I've never heard of anyone actually being able to do it, but shape shifting is quite prominant throughout Mohawk and Irish folk lore. Those who could do it were typically the priests of the tribes.

Shapeshifting is more about changing your consciousness to the point of taking on the attributes that you perceive in the creature of your choice rather than any true physical change. There are spells you can use to acquire this.

As far as I know, true shapeshifting is basically astral projection, only you travel in a different spiritual form. I think this is the most common form of shifting.

Of course you would have to believe in that sort of thing which I don't personally but to each their own.

Native American Shamons were able to shapeshift in certain aspects.Not like in the movies but they could do it in sweat lodges,in vision quests.

I dont really think shapeshifting as far as going from man to wolf is possible. There can , on the other hand, be severe energy fluctuations, major aura changes. So not as much a physical change but a mental and spiritual change.

Although i would love to just say "hey whats up guys" then change to a wolf and bite their faces off... ya :-)

the cloest thing to shape shifting that i know of would be someting like freezing water to make ice or boiling it to make steam

And your right you can turn into an actual physical Wolf. Though I agree that would be cool!

As I understand it, and as others have stated, shapeshifting implies an astral change, as in those who projected with the shaman, etc. would see his/her astral body as a wolf, bird, whatever, while their physical body would remain the same.

It's a bold statement, but I'll go ahead and just say it. Physical shapeshifting is impossible. Astral shapeshifting is entirely possible, and was and is commonplace for many people worldwide.

I think the idea of shape shifting is more from the movies than actuality. I believe in the possibility of psychic shape shifting rather than the body actually changing shape.Thats just too Hollywood to me.

I personally don’t believe that shape shifting is possible. I think that it makes for good stories but that is about it. I think that the day I talk to someone that can shape shift will probably be the same day that I am turned into a vampire. Just good fantasy.

Tribes long ago though they could shape-shift..but it was the drugs talkin'.

It would be fantastic if one could do it physically. But I believe it is done within the mind. Shifting your inner being. A dream state. But heck what do I know and anything is possible!

Not to be the aggessive one in this thread, but if you really think you can physically shapeshift, then you are completely mental.

I don't believe one can in "fact" shape shift, but can believe it can be done spiritually or psychically.

I think the mind is truely an incredible thing and the phrase 'mind over matter' is completely true. I think that if someone truely believes they can shift their shape, maybe not 100% but they can take on characteristics of another creature. If people can, by sheer thought alone, accomplish amazing feats of strength, why not this as well?

I am of the mind over matter school on shape shifting, It all has to do with pure will, and complete control of ones vessel. Both things are in short supply today. It can be done I am sure.

I'm afraid shapeshifting is for movies other than what's been mentioned about shamans and astral travel. It is possible to transform at the mental level. But physical change really is out of the question. Shapeshifting at the astral level is possible. And that is fun. Taking those qualities over to waking life is also possible. Attributes of your desired form definitely is a plus in physical life. The fierceness of a lion, the cunning of a wolf, etc.

Another thing I thought I would mention: it is possible that some are born with physical traits that resemble animals.

But transforming at will is a bit of a stretch.

shapshifting is a possabilty as is anything with the right no how. many ledgens start with fact for the most part it is just warped fact. look at the warwolf to simply explane it so people who dont belive and think that there is a med explantinion for all of it rabis get bit by a rabbit wolf cutract it pass it on to who ever they attack. where the hair come in i dont know maybe a blood disorder or something

I think shapeshifting takes place in the mind, with the body taking on some aspects such as the walk, the howl, the eye movement. By placing the skin of the animal you wish to become over your body it adds more of the animals magick, and amplifies the effect. However a physical change, "Werewolf of London" style, would be more than the limits of our anatomy and physiology could tolerate.

I have never actually seen someone shapeshift, nor have I ever heard that there is real evidence of it. It happens in books and in a lot of folk lore though. If I ever see it happen I'll let you know. I have trouble believing it without solid proof though.

That would be a great ability. I'd love to have it. Would also be a great learning experience in which it learn other's prospectives in their lives.

My cousin, while in South America swears he saw a Shaman turn into a python. Personally I always suspected he was a little crazy. You can tell he belives it. Got a hold of some good LSD perhaps. It's far fetched, right up there with Superman, the fantastic 4, etc.

I would have to agree with what has already been said, and the links to astral travels and dream quests. Any talk of shapeshifting that I have encountered over the years has come from friends of mine in different tribes.

To my knowledge, most shaman rituals for shapeshifting also include the use of hallucinagenics during the ritual. That's not to preclude the possibility of such a metaphysical transformation but obviously, if you're under the influence of something as strong as peyote buttons or salvia divinorum, it may be difficult to separate the real from the unreal...the magic from the hallucination.

i have read in the book called the vampire universe that there is a person call the wolf man. the man turn in to a wolf so basicly is a half man half after he shapeshift.

I think that shape shifting is possible, I mean how do we know that every animal we see isn't another being shifting into that shape? And on that note, maybe it isn't reversible?

I can see it being possible insofar as to be able to either astrally project yourself as another creature or alter your state of conscious and take on the characteristics of another creature, maybe even stoop your body to be able to walk like that creature, but for an actual human being to turn into an actual wolf or whatever...no. I don't think so.

the only reference i have, is of the native american experiences of wearing an animal skin and going into a trance while dancing, thus blending themselves with the essence of the animal.

but this is all i know, i'd love to learn more about the human side of it.

i remember back in the 80s there was this show called MANIMAL i as a kid thought it kicked ass... but the main bloke shapeshifted to a panther and some other animal i think an eagle

Shape shifting is the ability to morph your body into that of another form. It is most doable by anyone who has left all material thoughts and thoughts of sexuality behind. The mind must be pure and unfettered by worldly thoughts. Not an easy task for most.

doppelgangers are the ones who can shapeshift but they are fantasy creatures.
indians like myself who have studied under his grandfather who by many generations have studied by a shaman named Sitting Bull.
my great 5x grandfather now let me tell you something about our so called shapeshifting.

Astral projection and a state of mind is what shapeshifting is all about in this world and not of fiction. In this state, can actually soar as an eagle and run like a deer...from what people have told me, it's an amazing experience.

I have to agree - I don't believe in physical shapeshifting (mainly because I have never seen one do it) . However, it is possible to astral project into other living things.

Well since I am of avarage intelligence I believe that anything is truly possible and thatsome where there actually could be shapeshifters.
