Interest in vampires
The first time I was properly intrigued was when my English teacher read us the story of Dracula from memory then I read Dracula myself then the Anne rice books it has grown from there.
i remember seeing dracula in black and white when i was a childe. ever since then i needed to know about the them and how they live.
I've been studying the occult since I was about 12 years old. naturally gravitated towards vampires and other supposedly "evil" creatures.
have been interested in the occult since was young. Was threatened with suspension from school in year 8 for choosing Wicca as my religion to do a report on
I grew up across the street from a cementary on both sides...in front and the right side of my block? in New York City that was greatness I had tons of hills and grass and it became my playground. watching the black and white vamp movies was just a plus because I could pretend to be risen from the graves and out for a bite
9 Years old... I realized the power of vampires through television, movies, and books.
i've always really loved vampires but i didn't want to say because i thought people would think im wierd
but now im not ashamed of what i believe in

I honestly don't remeber, sometime before I was 5 though...this is gonna bug my now. I'm gonna rack my brain til I figure it out....

Way wayyyyyyyy back...probably 5 or so when the only books i'd check out in school were bout vampires or such. Not to mention the early nightmare days that seemed to have played a big part.
It started with Dark Shadows as a kid back in the late 60's early 70's. It's grown since then.
My interest arose from movies. Then books, including reading about Vlad Tepes.
When the opportunity presents itself I will watch any vampire movie.
It was around the time I was about 7 or 8. A friend of my parents had set up a sort of "home theater" room at his house and his brother who ran a theater in the next town would often send him a movie for a few days after it's theater run was over. (wasn't exactly legal mind you lol since he was sending him the actual studio owned movie reels meant exclusively for the theater's use).
He would invite half the town over whenever a new movie came his way and one of the first ones I remember seeing was Dracula. I saw it and just fell in love with the whole idea of vampires and wanted to learn more about them.
Of course that was in the late 60's-early 70's so that was also when I became something of a John Wayne and Sean Connery fan too lol, but that's a whole other story.
Honestly I do not know. But I think it was that I saw Interview with a vampire and I read books on Vampires. Then my fascination began.
In the 4th grade I began studying various mythologies and the vampire legends around the world were a quick favorite. As I got older the attraction continued to grow as I identified with that lifestyle more and more.
Well suppose, it sparked from having grown up in a different type of family.......grew up in an original pagan family..... even during this I was considered to be a strange child.......like no other...always there when relatives and friends were passing over......earning the nick name of Daugher of Death.......suppose at that point i realised I had some rather different senses, always feeling at home in the shadows.....talking to imaginary friends.....(according to my adoptive parents)...little did they know to me these people were and are real......just not of this world.......then again I was an adopted kid....so I suppose I didnt know my exact heritage.....
One of my first relationship I got romantically involved was an old style sanguinarian / psi Vamp .......named Drac......complete with coffin for a resting place....living in a basement in the old part of town........and for the first time I felt right at home .......
So I suppose I have always had my interests from birth.......
Oh cmon people! We're all forgetting the obvious!!!!
The Count! On Seasame Street! He rocked!
^vv^
My intrigue came from my mother. She always spoke of them and told me many different myths about Vampires. Some of the stories she told me even had to do with my ancestors.
My interest started right after meeting another vampire....Once I met another I wanted to meet more and research past, present and future
I really dont remember where I got it from but I was quite young.
i fell in love with vampires when i first saw dracula movie. with gary oldman
i think
anyway i know i was really young
ive always been draw to the dark side of life and had believed that all myths had a basis of truth somewhere...and it wasnt until that i came down with a condition at the age of 7 that i really started to read up on vampyres and such...its when i had my "awakening" that i truly understood what I truly was.
when i was lil i was scared to death of vampires... but when i got depressed and i guess turned from a cute lil girl to a creepy goth chick i thought different about the whole vampire thing...
Just something I loved from an early age. As I went through me teens I thought it was so erotic.
