In your opinion what makes a vampire nocturnal? Is it simply the lore of sunlight can kill a vampire, they prefer the dark, or perhaps is it even maybe that night is the easiest and less noticed time to take a victim? If they are truley nocturnal then how is it possible in todays times that a vampire be able to come out during the day. ( I have read of many claimed vampires on this site alone that say they love the daylight). Please share and discuss your input. :)
I personally believe that vampires do not have to be nocturnal but received the title of night walkers simply because night is a better time to prey upon a victim less noticed.
I think they prefer night cos there are more shadows to lurk in and are less conspicuous
well i dont like being out in the day too much ,but i can go out ,but night time and darkness make me feel mor alive
the day time is to bright up here @ its worse ,it snows all the time. I hate it. It hurts my eyes all the time, I feel like i'm glowing, The nite time @ in the shadow is the only way i can live.
Cursed:
I believe as you do.
There is nothing that prevents vampires from venturing into the daylight. They will not vaporize when a beam of sulight hits them.
The association with the night is likely due to the ease of remaining hidded during the time of darkness.
I think its the thrill of feeding or coming to people in their sleep...the sun thing is a myth....hell vamps are myths so who knows
It may be that the night hides and a lot of predators hunt at night. I found my wife during the night.
I know the sun hurts my skin and i prefer dark cloudy days..Am I livin in the wrong state or what. but thats another story
I feel more alive at night time, and you can watch (lurk lol) ppl without them noticing
I do not feel that vampires are ONLY able to come out at night. I think those of us that consider ourselves of the night realm merely choose do so simply because the darkness befits our moods better than the bright light of day.
As for myself, I simply detest sunlight because I prefer not to be noticed. The darkness allows for that much more easily.
I agree that nothing prevents a Vampire from enjoying the daylight.
I think it just sounds good to say that.
I am not a Vampire but I definately enjoy the night more than the daylight simply because I have sensitive skin and actually do burn very easily. Besides I don't like the heat I prefer winter weather then venturing out during the day is fun for me.
I have always been a nocturnal individual; I've just always felt more comfortable and more at ease during the evening and nighttime. It is true that I burn in sunlight very easily, but this is due to a very fair complexion. Nevertheless it makes full exposure to sunlight uncomfortable quickly for me.
I believe that they recieved the name night walkers simply because of the simple fact that they can get their prey so much easier.
I do not believe there is any reason other than personal ones for "vampires" to choose the nighttime. It's the time when most parties and social gatherings occur that could be part of the reason. Then there are some of us who just feel more awake and alive at night.
I think that there nocturnal for many reasons one being that it is easier to find food at night and two because a long time ago vampires may not have been able to be out in sunlight. Every myth has a bit of truth so maybe they evolved to the sun but kept the night liffe.
I don't really beleive that sunlight can kill a vampire like those bastards in Hollywood make it out to be like. Weaker, yes. I also agree with the idea that vampires prefer the night, not only as it makes for easier hunting, but I, for one, enjoy the solidity, solitude, the overall feeling that the dark has to offer.
After reading everyones responces I will say that I agree with the majority that vampires are not forced to be nocturnal, but more of a personal preference.
I think most of us here on this site enjoy the night more than the day
Vampyres only come out at night untrue!
Vampyres like any other person live in this world and must make a living.
Yes most of us would choose to only come out at night, because of what the night holds in it, but we must hold down jobs.
It is true that the sun can be painful do to the fact that we are sensitive to the Ultra-Violet radiation the sun gives off.
In order to go out in the daylight we must not expose our selves to, to much of it. but to say it will kill us no I think that is bullshit.
i think that a vampire unable to come out into the light was fabricated by hollywood. and the reason they would do this is so the immortal vampires would have a weekness. especially since all movies have to end up turning out good or the bad guys getting killed(which i truely hate, and i wish the bad guys would sometimes win) they needed the vampires to have a few weaknesses. and what better 1 would be fear of the sunlight
Personally speaking, I just prefer the night time. The sunlight does bother my eyes, I have always been a little sensitive to it. But I don't dismiss that as a vampiric quality per se. It's just how I am.
