Hey all,
Okay, I may not subscribe to the existence of vamps, per se, but for arguments sake let's go with it....In your opinion do you believe that with each vampling coming into being, they're DNA (which obviously evolves) stores and then disseminates vampiric ancestral history?
Just curious. Do they know up front that wooden stakes are bad, m'kay?
There's some genetic instincts inall beings, but as for evolving to develop new genetic intincts I would say no, perhaps others that are there but dormant may be activated.
Interesting thread, I'm really somewhat at a loss of words for a response. But... I think that due to societies stereotypes on vampires (such as the stake thing) they already somewhat know what is good and what is bad. Their senses just become heightened and they probably learn more on who/what they are as they continue their existence. As for the whole DNA thing... I'm unsure.
ok i think personaly its all how people are raised and their soul. like some if you back in threads many months ago said their were children killed because they held a vampire gene which really was a genetic defect. in my opinion its how we are raised or if we have a vmpire soul.
I believe genetics has somewhat of an effect on people, how they view things, who they are, what they believe. Just my thoughts though. I wrote something about that in my journal, about our ancestors and how important they were in who we are today.
personaly i think who we are is up to us. i think mental ilness and how we look can be pased down but not our personalitys or what we chose to be.
I think that's true. We each have our own uniqueness, however, I'm just looking at all possibilities as to what we believe as far as the occult is concerned, than how our personalities are.
Of course, I believe the way one is raised is the crux of behaviors, however, should we play with the notion that vampirism dates back farther than we could possibly pretend to know, certain eccentricities would be passed along. Just because Mom and Dad taught me how to use a knife and fork doesn't mean I can't instinctively find the jugular and sink my teeth into it for as long as required.
If all the other species of the planets are subject to evolution, then why not vampires. So I would say that I believe that their instincts would evolve with them.
i think we do get genetic characteristics like how i walk, glare at people...ect. but i think most of our personalitys we make.
Well to be frank.
Genetics in and of itself is a complete repository of all the experiences of its predecessors.
This is called evolution. What happened in the past causes changes in the future.
Of course there is not an ancestral recall....nothing conscience anyway.
So its not a big stretch to think that a being foreign to our own genetics would have a more complex structure and/or a history embedded within its own dna/rna coding.
But this is just conjecture, seeing as though vampires as i gather are a fundemental and huge difference from humans. Even if they were humans before. Not that i believe in them in a strict physical sense.
If u talking about the story book vampires..then all that would be in books. If u mean present day, real vampires..and not the ones in online games and at the movies. Then i think some of their habits are encoded in DNA.
For me, I work and am more alive and active during the night hours. i sleep better during the day. I also like my steaks rare and yes tghe sun does bother my eyes..but i don't dissolve in a pile of dust when out in it.
The wooden stake movie crap is just that..CRAP!
yes but the wooden stake movie crap was the idea that the first film character was based on a killer who killed his victims with them. n we are not talking about fictional vamps we are talking about weather it is passed down in the dna. (just so we dont get talking about movies in the threat instead of the topic)

I think that no matter what the being, genetics will always play a role. I think that if you are born a vampire by genetics then you would indeed have some sort of trait or traits from someone before you.
DNA is shared between a male and female of the same species. (with rare exception). If the pair are vamps there is a high probability the offspring will be vamps...but vampyre characteristics is another story. If photosensitivity, preference for being nocturnal, human blood addiction, variable coloured eyes, etc. are traits, then high probability to be passed onto offspring.
If considered logically then some traits would surely be passed on but I'm not sure if the person would be able to access those "genetic memories". Some might manifest on their own like photosenstivity or being more active at night than the day. But since those are also traits of regular people how can you really ever determine if they are reacting to their genetics or to what they choose for themselves.
Like everything in the physical realm there is nature and nuture. Vampirism can be passed down genitically and thus be subject to evolution, yet also be a learned behavior as well.
I believe that much of what is shown on television, movies and in books are simply myth, lore and legend. Taking this into account I do not think that the fear of a "wooden stake" would be genetically bred into a person. I do; however, believe that a person with genetic traits of a vampire has the ability to learn their abilities because of an inherent awareness of their uniqueness.