I would say a number of places... but mainly the old vampire movies when I was very young. There was always an interest, but it didn't turn into fasination until I came across an old book in my grandparents place when I was around 12 or 13... I forgot the name of it, was it was a collection of vamp tales. I was fairly hooked after that. ;)
i got my fascination with vampires from stories books and any other form of dictionary learning
Well, My intrest was probably struck when My Mother told me she herself had "vampire" like tendecies. Then I myself started likeing the tase of blood and whatnot. I always really had an intrest for them, wanting to learn how they were created, where they hailed from, why they are here. And so on.
When i was 5 yrs old and i started to watch horror movies i just thought they were so elegant an mystical.
I don't remember my age when i first fell in love with vampires. I think it may have began with television (Sad i know) Maybe lost boys? I became fascinated with every aspect of the vampiric lifestyle and everything it entailed.
Legacy of Kain games, and vampire books, along with a little roleplaying...
no idea i woke up one day like two years ago i woke up and was like VampirES!
well i think it was when i found out about the site vampirefreaks then i got more into it when i dated my ex since he like do act like one a lot
well i think it was when i found out about the site vampirefreaks then i got more into it when i dated my ex since he like do act like one a lot
I began reading books on vampires/werewolves/witches/banshees/ etc. around 5th grade.
I've always had an obsession with vampire as well s other creatures of the night, however it was not untill my awakening around the age of 13 that the love for them was reborn as i now understood why it was i was drawn to them
First time I watched Dark Shadows...I immediately attracted to vampires and such.
I have been intrigued since I was a child. I remember Vampire movies being the one thing I wasnt afraid of. Then hitting my early teens and dabling in the occult made me more fascinated. We were like the goths in high school before we ever even heard of that word... I just aged myself ..
I was about ten when I first fell in love with Vampires. I watched a movie and then I became obsessed (not as bad as it is now) Isnt it lovely how a ten year old can be obsessed with a beautiful dark creature?
I first watched the movie Bram Stoker's Dracula then I studied vampires more.
The day I realized I would burn in hell, Nov. 2 1990 2:00 p.m.
You ask any 6 year old "what is a vampire?" and I bet they will be able to tell you. Since about that age I have been facinated with them. I remember watching 'dark shadows' with my mom, vampire movies ( to many of them to list, but I remember thinking Frank Langella was very sexy.), books, Halloween costumes, and yes even the count from seasame street. They have always been something I was interested in.
Mine came first from my love of Bats and all things Samhain/Halloween. Then as I became an adult I as drawn to all the myths of vampires. When my son was about 17 I realized he probably was one and my interests became more than just academic. And lastly I have dated on off and on for a couple of years now. Seems to be a progression here in my interests. LOL
vampirism has always been apart of my life. even if i wasnt consious about it. especially considering when our house caught on fire and they told my grandma they couldnt save my sister. they said it was to bad to go in their, she was gone. my grandma went in their and got her out without a scratch or a burn.
i first got introduced through movies and found them fascinating. then i read books and studied this and that
I got mine when I was three, and saw my very first vampire movie!!! The LOst Boys!!! Ever since then, I've been in love with them!
i`ve always been fascinated about them... i gues from movies, storyes...etc
I think I have always been into vamps since the concept was introduced to me as a kid.
I remember watching the old movies of vampires when i was a little child and I have been interested in them ever since
it wasnt a facination with vampires, but a facination with blood, and blood diseases, that lead me to what i consider a mild obssession. hehehe. when i was younger, maybe four or five, i always thought that if something was wrong wiht your blood, then that was as bad as it got. when i got a little older, maybe 7 or 8, i began doing reasearch on leukemia, just to get some info, and my mom looked in and said something about me being a little vampire because of my preocupation with blood. hehehe. then i watched some movies, read the Rice books, and now i am hooked.
i fell in love with anne rice's take on vampires...she portrays them as characters not just as the bloodsucking villians and really gives her readers the chance to get to know the vampires. they are not just monsters...they are human in their own way and she shows that.
When it came out, I refused to watch 'Interview with a Vampire' because it had Brad Pitt in it. I was about 6 at the time and wasn't into "pretty boys." When I was about 11 or 12, I stumbled upon the scene with Lestat and the prostitute while flipping through channels, and here I am.
