ok, dont get me wrong, fangs are sexy. but its not what signifies all vampires. there are others. i used to love fangs, but once i learned of the others, fangs seem over used.

The fangs, while lovely and quite useful, are overused.

i think fangs are good when used to signify your interest in vampyres or for a costume or something but i agree that they are over used...and the interest in vampires to some people is very superficial which can be annoying....

They are just part of the costume not the costume.What I mean is wear them for fun,it's nice,but incredibly enough some think that by wearing them they become vampires or just because they have strange cunnings they are one -_-

very. most vamps dont use fangs, they use razors or something similar. and most that are made look fake anyways. the stereo-type of vampires with fangs is extremely over used, and thank you for agreeing.

I agree with you all that fangs are overused... I think fangs are hollywood's image of a vampire... that's most people's idea of the vampire. I think that fangs definately essential to a vampire and are needed, but overused...Yes...I love fangs however.

however, natural fangs are just natural. but those that have them and automatically assume that they are vampyres, can be wrong.

I kinda like fangs, in the way that I think they are esthetically appealing (in other words: sexy). But I agree that it can be a bit laughable if people do it because they seriously want to be a vampire and do it to make themselves appear to be one. A couple of fake fangs doesn't make anyone a vampire.

Fangs can be sexy, yes, but personally, its that look in the eyes that nothing can beat to me.. Throw the fangs away, I want to see passion in the eyes..

When going for a more theatrical look--- yes, fangs are a bit overused. Howeever a close-mouthed vampire is just as captivating as an open mouthed one.

There's also the mystique of trying to blend in-- but not entirely. Also the use of jewelry makeup and other such niceties.

Yeah...People going around flashing their newly aquired fangs is not particularly impressive or hot. If one is to have fangs, it has to be somewhat discreet and classy. Not everyone can pull it off.

I think fangs are sexy on the RIGHT person, on some, they just look tacky.

Aye, tis true that fangs are overused. Some think that the fangs are the only thing that visably makes Vampires different from humans. So that is what they do, try to use fangs to make a costume, and such. There is much more to it than that aye.. but even I wear fangs from time to time.

In my opinion, the usage of fake fangs and archaic clothing takes away from the beauty of authentic vampirism. Instead of seeing it as a true dark culture, it is passed off as a mere novelty.

Some of these fangs people wear just look so fake that you can't help but laugh. I am 39 years old & thankfully we don't have to use fangs to feed since most of my teeth are gone.

I feel like fangs are over rated. yeah for the aesthetics I agree they look cool. But what are you really trying to project by wearing them. They are a costume. I know a few people that have had them surgically put in.. they have to live with that even if later on they decide they no longer want them. of course they can always get them filed down.. but why bother if you already paid the high price to get them put in. They look cool.. but they dont make you cool if you wear them.

Geez, people. Can't you just have some fun? Of course, the standard fangs you buy at your local goth-shop suck. I'd say if somebody decides to wear fangs, they should look as real as can be. Try dnash. Expensive, yes. But therefore nobody has ever asked if I was wearing fake teeth when I did. I very much enjoy the looks on people's faces. I know they're wondering and I like the way they try to ignore it. It's subtle, but it's there.

thats another thing, why make something so expensive? i mean, its teeth! you can buy a desent pair of fangs for $15 that last quite awhile. i agree will all, and what michen says is true, yea fangs are extremely overused, but around here in utah, its frucked halirious to see the looks on peoples faces when you smile and wave at them and you flash the kanines. but to pay a shit load for something so small, you could buy a year supply of good cheapies and filling for them to for that price. i have had a pair of cheap hot topic ones for a year before and all i had to do was clean them and replace the acrlic in them. that was it, and that cost me about roughly 20 bucks.

If you want fangs, get them...I don't think they'll be useful to feed with...For they are only caps and would probably break before the skin would...I looked into getting some caps but I decided not to because I like the effect of razors...

I've never really been into the whole fangs thing. You're right, there are many other things soo much better than fangs. Fangs seem to me to be a cheap way of expressing it, very cheap indeed because of the hollywood aspect. Since vampire movies became popular, kids walk around with plastic fangs in their mouths, who wants to guess if they're truly vampires or not?

ok so last year, there was a guy in my color theory class that walked in wearing fake fangs. they were so incredibly inappropriate and horrible looking that i died laughing on the spot. come on, people, sometimes, yes, they're hot. and the kid didn't look *bad* in them, but there's a time and a place. and that place is *not* in a college classroom. get my drift?

I unfortunatly had my fangs removed when I was young (mothers descision)...yes I had fangs,they were not long but they were definate fangs!