I would have to say yes. Vamps dna probably does evolve, in fact, much like human dna. Meaning the genetic code can change slightly for one person allowing for a specific change to take place. I think it would be possible for a vamps, although not all, to sense something is bad for them. Like the way a humans body can sense if rain or cold is coming.
Yes in all senselessness we do get basic animal instincts to bite or to suck from a mothers breast comes natural as genetics. though the way I was raised was catholic, but I do not believe that crosses can kill or hurt me because I have always been a bitter and had some what a thirst for blood. I also had fangs until they got chipped as in my case. I'm the only one who can not tell you for sure that vampirism come from genetics cause I'm the only one in my family
You guys are great! This has been an excellent thread. I wish I could offer another approach to vampiric Darwinism lol but it would appear it's a matter of individuality. Thing is, vampires (should they exist) are spread far and wide -- traditions and individuals vary. This is where our topic becomes complicated.
We need elders (as in many centuries old, sheeesh)
i think that it would be an inate sense that would come with them at birth!
Well wouldnt a wooden stake be bad for everybody..Human or mythalogical vampire hit someone with one of those puppies through the heart your dead. I am a psy-vamp as for genetic hand me downs I'm not sure it would apply. I don't know of any other in my immediate family that is a vamp of any kind possibly my father was but I believe he would have been a sanguine if he was.
My family never spoke of any tendancy towards this.
I do know a number of people on my moms side that had certain talents/gifts/curses depending on the persons thinking of what was going on for psychic abilities my grandmother was a precog and a touch nel she was highly uncomfortable with anyone knowing this outside of our immediate family. This might mean that my bveing a psy-vamp and needing energy is in fact an evolution of my family as a whole I again am not sure totally about that..
Be interesting to find out but my mom and her mom are dead so I can't just go and ask same thing applies with my father he is dead now...
No i think like living being. that you have to learn what is good or bad for you. You might have a slight feeling that something is good or bad. But knowing full out what will harm you and what won't i feel that it is just not possible.
Everyone has to learn these things and we are taught them as children. So if your turned when your born or turned when your an adult you still have to learn it for yourself. Or be taught by someone.
i believe it how we are raised and what we are taught is how we know things......but in a instant like that i am sure they would know that yes stakes are bad and can hurt them along with anything else that could do so........
I would think so...but I'm not a vamp so I would not really know.
Mikhail, I found your post quite interesting. I understand your points and yes even the point of a wooden stake lol as for family "secrets" I suppose we've all got some real doozies!
i agree with trissy...it is how you are raised....lol and stakes are bad for anyone ...not just vampires lol
Blood is said to contain many secrets in several religions and cultures. Everything from family histories, supernatural strength, and even immortality. Such common beliefs among different civilizations so far removed from each other should not be dismissed lightly.
wooden stakes??? why would they be bad? but realy there is nothing to pass on it is not like in the movies I live for ever.
I don't know enough about vamplings to give proof, but I think things like servivel skills are tought........but that's me.
I think that some of us that have the dna of vampires, or have been vampires in a past life will always have vampiric trates. it is a givin
ok, Genetics make up part of how you turn out but upbringing and enviroment also play a big part in how you act and even how you look.
I agree with windsorkid!!!
DNA is amazing!!! DNA is like a mini hard drive storing everything on it! Emotions, temperature, wounds, fears, taste
sound, even knowledge...............IT STORES EVERYTHING.........Did anyone know that dna is the same in everything???? We actualy have the DNA of an elephant inside of us but we dont have tusks or thick hard skin......With biotechnology though.......we can activate these DNA thingies and we will mutate. surley dead though.
Tha thing I hate though is that for this dna to be passed on to next offspring, it has only recorded the past lives and your life up to the point you fertilize something with your dna! What you see hear learn or do after remains recorded only in u.
it would make sense that a vampire child would instinctively know where the correct arteries are. but i would suspec thtat they would have to be taught how long to hold. i dont really know if the genes are passed, and if so then how.