The Cap'n
since I was like five my mom had bought me some of anne rices work and I loved it when I got older and I started researching differnt things yeah that is it ! lol
I have always had an interest in vampires.....I remember trying to convince one of my classmates, when I was in kindergarten, that I was a vampire....
i became interested in vampires when my sister got me to go see interview with the vampire
Probably when I watched "The Craft" ... it had absolutely nothing to do with Vampires, but it opened up a whole new world of "Dark" for me.
And I loved it.
I honestly do not recall what sparked my interest. It seems as if I have always been intrigued. My parents are not at all interested in anything like vampires, witchcraft or similar things so I was never really exposed to much about them until I was about 12-13 but I have been interested in paranormal, occult, "dark" things since long before that.
books, movies..........i started having a strong intrest when i was 16.
Have always hung around vamps, with a psychic for a mother, who couldn't?
Studied the occult since the age of 8, and was led along this particular interest by close friends of mine and the likes.
Books, articles, movies have all given me a laugh now and then. The people, those on the net, selectively, have been a great link to exploring exactly what makes us what we are.
Of course, I realise not all hold this view, but they are welcome nonetheless.

I remember seeing Interview with a Vampire when it first came out in the movies. After I watched it I had this overwhelming feeling to understand more about the occult and vampirism.
I loved them since I was about 10 years old. I started watching old Bela Lugosi movies and then just about every version of Dracula since then.
Actually a friend of mine introduced me to Vampires. She lent me Anne Rice books, and then I began researching them and watching Vampiric movies.
I all ways had an interest but I read some books when I was ten or eleven and I was hooked.

As far back as I can remember I have always been interested in all things like this.
I don't read books, I've seen very few vampire movies and don't watch the tv shows cause I think they're silly (no offence), I got my interest in vampires from before I knew what they were, I used to draw pictures of bloodsucking people with fangs from the time i could draw a basic stick figure :p I was a weird child, always played vampire games with my dolls, dreamed about them and drew them, for years... bah I dunno I've always had a deep inner interest :)
It was watching the old Hammer Vampire movies on TV when I was in my early teens.
since i was young...around 6 or 7..i lived in romania and they had this dracula show on...i fell in love with vampires then....so happy i did :)
Read Bram Stokers Dracula at age 12...been thirsting for more since...
this is a good thought provoking question synthetic.kudos for asking it..... but the honest answer is i can't quite remember when i realized it ..i believe its always been there,,the interest that is ,it just kinda sparked up rather significantly as i got older ..and the rest is as they say history ..but since a early age ive always been interested and loved vampires no denying it at all!
i think the first time for an intrest for me was lost boys... then from there i get the feeling that i should embrace it more... and here we are.
my parents were always watching horror movies and getting to see stuff like lostboys and dracula and all got me started, plus my mom had an interest in the occult so it went on to me. I haven't pursued it much lately but am still interested in it
well,
since i started reading and grew interest with novels...all of em I could find... Salems Lot, Dracula, etc, then came movies, then the more modern vamp novels....this tended to piss off my mom tho.... since my change in lifestyle recently (last year or so) my interest is more.....personal..........
I honestly can't recall when I gained interest in vampires. More than likely it was through a movie I saw when I was little and I've just loved anything vampire related since.
When I first saw Bram Stoker's Dracula the movie and reading a book called "Look For Me By Moonlight" when I was in jr high school.
sounds odd but wen i seen dracula dead and lovin it, then i started watchin more vampire movies must of been about 6 or 7
xx
I became interested when I was very young.. as a child I watch often the little vampire ° so cute ° and later I watch movies like queen of the damned and interview with a vampire.. and I read a lot about it.. so I became more and more interested.. I´m still are :)
I always like vampires as far back as I can remember. But when I really started obsessing about them was when I was 4 and I was Dracula for Halloween (my favorite holiday). It was awesome!
when i was young me and my dad use to stay up later and watch old black and white movies...one night we watched "Nosferatu"..ever sinc e Ive been in love...>
I got my whole fascinationwith vampires when I was like 4 when my sister was reading me the story of dracula and showing me the pictures that were on the cover the women were so beautiful to me thatand I love the dark places in life never cared for pretty clothing or frilly girlie things loved to bite people when I was young and drawing blood sucking my own blood when I had fresh wounds was always a fun time and then I got into cutting so I can taste my blood and another friend of mines I miss her taste ~Amelia
From the time I was told they were bad...I am a rebel...LOL...