I believe that fangs are overrated and that to many people wear them just as a way of uptaining attention from others or to scary people into thinking that they are really vampires.

I agree with the last person to post..But I like fangs, and it is not just to scare people or make myself look like a real mythical vampire..I like the way they fit in my mouth and how you can drain a can of soda with them...lol

As it's been said before, fangs can be over used. And again as it's been stated, something I agree with, is that on the right person, fangs can be quite sexy and pleasing. There are those (such as a bf of mine), who have them dentally 'implanted' as it were or permanently placed and with the right size of fang, can pull off the look, when they want it to be known, but also it's not something people can detect unless they smile a certain way.

Fangs to me are aesthetically pleasing, but everything has its place, and a college classroom like some said isn't that place, unless the individual wishes to do it for shock value (Marilyn Manson-esque impersonation almost).

Us true vampires truly have no need for fake fangs unless theres a costume party we wish to go to and we wish to play into Hollywood's stereotypes.

I have never used fangs unless at a fancy dress, i prefer to see them in the flicks. Im afraid im one of the fickle females who finds anyone wearing fangs slightly pathetic. Plus the though of anyone trying to feed by teeth alone would make me run for the hills. It hurts.

Yes ive had a run in a few time with ppl that said that i have fngs so i must be a vampire, to which i responded well yes i am a vampire how this is not defined by my fangs as they are mearly tools of the trade and not a defining feature. I then wnet on to informed them of the reasons why I not only belive in my vampiric herritage but also the reasons that i Know this

Fangs are cool if used for intimidation or in my case, a musician, using them as part of an onstage persona....they can be great for attracting interested people as a conversation starter, to introduce them to vampirism....

i agree fangs are way overused. fake fangs look stupid half the time. if ur goin to a costume party fine. but other than than let them in movies.

Good post :-). For most to have fangs they cost a fortune. I myself am poor, so i have silly fangs that I got in Salem. However i only use them for costume. Plus it might give my Mother a heart attack lol.. So I personally do not see the necessity for them..

There is little doubt as to the cliche' nature of the traditional fangs. Though with functional use, the extending fangs are not what people believe them to be nor as common as many would think.

Some people's incarnations purposely go for the family lines that appear to have elongated canines.

One of mine are sharp, on my more spiritual side of my body. Otherwise, they're rather small, natural, human.

While fangs might be seen as cliche or overused, I like mine. They make things easier. The nostalgia of a vampire confronting her/his prey with bared fangs is something I enjoy. Then again, to each his own I suppose.

Fangs have been used by ppl as a costume for halloween and yes to look cool and they don't even know anything about them or the real people such as us who were born to have them.

As a child I had unusual long and pointy fangs, when I was 7 I had to have them dentically shortened after I fell and my right fang pierced through my upper lip. In kindergarten you might guess what my nickname was from that day on ;P

From the evolutionary point of view fangs might not be necessary anymore but I think they're pretty sexy after all ^^

Cliche, over used? Yes, I will agree to these statements, But those that have honest, real fangs have them. Don't put those people down for it. But people that pay for the permanent caps or sharpen their teeth, I just find sad. I used to have natural fangs(seriously), but my step-father had my dentist round them off(for the reason that if he didn't, I would scar my tongue. I'll try to find a few pics fo verify this(which is hard, my mom has them and my step-dad hates me, not to mention most pics took of me have closed mouth smiles.)

fangs... they are beautiful... they look great and the feeling of sharp weapons in your mouth is amazing, but as it was said before they are overused and its kind of sad.. i had fangs for long years and never wore them in public... i didnt even wear them when i met other vampires... the only reason to wear fangs was to feed.. ta least it was for me like this... its a lot easier and more painless if you use fangs for biting..

Where fangs can be fun, I think that they're more of the stereotype than actual neccessity.

They can be quite charming if subtle though.

My canines are naturally a bit longer than the rest of my teeth. Generally it's more of a nuisance than anything else. I have a clear retainer from when I got my braces off, and it slightly resembles those fake fangs you can get around Halloween, if you look at it.

Fangs are beautiful, but a definite cliche. When I told a photographer that I was a member of Vampire Rave, he and his assistant then asked me about my bottom teeth- if they were fake or sharpened! All because they appear extremely sharp... but they're my natural teeth, and they asked about my fiance, his teeth and I shared with them that he appears to have sharp teeth to. if that's what they were getting at. I wasn't too upset because I have people asking me things like that often, but.... woah!

and yes I do love the look of fangs, and the feel of my fiance's teeth on me.