Most vampires enjoy the night vs the day, but I'm sure there are plenty of vampires that are sun worshippers.
I don't believe that vampires can only come out at night. I definitely prefer the night. I really can't tell you why. All I know is that I have always felt more alive at night. I get up during the day, only when I have to. Other than that, I do most everything else at night including my work.
Preference to the night because of yes the shadows, places dark enough to lurk and stalk around. and personally night time is just good to have a little fun where no-one can see... though they may still walk in the day.. night would be mainly preferred.
I would say it's only because they can take a victim easier.
I think its because of the night-time prey too,
its easier, no one can see you in the darkness
I believe that they are called night walkers becuase vampires can take victims and stay hidden in the night
i have to agree with everyone else, it is much easier to lurk in a shadow to await your prey then to hunt during broad daylight
Myth, legend, lore, and Hollywood/novels have the vampire a nocturnal creature... we all have our own preferences for daylight and the evening. But for those wishing to prey on others, then the darkness and nighttime are the preferred hunting times - alot easier than the day time.
I think its just because of the fact that UV can kill them.
I personally prefer night because mornings are a horrible invention and should be against the law. LOL
No, seriously, I think that night dwellers simply are. There's no real reason, it's just what they prefer.
If you are talking about fictional or mythical vampires, then of course the lore of being burned to death by sunlight has a lot to do with it.
In an opinion based answer to your question I would say that this was simply a myth because more attacks seemed to happen at night when people were more suceptible. However, in today's society as you have pointed out individuals are much more aware that vampires are not simply creatures of the night. In fact, day light has no adverse affects on them. This could have simply been a natural evolutionary progression though.
For me the night calls to me and the moon bathes me and i feel so much more alive and accepted and loved at night its MY world at night. I also i think that i have a animalistic call to me to be out at night my eyes can't handle a LOT of light and i'm drained during the day but during the night i can run jump and forlic with ease. Its just when i'm alive and not sooo damn drained. i dunno maybe i'm just a crazy girl ha ha
love dara
I think that u can come out either time but at night u can go less noticed.
Some people are just having eyes who are sensitive to light, and daylight may be too... luminous for them... it's a common "feature" with the nowadays people, I wonder If it isn't the computer screens fault :p
Lets face it at night the unusual and the different seem more normal, harder to spot cause everybody looks the same under streetlights, unless you are up close and personal.... During the day even being tall can make you look out of place.... I personally hate the daylight but i do what i have to, i fell safer and more comfortable at night..... but maybe thats just me!
[To expand a bit my previous message]
Nowadays, it doesn't chock anyone when you say you have a night-time job or something like that, but how could vampires survive in middle ages or even in the renaissance... It would be too suspicious if they hid inside their home all day, waiting for the night to come before going out...
It's definitley just a myth for me, like garlic...
I think that night time is best like you said it's easier to hunt. But, I also believe that being we have to live a parshly human life we, over time adapted to the sunlight, which helps in the people hunting us to have less suspision. But that's just me.=)
I think its just personal preference...I've met vamps that like daytime and non-vamps that prefer night..It's all in the individual.
It might be a bit of both....most vampires feel more alive, more energy at night. I agree that its easier to hunt your prey at night, less noticable. But I don't believe they are damned to the night.
Night is more comforting... Energy levels seem to be higher..... Most just seem to fit in better in the darkness.
We are able to move around and not be seen as much. But there is also the fact that we feel more alive at night and its not so bright.
on this im really not sure. to what i am thinking im thinking that nighttime is a better time to blend in with the economy and with what you were saying that its easier to take prey that way, but maybe they are not nocturnal. maybe it is just another myth that is used and played out by writers and producers. night time gives of a darker essence, those whoe came up with vampires being nocturnal most likely thought to themselves that night time suits vampires better because its dark, things go bump in the night so to say.