Don't know really, but stakes don't equal death, they hold you in a paralysis.
could be possible sounds like something that needs to be looked into its possible i mean the will tosurvie isinstenctive so that could me the same kind fthing
I assume it would be possible for genetics to play a role in instinctive behavior. But, I feel for the most part genetics are really only key to physical attributes as opposed to mental knowledge and behavior patterns. I believe we are molded by those behaviors around us and what we see as right, wrong and indifferent.
In all living creatures DNA plays a large part in their physical make-up. Nurture - or how you are raised and what you are exposed to also plays a large, if not equal role.
I am not vampyric....However, if someone is going to attempt to drive a wooden stake through MY heart, I sure as hell will be afraid!
i do not think vampires hand down dna from one generation to the next, because you dont exactly hear of mythological vampires producing kids. As for modern day ones, i am not sure that i would classify my ancestors as vampires at all. I do not think there is a genetic strain that drives us to feed off of energy (or blood)...
In my family there is the belief that we do get the hand me down DNA of our ancestors and that there memories are passed down from what I can see it may not be called a vampire gene but all the women in my family have it and a few men the ones that marry in dont but the offspring do have it
No I don't believe they know their weaknesses or vice versa, I believe it is taught by the parents. As our parents teach us not to play with fire or run with scissors...I hope this answered you're question.
Ok I will take a shot at this from another point of view...
Genetics are very strong and I do know that some things are passed through DNA... My father and I are a great Expample of this. I did not meet him till I was 23 and you would think we are odd clones of each other.. I grew up in Florida and he in North Carolina so we really should be very Diff.. I was raised by my Gay mother and what every girlfriend she had at the time.. I dont share any of my mother interest but almost all of my fathers.. It very odd...
So as for your question....If you are asking about the goofie Hollywood Vampires that drink their master blood to become a vampire Sure It could be past..
yes i do belive in genetics similarities. people get some thing from their parents. they get their habbits , some diseases are also caused genetically.
With every generation, DNA changes slightly as it gets incorporated with other DNA. If vampires had offspring, I would imagine that over time, the evolution factor would kick in and you'd get vampires that are immune to silver and can actually ingest food etc. They would blend right in with society, and perhaps would even loose their trademark fangs. Once this happens, they've pretty much been absorbed into the collective society at large and will thusly become non-existent. Of course this is one possibility out of billions. There could be evolution that takes advantage of certain abilities which helps the vampire survive and in that case, it can mate and create more offspring with its similar DNA, etc. Too many possibilities to list them all here, but I think you get my point. Vampires, if they existed, would still be among us, but they would change slowly to suit their environments. :)
hmmm interesting I would say that dna may have something to do with it.
i believe that genetics is a big part of a person and of course their DNA but not sure they are born with the knowledge of it if that answers the question
Erm wooden stakes, crosses and garlic, etc. are from old horror movies ok..*lol* wow cant believe some still believe that stuff
Nope i do not believe they know to be affraid of stakes it is something they r taught or told
Well i,m the only vampire in my family, mainly cause of my night with a lady vamp 10 years ago.my parents cant understand my fascination with all things vamp.if only they new.ive managed to keep it concieled.and my ma,s a devout christian.but the garlic, crosses, holy water, silver etc is pure Crap.and anything through the heart is gonna take you out.vampire or human.
I dont think its any different than human or animal instincts. everyone has them. with age, its honed and perfected. i think the same goes for vamps.
idk about the genetics of it but if someone came at me with a wooden stake and a hammer i would be scared and run, vamp or not
I don’t know about ancestral history being passed down genetically, but I have to agree with kingreddog, stakes are pretty much bad for anybody.
I just had to double check the date of when this thread was started , and well as far as wooden stakes go.. I hear they make excellent fodder for the fire ;)
I think there are some things you know and some things that you grow to know. Will a fledgling know right off the bat that wooden stakes are bad or that sunlight may kill them? Maybe, maybe not. I haven't encountered anyone to ask that question.
Everyone is born knowing things. Things to avoid... or when a baby is born, how to breathe and cry. Those are instincts.
I feel we are all born with instincts and some form of gifts. With time like anything we grow and evolve. Things are passed down and mastered.