Yes I agree they are over used. I'll bet that over fifty percent of the ones who wear fangs would never use them for what we are supposed to use them for. It makes me kinda sick. When my fangs come out trust me, it's because I'm thirsty.

I think it all depends on why some one weirs them and how often. If some one does it to show off or to impress a girl/guy then I feel they are out of place and trying to fit into some one else’s culture (poser)

depends on the types of fangs.... you can find so many different ones these day its hard to say.... they are slightly over used but how can you blame... they're pretty frickin bad ass... having teeth like that makes eating meat so much more simple.

While I do think that they are over-used by the ignorant majority, I do also feel that those who use them as a part of an outfit, or in certain feeding and / or sex related activities, usually are able to carry off the look.

I find fangs on a dark woman highly erotic and as has been said, it depends on the quality and the reasoning behind why a person wears them.

I use my fangs most of the month of October in and out of school. But to walk around with them everyday all day is a little no actually WAY over using them. I wear them sometimes to show my interest but just because you may be a vampire does not mean you must have fangs

Fangs are over used...i love them...but they are overused....there is a time and a place to wear them...i personally use them in sexual scenarios and that ...is the right time and right place...

Fangs are very much overused, it is ok to wear them for costume, and sometimes just for the hell of it but there are more interesting things that come with being a vampire, not just the biting and bloodsucking. Many more things and to truely understand the concept of a vampire and such things as that, you need to set the idealistic thing with fangs and do actual research. Not just imagine what it would be like to suck the life out of ones body.

Again, I agree with the general consensus. Fangs are overused. It's become the Hollywood symbol for the Vampire lifestyle. Some feed off emotions and energy, so why the need for fangs, except to symbolize what you are. They look impressive and show at first glance an obvious lifestyle, but aren't necessary to actually LIVE the lifestyle.

VampyersKss, I so agree with you there....sometimes for a photo shoot, or gatherings or time to feed, fangs are just the right thing.... Having the attitude and demeanor goes along way without the fangs.

i've never been a big fan of fangs. I've always thought of a person wearing them as being a bit "overdone". class and charm will win me over anyday rather than "wow he's got fangs".

and besides, after seeing monty python's "the search for the holy grail" so many times.. anytime somebody mentions fangs i remember the killer bunny. lol

I have natural fangs they just seem to get in the way sometimes. Some of the people I do bite don't like the marks to be left on their bodies. This makes things very difficult, but oh well don't give me your neck then if you don't want marks left.
Fangs are no longer nessecary for feeding, but some like the look of them. I'd rather take energy than take blood.

Vampire fangs are definitely a cliche. In fact, I used it yesterday when I was visiting with my sister and brother-in-law. He has really sharp canines, sharper than most people's, and I caught myself saying "Hey, you've got vampire fangs!" I didn't mean that he was literally a vampire, just using the analogy because so many people(including myself) refer real sharp canine teeth on humans as being vampire teeth.

although they are overused and cliche fangs are a part of life...and most vampires i know use fangs because its much more convienient than carrying blades...only one of my vampiric friends doesnt use fangs that i know of and thats because she uses her nails...which i found rather funny because it reminded me of drusilla...anyway...i just think that they shouldnt be discouraged because otherwise biting would be much more painful for the bite-e

It is, our, the peoples, means in reaching or grasping the thought that THEY (or WE) are vampires. By, wearing fangs, we have this feeling or (Whatever) sensation that we have achieved something close to the real thing.

A formal set of fangs are impressive for community events, or good rp scening but definately doesnt define who we are. With or without fangs that cannot be taken from us.

for fangs to work, with a human mouth, they'd have to be pretty long... or your jaw would have to unhinge like a snake's. but i think they are sexy, just the way messy eyeliner is on the right eyes, or combat boots below a pleated skirt: it's just sexy and part of the whole get up. or another way of looking at it is that the fangs are representative of the vamp inside. they also remind me what i realized when i first got my fangs - my kitties bite because they CAN. ;)

Personally, I tend to wear them because I miss my real ones. My mother made me get them taken out when I was young. (Yes, my eye-teeth came in as true fangs) In fact, those were the teeth I was born with! (Cliche? naaaahhhh...) But seriously, I do miss them. In fact, it sometimes hurts NOT to wear them! Sometimes I can still feel the echo of where they once were...

yes though some people use the fangs entirely too much. I for one love the fangs and find them extremely attractive. just cause some moron wears them to think they are cool alot of people wear them for reasons unknown to anyone i like to bite and be bitten during the act of intercouse and the fangs help me out to get that perfect feeling i desire during that .
