This topic has probably been done to death, but I want you're opinion on this. It was once explained to me that orbs are just balls of energy, not technically spirits/ghosts. What do you think? I find it odd that these 'balls of light' are only caught in some photos, when they're supposedly 'floating around' everywhere. Are they, perhaps, only prevalent in certain areas? Maybe near a 'vortex'?

They seem to be a physical manifestation of a spirit. In that case they would be nothing more than a ball of energy, but energy with a will of its own.

Ever watched Mosthaunted? Or a ghost hunting thing like that? Pisses me off when they get all excited over an Orb. I suppose they are balls of energy that can be manipulated and made into other things.

I was taught that they are balls of energy. And that as being energy may be a spirit. I was also taught that the power of the energy will make them more or less visible.

Some do stay near a vortex, while others stray away.

A few ideas I have seen, show that orbs may be a rift in dimensions and time, like an alternate reality or possibly how energy or spirits of people may exist in the future.

So an orb may or may not be sentient, maybe it's just someone's (alive) collected energy that's been sent off.

Quite possibly, or as others said, it could be an overlapping of realities. Something from another dimension appearing in ours. It's not impossible...

it may or may not be spiritually sentient.
depending on many things.
Some call fireballs.. orbs. and they aren't.
but i suppose one could argue they are energy balls nonetheless.

I don't know that I can agree that orbs are 'physical' mnifestations. Visible, yes, but hardly tangible.

the only "orbs" i've seen is ball lightning, could be sentient, or could just be what it is...a big warm and fuzzy ball of delightful electricity.

Multiverse? I love that theory, There's so much to discuss about it and so many possiblities. I'm sure a multiverse would make timetravel possible?

I beleive that they are a glare! lol!! yeah rigth actually i have pondard the same! and t tell you the truth i thought it was a spirit! or balls of energy that surround a vortex or lead spirits to a vortex! u know?

this is one topic i dont really have much to say on... the only idea i can think of to explain the reason they only show in photos it that they refract the light made from the cameras flash... that would explain why we cant see them in person....

People can and do see them in person.

I have only experienced a 'display' once though but it was quite impressive.....at the time my partners Father was dying.

My partner also saw them and seemed to gain some comfort.....after he checked that there was no other explanation.....he did'nt believe in 'psychic' stuff at the time lol

Orbs aren't only caught on film. Some people have seen them with their own eyes. Usually an orb can be seen with one's peripheral vision.

My own opinion on orbs is that they are 98% of the time dust or bugs...or some other natural anomaly.

I think if I were to see an orb of light in my living-room....I would probably conclude it was a spirit of some type..... If it were outside I might conclude it was some type of electrical energy from our atmosphere.

I think orbs might be guardians of some type, or a smaller version of a ghost. Not a full fledged ghost but certainly a manifested spirit.
They're generally only in "haunted" places, or places that are psychically active.

I think that rbes are around us all the time...they are our loved one comming and checking on us.
Although a lot tend to stay in haunted houses.

I believe that they are more or less images of light caught in the lense. I think that if it was a spirit, it would be more shapely. I have this one picture that has a glare and the light on the lens made an orb shape beside me, but I have another picture of a more shaply figure beside me that wrapped around my body almost. People are just so stuck on the idea os ghosts and money, they lose track of details like that

i was taking a class on how to be psycic. in my minds eye i saw some circles. i figured it was nothing and i had no vision. in hind sight maybe it was spirit energy i was seeing, in my minds eye.

orbs are spiritual light from people who haven't pass over yet and still have work to be done on the earth ...

but why would it be orbed shaped? people aren't balls.

a lot of energy tends to gather into a ball form. I think they do this so that they can be seen so that the people they are around will know that they are there

There is no proof of what orbs are. There is evidence that the ones seen in photographs are just dust but that doesn't account for people seeing them though without a camera. I saw one when a friend of mine died. That experience leads me to believe that they are connected to spirits.

I have pics with orbs in them. One set is 2 pics same subject taken about 30 seconds apart. 1 pic no orb the 2 is an orb. I think they are some kind of energy coming from a spirit

True, but we're not talking about people.

Spheres are a naturally occuring shape whether by gravity or other natural forces that shape the form. Perhaps there is a sub-atomic particle or even a singularity that the orb is organized around.

Why a persons energy, living or dead, would exist as an orb is beyond me. Though, I guess, it is possible.

I know they've been seen alot in graveyards. This is a topic which I think alot of thought could be put into, but personally I'm too tired right now. They could be the after effects of energy aftera....belheehehehekjehrjke too tired to explain what my brain thinks. Sorry. Might try again tomorrow lol.