Katye
Personally, i think it's just our internal time clock.I believe centuries ago, it came to be as this was the safest time to hunt or be safe.Like other creatures of the night, it suits their body and their needs.
Agree's with Kristianathevamp...I think my personal prefrence is the night I love darkness....
i don't actually call myself a vampire. the word does not sit easy with me, but i do prefer to call myself nightkin. i love the night - always have. as a child i always felt more alive at night. i'm not sure why. i love to watch a sunset, but hate to see it rise. the night is full of mystery, romance, and fantasy. the day is just full of the mundane, noise, and harshness. a sunrise does not signify the beginning of a new day to me, but an ending of the previous one.
to summarise - its just a frame of mind - a psychological thing.
ima vampire lover, i love the night time, more then the day. the day hurts my eyes and the night in my view is peaceful and relaxing to me. the night time comforts me. my mother told me i was never afraid of the dark when i was little. she lost me once when i was five. i was looking for my kittie that went outside and hadnt come back. i just ran out into the night and searched for my cat. to this day i love the night still. I tend to sit and swing with my cd player turned on and the music blaring. its gives me comfort because then i can come up with new plots and storylines for my stories and poetry.
i think to a degree it is just a stereo type that vampires only come out at night. while many on this site seem to feel more comfortable at night, i don't think it is choice of necessity. We can walk in the day just as in the night.
Sunlight causes wrinkles, which makes for a very unattractive toreador after a hundred years... LOL.
--- just kidding ---
I believe that if one choses to be nocturnal could have something to do with the protectiveness of the darkness.
Not many people know what's in the shadows unless they venture closer.
Me personally, I feel more at ease and aware of my surroundings at night.
I believe it is a persoanl option. Some people are jsutnatually more comfy at night. I know I am.. form what i have heard even as a baby I slept better during the day and tended to be up all night lol. But I believe the lore came from vampires were supposed to be all the is evil.. and sunlight has offten been the symbol of Gods power so it makes sence that it would destroy them.
I'm not a vamp but even us wolves prefer hunting at night. If you look at most of the successful large predaters, we hunt at night. It's cooler, and more prey, and unsuspecting prey too. I believe vamps choose the night because it would be more convienant, cooler, and more prey oppurtunites too.
I prefer the night personaly for several reasons the sun burns my eyes severely and makes me feel very sick if I am out in it for too long ..I see very well at night and can slip through the darkness ..I feel at ease in the dark it is my home..
Darkness is my preference, but I can and will go out during the day. Each time I wake up to deal with the day, I have the compulsion to continue resting......... for the night is my day and the day is my night.
I will go to bed when it is night time, as being up during the day will tire me out. The night lifts me up, darkness is a blanket or silk cloak which I wrap around myself to feel safe and secure, and content.
The daylight may not be my preferred or natural time, but it is a necessary evil.
Before the light there was darkness. The spirit of the vampyre, not the shell they inhabit, was borne before the light, and so prefers to dwell there.
The vampyre shell is sensitive to light from the Sun, as it is inhabited by one who finds the ultraviolet spectrum irritating.
I don't think it's that vampires can't go out in the day! They just prefer the night! Some cause of there skin or eyes being sensitive! Me personally my eyes are extremely sensitive! I can't sleep at night, but I sleep wonderful in the day time! I feel more relaxed at night & more on edge in the day time!
well if you go by alot of the myths saposedly they are pale of skin so darkness dosent have that stand out as much and well the whole sunlight thing..... but like said above vampires are myths so one really dosent know.......some people are just noturnal anyway i prefer to be up all night and sleep all day but with 3 kids thats a hard thing to accomplish....lol.. i thinks its really just a preference thing.......
