we make the journey death a little sweeter.
Why do certain people feel obligated to inflict misery on others?
Is not the ability to see and to hear and touch...such a rare gift?
We should feel blessed to have these senses...even if it is for a limited time.
And to rob people of them just seems injust.
Good question...i believe its just the cycle its what is supposed to happen granted whethere we want it or not..
I think the point of being here is the experiences we can have because life and death are two totally, completely different things.