Hold your hands in front of you, and pretend you are holding a balloon-like ball between them. See this ball clearly in your imagination and feel the imaginary ball as it rests between your hands.

If this was an actual balloon, it would contain a certain amount of air. It shouldn�t be under inflated, nor should it be filled to the breaking-point. To fill this energy-ball, send two streams of energy out of your hands and into the imaginary ball. As the energy goes into the energy-ball, it should get larger, just as putting more air into a real balloon would make it larger. When you feel you have placed a sufficient amount of energy into that energy-ball, stop!

Continue to use your hands to contain the energy-ball while you make a mental note of the size of it. Enclosed in that ball of energy is raw mental current. Try to feel this current as it presses against the palms of your hands. Feel this current as it tries to force your hands apart, as the energy tries to escape.

I have anothe rlike what enchanted said. Rub your hands together until you feel them tingle. Roll them around as if you were moulding a ball. This makes a ball of energy and you should be able to feel it tingling in your hands. Try passing it to someone straight away.
I did this and passed it to my friend, she also felt it and it gave her a shiver.
You could say that these energy balls are orbs, but we can only feel them, not see them.

I think they are left over energy from a spirit personally..

I have been told by many and I have read articles by many that say they are spirits and that they are a good sign to have around. Most of the time, the orbs are a good presence and are a sign of protection. I have seen several orbs in many places and have had several show up in pictures of my own and from others as well. they are balls of energy and i do not believe that they are everywhere, i think that the reason that some people can take pictures of them is because they are around at that time

Most likely the orbs are caught on film because the people takeing the pictures are in the right place at the right time otherwise every picture that anyone would take would have some form of orb in them and their are a lot of orb pictures but their would be 1000 times more if orbs were everywhere...

i have seen some weird stuff develop on film. if light balls are energy, what does it mean when the background come out a salmon color, like a eerie glowing orange? I just think there are burps in film and lighting and such. sorry.

most orbs are just dust in the lens. but i do believe they are balls of energy from a soul. you need to make sure what you see is a orb and not just dust.

i personally believe there sperits who havent crossed over to the other side who havent found there reason to fully cross over yet to the other world?

'Orbs' as you call them are merely dust particles floating around. they give off a 'glowing' appearance when light is reflected off of them Atleast that is what I beleive but than agian that is the scientific explanation. Which makes sense

I think they're simply bits of dust that have reflected light from a source within the surrounging area. I tend to chuckle a bit at people insisting there is 'spiritual presence' in some dusty dirty area simply because there are 'orbs' in view. Cold spots and various manifestations are a different story however. Simply my skeptical views on things being expressed.

I have always believed them to be the manifestation of a spiritual being. However I do like the multiverse theory :D

For the skeptics its understandable that its difficult to believe and don't feel bad for expressing this.

We live in an amazing world that we only understand what we see before us that is solid and dependable. So its hard for some of us to believe in something we haven't seen or experienced before. I have experienced orbs of light not on film or in photography but right there in my face so its hard to for me to discount them. :) But I can understand those that do :)

I believe they are just balls of light. With picutres, I have heard people say to use your best judgement because a dust particle can be mistaken for an orb.

I think that some orbs are bighter then others and that is why you see them in pictuers

I have never experienced orbs, but I have to say personally I think they are more than just dust reflecting light.

From what I have read they can represent spirits but also other creatures such as fairies. I am not an authority on this so don't beat me to death over it.

what are orbs

I won't tell you I know the answer to this question. No one has the true answer to this question yet, but that's part of the job of researchers and investigator.

One of the leading theories concerning what orbs are and the one that I lean towards the most is that they are not the spirit at all. The orb is the energy being transferred from a source (i.e. powerlines, heat energy, batteries, people, etc) to the spirit so they can manifest. This may not even be a conscious thing the spirit is doing, just a natural way they get their energy. This would explain why the orbs are round balls. According to the laws of Physics energy being transferring like that would assume is natural shape of a sphere. This theory can also be tied into the EMF readings we get during spirit activity.

I always approach things with a bit of skepticism, so when I saw all these websites start showing off these photos as ghosts, I was just as weary as most of you. I just had to try it for myself. I took a 35mm camera that I had used regularly for 6 years in all types of lighting and weather and had never gotten an orb or other unexplainable photo before and went out with a few seasoned field investigators on a cemetery investigation. One of the investigators was psychic and she pointed out a few areas we should take photos, so I did. I also had ghost footsteps walkup behind me twice and I turned around quickly and took photos of the empty air. When I got my photos developed, I had these orbs and fog in those photos that I was told to take, as well as the footstep ones. All my other photos were normal. Coincidence?