I agree with most of you. Night time makes it easier for vampires to hide from their prey.
Another reason vampires are noctural is the simple inablity to handle the sun. As some have stated in their pros....they get ill after prolonged exposure to sunlight or UV rays.
im noctural it anoys me cause when i have to get up early in the day i dont lol.
The sun really hurts my eyes, they water badly in the light and I burn very easily. I can't sleep till early hours of the morning no matter how early I get up but I'll have a nap during the day sometimes. I think it's just natural for me to be up at night. Nocturnal? Maybe. Or maybe just preference.
in early days, night was concidered unhealthy to be out in. most believed that demons came out at night. mostly i think it came from the fact that most preditors do thier hunting at night.
perhaps its just simply the dark attracts the dark, its what makes them more comfortable and at ease with who they are
I think that the nightime is easier to go about unnoticed; for me personally it is full of electricity...things seem more alive more vibrant more colorful, and I am happier and more at home in the darkness.
i agree with everyone on this. the sun only hurts if ur not used to it and the night is best for everything needing to be done by a vampire
i go to sleep at 6am i wake up at 2-3pm
but thats not because im a vampire yes the sun burns me to hell if i stay out in it too long. but what does nocturnal have to do about being a vampire? besides what the movies and cartoons tell us is what a vampire is supost to be.
it seems that many posters on this thread give the reason of how the darkness makes it easier to catch ones prey... do you really attack complete strangers at night? i thought that was just a stereo type and that most vampires psy or sang have donors...
i will agree that the night is easier on the skin and eyes, but i think that there are too many rps that just live the stereotypes rather than internally being a vampire with the need of blood or energy...
I believe that it is ther persons personal choice of if they go out during the day or at night.
They might have some ill effects from going out during the day e.g. tiredness. But over all it is up to the person.
I believe that the whole vampire and darkness thing was because ...one,it was easier to get your prey...two, it was not ecepted and could end your life even to claim to be one where as today poeple don't notice things as they once did...you can slice a throut and as long as you can keep them from running for help no one would even notice....also vampires and thier way of life is more accepted ....no more burning at the stake or having one ran through your heart..lol
Hello and good evening,
I, myself, believe in all three. I had to get my opinion in there...
As for Me, I hate the day. yes, I can go out init, but my skin is sensetive to it, and It stings My eyes. gives Me a headache.
I LOVE the night. I am at one with it. the peace. Teh quiet. Teh darkness. just feel more at home at night. I have been known to sit out all night in the summertime. sitting in the shadows. watching people, and them not know I was watching.
I dont believe its a forced thing. its a choice.
Malecke
No modern day vampires are not nocturnal, its just the whole myth thing. Vampires now just usually prefer the night because alot of interesting people come out at night, I guess.... And sometimes they say its because they have sensitive skin to the sun but...who doesn't? I mean its not like the sun is always a pleasant warm feeling. ALSO lots of people have sensitive skin...so yea..
From what I have read, the vampires of legend and lore prefer the night because that is the time that their prey would slumber. As far as sunlight killing a vampire, I have only seen that in Hollywood and haven't read about it actually killing a vampire of legend. As far as today's times goes for vamps, it is extremely difficult to perform normal human functions entirely during the night. For instance, most businesses have one person doing the hiring and they are only there from 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m., the bank lobbies all close by 6:00p.m. and a lot of the stores close by 9:00p.m. Living a life entirely in the darkness nowadays is borderlining impossible to say the least. You will, at one point in time, have to venture out into the sun for some reason sooner or later and not all of us are quite as lucky as to not have to deal with the sun. Carpe Noctem
"you can slice a throut and as long as you can keep them from running for help no one would even notice...." DeathKnight...
Thank you for furthering the claim that all vampires as psychotic criminal killers and thus alienating true peaceful psi and sang vampires.