I don't know where I first gained my intrest..all I know is that for as long as I can remember I have like vampires and the idea of vampires...it was put in my mind at in early age
I've always been fascinated by all types of horror movies....eventually gravitated towards vampires specifically.....although I do have a thing for werewolves as well...
movies, then the history, then the books, then everything else
I just always seemed to be interested in vampires. I had the facination before reading books or seeing any movies. It seems like for as long as I can remember I have thought of them and wondered about my own "symptoms" of possibly being one.
when I was young there was a show on TV Sir Graves Ghastly...he was a vampire host that would show horror movies every weekend....I loved Dracula and the Wolfman all my life
I started to write a story about a vampire when I was about 15. While researching vampires, I got increadably interested in Role Play...
I have always loved anything dark or evil, I always dressed as a vampire for Halloween. So I would say it started when I was 5 or 6. And now my 6 yr old is following in my shoes.
I don't know if anybody has heard of an old children's series called the halarious house of frankenstein....aside from the count....I really loved the wolfman.... he was a dj....he would always play some cool songs...especially jumping jack flash....and vincent price... RIP....was always telling some dark short stories....it was great....I really wish they would retelevise it
From online. I was reading something about Christianity for a report and I found out about them. So, when I was about 10. (Yes, I was quite a sheltered child)
I've been intruigued by them since I was about 3. My dad had always loved halloween, so did elaborate decorations. He had a few vampire/dracula ones, and I was facinated by them. I asked him about them, and he told me that they were beautiful creatures of the night that drank blood. He said they didn't kill, just ate their fill and left the donor thinking they had just been kissed by this handsome creature. He used different words, but that was basically the jist of what he said. I adored them from then on...
my sister and i used to role-play a lot (we had few toys and a lot of imagination)...anywho...i remember one time my sister had to have been like three making me about 6.... we were playing this game and she was a vampire and i got bitten....she actully drew blood... my mom flipped.... then last year my ex showed me this site and my interest was renewed
I've always been interested in vampires, ever since i can remember, as a little girl i would read up on horror stories with vampires, I love all mythology :) and I began to be obssessed with vampires as i grew older than i read the vampire chronicles by anne rice :)
I saw The Lost Boys when it first came out. I was 4 or 5 at the time. Ever since then I had a deep interest. My interest waned when I was about 12, but thanks to the WWF's Vampire character Gangrel, my interest was reborn.
My interest seems to have always been there. I don't remember ever not having it.
I like the style of vampires, the way the dress, music and the dark scene. That is why i started to read more about them.
When I was learning energy manipulation, I had a friend who especially liked to practice the vampirism aspect of it. I guess it got me wondering. I read more, bought the psychic vampire codex, and just got more and more into it. From a more informed standpoint, I started to dislike anyone who claimed to be a vamp simply because they like the lifestyle. I'm not a vampire, but I practice the skills, and vampires are the best people to learn from.
when i was 5.. i forgot where.. but ever since then i started reading up on them and read all the anne rice books...
5 maybe younger. I grew up on vampire movies and the like
I think it was the first time I heard of dracula. Then I watched the old dracula movies & I loved it. my interest has grown since then.
To be honest, I can't remember...Maybe when I heard about the concept, I found it fascinating. I remember liking this kind of things since I was a child, also due to the environement I was raised in, where this kind of subject was openly spoken by one side of my family. Not only vampires (I think I was the one with the fascination for them), but all that was unexplicable.
Later on, something happen in my life that made me relate to vampirism, and that contributed a lot for my interest in them, aside from the books, and the movies, and the tales.
i alway had a thing for some thing that can live forever
Hard to say, when I was a little child already... Contrary to to other kids who were interested in barbies/Lego and scared of the dark side of life.
i knwo a nine year old who's parents are very upset that she likes vampries so much
mine was a natural progression. The occult/fantasy world has always fascinated me, Vampires are just one part of that.
bleh.. how many times have we discussed Anne Rice and Dracula.. lets try something different for a change!