Since we do not know what orbs truly are, just that they seem to be found mainly in areas where there is ghost activity, I will tell you what they are not. On a normal investigation there are about 10 people using 10 different cameras, 35mm and digital, and many speeds and brands of film. They all get their film developed at separate places. Let's say only half of these investigators get some orb photos. Are these water spots or dirt on the lens? That would mean that 5 people all had similar dirt on their lens and all 5 did not clean their lens either. Are these orbs film processing errors? Well the 35mm cameras all had their film developed in different locations and used different film so that is very unlikely. The digital cameras can't have film-processing errors. I am aware that some people feel that the orbs on a digital camera are an error in the digital processing of the image. When that error does occur in digital photos, the objects tend to be square in nature, not round and they cannot be semi-transparent, the pixel behind would have to be corrupted also. I will not even address the precipitation theory, no legitimate researchers takes photos in any form of precipitation. What about dust and dirt being stirred up? Can that be the cause of the orbs? If that were the case, I would think that there would not be normal photos in a sequence of photos from the same camera and location. All of the shots in a sequence should have the dust or dirt in it. We find that most orb photos do not appear in consecutive photos. All photographers present should get orbs if it is dust being stirred up as well.

These are just a few things for the skeptics to think of when they are condemning an orb photo as a fake or fraud and some things for investigators to consider when checking their photos for positives.

what are orbs.

Theshining1 makes a lot of sense. We are made up of energy and when we die the energy has to continue in some way as it cannot be destroyed. It makes sense that it takes some form until it reaches whatever place or thing it evenually becomes.

I believe in orbs there are alot when i go to the cemetary, I see alot of red ones or mostly white ones little orbs so to me that means children or a baby there is different colors and i for got what each color means

Personally i think orbs could be a hundred and one diffrent things. It all depends on what a persons personal belifs are and how opened minded that person is. It could be excess energy or it could be a spirit that has no physical manifestation, like a ghost for instance. Or it could be just excess energy that was all in one general area and the evaporated in a since. Anyhting is acctually posibble.

Not being completely sure what an orb is, I thought I would throw this in ...

a few mythological vampires become balls of energy or fire:

The vampires of the Caribbean (Soucoyant - Ol' Higue - Loogaroo) would shed their skin and turn into balls of flame while hunting for blood

The Mexican vampires, Tlaciques, could turn into a ball of flame or a turkey

The vampires of Benin (Asiman - Obayifo) could turn into a glowing ball while hunting blood from children

The Asema vampire of the west Indies would shed their skin and become a ball of blue light at night to draw blood from their victims

The Haiti (Loogaroo) and Sukuyan (Asema) vampires were supposed to have made a pact with the Devil in return for warm blood, the devil gave them the power to shed their skin and travel as a glowing ball of light while hunting

I think orbs are another name for spirits, people probably mistake a spirit or soul for a ball of energy because of how much energy they tend to give out

I think that orbs are balls of energy, and i believe that ghost and spirits have to have a lot of energy also just to get around on a daily basis and i bet that a lot of people see orbs/ghosts/spirits in their homes because they need to feed off of the peoples energy...

When someone says that orbs are not ghosts/spirits; that they only consist of energy, I say to them, "what a vaguely, redunndent statement...ghosts and spirits ARE ENERGIES! oh such silly people xD

I feel the orbs are a source of energy that is set off yet, I am not sure if it would be from a person, a spirit or even a vortex. We may not ever know yet it would be nice to find out for sure.

I think orbs are all around us but are only visable to us when they are actively doing something or at least trying to do something just like people can blend it to the back ground until they do something that makes them stand out.

I think that orbs are spirits trying to take on a form so they can be seen. I have seen them in person. Not just in pictures.

I feel that they are spirits also that are here to watch over us and guide.

As a medium and paranormal investigator, I dont believe in Orbs unless there is something SUPER special about them. 99.999% of the time they are just dust or other light annomoly (sp) I dont trust them as proof of anything.

Orbs are balls of energy, but they are spirits/ghosts. In my opinion spirits and ghosts are the energy and life force of their former selves.

i have no dust / orbs in some pictures and some i do, true it can be anything but all of the pictures that was takein in the castle was clear some had them orbs or particles what ever they are and some not

orbs are so easy to make with light, dust, etc etc that i dont put much faith into them

We have been ghost hunting for quite awhile now. I have tested different conditions to see what would show up and what wouldn't. I shook out the shade in our bedroom and dust flew everywhere. I took a picture of it and no orbs showed up at all. Not one, nor dust particles.

Orbs show up in my photos in different places and at different times. For awhile, a big, white orb would be in pictures with my middle brother. That was cool. I truly believe that they are people passed on.