Contrary to the legends,we can daywalk, but daytime is the not the natural time and powers are weakest during the day,the sun does burn after a while and the temper gets pretty wild after too much, just like humans get sunstroke.nighttime is when its easier to blend in.and hunting is easier.
i agree with most above night is like a cloak to me i can hunt and rest easier its cooler for me as i get hot very easily and the sunlight burns my eyes and skin
it generally is a preference thing but then you have to concider the reasons for the preference
I think it was just another myth given to vampires simply because night is supposed to be a 'sinister' time when 'unthinkable' or 'unknowable' things can occur. It would be easier to get to a victim during the night than during the day though- but I doubt this has any real barrings as to why vampires are supposedly nocturnal. If someone wants blood bad enough- they're gonna come for it no matter then sun's station
I would think that vampires can be active during the day as well as the night. I believe that it is a personality issue. Some people (or vamps) are day people and some are naturally night people.
i thought being a vampire you cant go out into daylight because youll burn up...no offense but if people say they are real vampires that go out in the day i dont think its true because vampires cant be touched by the sun or theyll burn up...at least thats what i have always believed
Again, the idea of a vampire bursting into flames when touched by the sun's rays is pure Hollywood. There needs to be the distinction drawn here between the two. These generalizations can really make existence hell for the real vamps out there by spreading lies and feeding fear.
If a vampire is fond of the night time they will be nocturnal. Personally one of my favorite people in the world is an avid sang vamp who worships the sun and surf.
I love the night time .. but I also know one must go out in the day light for work an what not ...
I think the night time is the best. During the day people are to busy doing everday things work, shopping, etc. But at night time doesn't matter as much. You don't have to be anywhere at anytime so people are out and about for leisure and easier to be lured by a vampire.
i think sleeping during the day and being awak at night while lurking about is good enough for me to go with yes (nocturnal)
It's my opinion, that's all it is... I don't believe for a minute that the modern vampire either fears the sun or is harmed by it...unless, they have conditioned the body to react in such a way. I'm simply an insomniac; I always have been; and I would never claim to be a vampire myself...but I know some that are. Silly if you ask me.
I agree with most that the sun has no harm toard a vampire. I myself I choose the night because it is more solitude for me than fear of sunlight and my skin is sensitive to the heat of the sun. I feel more comfortable at night.
I think that vampires (in the religious sense) are generally fear because they like to meet at night. The meeting that I go to are around 10pm. THey are that late because people have jobs or have to go to school during the day. There was also a lot of people who didn't like that our meeting house was in their neighborhood, so we meet at night to avoid complications.
i believe it is all a myth that vampires can not come out in the day...b/c so many have day jobs....
i think they just have more energy at night and prey was easier to get at night...is where that all comes into play....
i think that vampires like the night because they feel more connected to it.
Vampires have always been one with the dark but, there r a few that r more connected with the light.
I would consider that most people simply happen to like the night for the beauty it shows without the harsh light of day.
Also, for vampires in particular, they are seen as the darker side of life; it only makes sense that they would be associated with the dark of night... They are mysterious and shrowded, like being in the shadow.
Its probably a little bit of it all. Vampires are naturally associated with being dark creatures. And as history and hollywood collide they want to make money. Movies don't sell if they show a vampire walking down broad in the middle of the day wearing a pink jumpsuit with a poodle or some rat dog hanging out of her purse
Its hard to try to explain why they would be able to come out in daytime (Vamps) but I think for the most part they are nocturnal. Its really easy to do things in the dark ;)
I am not vapiric but I believe they don't like daytime because they can't lurk as easily... but I also think that the moon phases have alot to do with their feeding and preying.
they perfer the night because they lv the dark and its easier for them 2 hunt coz they got all the darkness 2 hide in
Stealth is a hunters best aly, and makes for an easy kill. The abilty to be out in the sun makes one seem normal..........whatever that is.
yes i think it has a lot to do with the "cover" of night.
it has to do with being able to move more without being seen.