I've hears that many vamps here are sensitive to light and heal better than the average human being. Other then the bloody appetite they are beings just trying to survive like the rest of us, and of course evolve to be stronger beings as time passes.
I agree with hot4blood, vamps are just trying to get along and keep their race going as long as possible....
I am currently taking a class at DeVry on Psycology and just finished the Personality chapter.... It is figured that at least some of our personality is a genetic inheritance.... with that said, it is possible for a trait to be more prevailant such as the fear of snakes or spiders. But to be born a Vampire??? That is a case of classical conditioning (a learned idea or trait).
Psychology is a science and they try to figure out behaviors that stem from mental health issues. Just because there is something called psychology and they have theories and statistics doesn't make it correct.
Psychology was my major in college and some of the things I learned were totally questionable. Cognitive therapy I think is down right loony. It's combative. Didn't help me when I went under great stress with some family issues. It made things worse and finally went to talk therapy. Just an ear that was listening was fine.
I had a professor who taught marriage and the family and had a PHd in psychology even though that is a sociology class. He had been married five times. What does that tell you?
Many people believe that the vampire was either from some curse to some person in the long past, genetically engineered by an alien race (the Annunaki connection) or the Starseed theory, some fallen angels, others genertic flaw, some a V virus and others a symbiont or a spiritual thing. There is a long list. The immortality that comes up is believed for most via incarnation. Most believe in reincarnation.
As for the stake and all of that...it comes out of fiction novels. Since we are essentially human of course we know what the stake will do. It will kill you and it will kill us. Simple as that.
No, I don't believe it is genetic. I MAY be possible, but very very unlikely.
I am studying genetics in my biology class and I have huge interest in the field of genetics. I may be going to college to become a geneticist. I'm friends with my biology teacher and he is friends with this big name guy from the Wyoming College. He has a lab set up there where students work there and ALL of them have gotten full-ride scholarships. My biology teacher wants me to meet this guy so maybe in the future I can work at the lab. This guy has discovered many things in the field of genetics, including how to genetically engineer spider silk, one of the strongest substances on the planet.
Ok, now that we have my back ground, lol, here is what I believe. It MAY genetic. Believe it or not there is VERY little difference in all living things DNA. Every living thing's DNA is made of the same four things, Thymine, Adenine, Guanine, and Cytosine. It is just the order these things are in that makes us different. Which there is VERY little difference in everyone.
The sequence of these four base's codes for the amino acid that is going to be made that constructs your body. Every single base sequence has been de-coded and us humans know what chemical, or whatever it produces. Now a mutation is a screw up in the code (in a nut shell) and they are often very harmful. (sometimes they are a benefit, but not often.) PERHAPS at one point in time there was a mutation to create a chemical that makes the body have to have another’s blood to survive. But the chances of that are extremely, extremely low. And the chances of the mutation being genetic is even lower.
If vampirism does exist, I believe it is in our ethrics, not body. I believe once a vampire, you will ALWAYS be one, not just in this lifetime. But that’s not scientific at all :P
They may be born with the instincts or they may just learn.
I personally wouldint know were to start on the subject.
Uhh... I'd start with the facts :P like I did.
As I said before, we are all made out of the same things. There may be a code or a mutation that causes a chemical imbalance in the brain causing one to have to feed off blood, but as I said VERY unlikly. And when these real chemical imbalances do happen, its usually not genetic. Thus supporting the theory I had recently stated. Does nobody read these things? lol.
I believe that vampires are born not turned. Some vampires know what they are from a very young age while others may not figure it out until they are much older. And trust me - stakes are bad for everyone! Vampire or not, if someone shoves a wooden stake through your heart, it's going to kill you!
Well..maybe not everyone, let me explain..there was a bad car accident once and well he crashed into a fence and the stake (3" x 3" x 3 foot) went through his chest. He had a life saving operation in hospital and survives to this day :)
my personal opinion is that DNA is a possablity but if you look at it there is also your lifestyle if you lead life by vampiric laws then the little ones will catch on to it and as they grow the will decide for them selves which way they want to go there is a lot of different possabilities to this question but like i said that is my opinion