Also, I read an article about digital cameras and the reason that we catch orbs easier on them is because of their special flash.

An example of how they pick up more is to look at your TV remote and push a button while looking at the sensor area with your digital camera. You cannot see the sensor light with the naked eye, but you can with the camera. It just picks it up with the way it is. I tried it and it's true.

I have taken pictures in graveyards at night and will get orbs in some shots and not in other shots around the cemetary. If it's merely dust, then it would be everywhere, not just in a shot or two, as it's in the open and that's just silly to say otherwise.

Now what they are for sure, I cannot tell, nor can anyone else really. But I personally believe that it's people that have passed on, from my personal experiences in the ghost hunting field.

I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but I heard that a single orb could be more than one spirit. It makes sense because one spirit might not have enough energy to project itself so it combines that energy with other spirits...

I think sometimes they are dust,but at other times, I believe they are spirits. When 2 separate cameras get the same orb (or orbs) in the picture,then it's the real deal to me. I have had it happen recently. I also have many dead family members, including my Father. I totally want to believe he was at the function where the pictures showed up with orbs.

That could be so. But, then again if you believe that they are spirits/ghosts (whatever you prefer) then couldn't it also be that they may be lingering by the ones that loved? I have had many photos turn out with orbs in them, so you (if you have experienced them) are not alone.

i have ssen some orbs at my school there were so cool i got them on my cell phone and also i got some recordings of them talking or trying to communicate

Orbs have been seen coming in and out of an areas of light, usually in a funnel or cone shape which is commonly called a vortex. It is possible that orbs and other spiritual phenomena have been traveling from their dimension to ours through these vortexes. It is less common for a vortex to show up in a photo than an orb, and this might be because some vortexes open and close rather quickly when only one or two orbs are present. Non believers and sceptics say that photos of orbs are nothing more than dust and water particles being taken out of focus. It is likely that many of the orb photos out there are just that. That is partly why there are so many orb photos. However, orbs that have been captured on videos floating and flying around by themselves may be a little harder to be explained.

what is a vortex

Many of our Jedi Guardians were trapped in Orbs in defence of their Masters. Vortex's would often sweep them and the Orbs away..

Many orbs caught with modern point and shoot cameras are an artifact of the flash being close the the lens and reflecting light off of dust particles near the lens.

There are many possiblities. I have people around me who conciter orbs angels and some to be spirits. I suppose it is a matter of the energy which forms them how you can tell which it is you are facing. But many people are secptical of the world over lapping with the spirit realm, or spirits being caught in between the two. You can not force people to believe....so you will always have doubters I believe who will try and logicly explain everything away.

CCD's used in modern digital cameras by their nature capture a wide spectrum of light, including infra red and some ultra violet. TV remotes use infra red light which is captured by the CCD (Charge coupled device: chip that captures light and turns it into data for storage) .

The early camcorders were able to capture infra red, but the public complained about the cameras ability to "see through" clothing. You may have seen the pictures of infra red where the photo picked up the warmer spots on a body and made them look naked. Camcorder manufactures build IR filters into the cameras now at days. On some models you can disable the filter and still take good IR pictures.

IR photography as a whole is a very interesting area. All things give off heat and make for facinating phots, even of plants and inantimate objects. You just need to find a camera, usually older ones, that don't filter out the majority of IR.

I placed some pictures of orbs in my portfolio if you care to look at some. These were taken at a local cemetary thought to be haunted.

I think that orbs are not just "balls of energy" but spirits that are protecting people. In several photos that I have from when I was younger, there are orbs that appeared around me and I think that it was a spirit there protecting me.

A team of debunkers have made good use of this topic...by using hoax application and comparing it with
with submissions from photographers.They also did "rods"and shadow people photos as well.from what i was able to read here people are giving it a fair look as a possibility that some photos are more convincing then others so if out of 100 submissions there is a criteria for notation say after scrutiny narrows it down
eliminating the altered photos and the blurry posed sightings ...then the common (but still interesting)ones you are left with maybe 15 photos that can lead an investigation group to invest interest into the area the photo was taken then other factors are considered as well,the pracess is designed to shake out the fame seekers and glory eyed people.Often dellusioned by their "everything is Para Normal...sad because one day they might see something and like the boy who cried wolf...

i think ive seen an orb.. by watching the movie called tapps were they record every thing in some ones house..

I've had some photos with "orbs" in them but I've never really taken any of them as supernatural, moreso because I didn't feel or find anything peculiar while I was taking the picture or while I was posing for the shot.

dont know what they are expet they have a close connection with ghosts.a frinds dose security at a haunted building and saw alot of orbs on the CCTV.when i given some stuff from my neibour when he died i saw one in my room a few times.
