If one is to believe in reincarnation so that we keep coming back over and over again what would be the purpose of a heaven or a hell??

If one believes in reincarnation, there is no heaven or hell. There is only the time in between lives. And it is said that there is an ultimate spiritual goal to achieve where one no longer reincarnates at all, but rather their spirit moves on to the next level.

Who said people who believe in reincarnation even believe in heaven and hell??

Though IF I am not mistaken.....I think buddhism states that there is a hell like place, where souls that were too heavy with bad karma went, though this hell was only a temporary place of punishment...like prison. Everyone got a second chance after punishment. And the lite souls, with good karma were able to begin a new life.....no heaven.

Well since I believe both are possible this is my theory. Heaven is the soul's resting place. From there a soul may choose to be reborn, or possibly have to be reborn for some reason. Hell is the place you would go if your crimes in this life were so great that being reborn to have to pay for your sins, just wasn't enough. Or possibly you would go there if you simply couldn't forgive yourself for the things you had done.

That's just my thoughts on the idea. I don't claim to know the mysteries of what may or may not happen when we die.

Perhaps the purpose of life is to learn.

So the belief of returning to live over and over again would be to learn lessons. Even if you take the idea as a metaphor of reincarnation, it remains to be about change and learning.

Above all of the psychological aspects, the final piece is about choice. What sort of “truths” we choose to dilute ourselves with. As anything one believes, there is a counter belief and to not acknowledge or give that credence is to not see the idea in whole but to just see one side of the coin.

In short my view is that we have a choice to learn or not, and finally from what that choice leads us to… change or not.

The idea of Heaven or Hell only reaffirms my ideals on this topic as they are consequences of how someone lived. So as Anti stated, if it is a brief stop in eternity, then what better way of spending the time affirming the good choices and abolishing the poor choices.

Well most do not believe in heaven or hell, but I would think that if there were a heaven or a hell then that would be our final resting place in the end.

Maybe heaven and hell is there for when the world ends.

life, all life, will eventually end. What happens then? is there a final resolution? a resting place when there is no longer a body to inhabit.

i believe that we do come back. n everytime we do we learn lessons n then at the end of all that we need to learn we go to whatever comes next.

In response to AntiEverybody's question, I would like to ask...

Does anything ever REALLY just cease to exist or does it simply change form?

I kill a deer; it becomes my food, my clothes and sometimes even the decor in my house; but it does not cease to exist. I die, my body is still here. Let's say I am buried, my body decomposes into the earth, feeding the plant life, which feeds the animals and in turn me. I am cremated; I turn to ash, which is scattered on the earth and wind. Well I think you probably get my point.

So while all life ends, its vessel doesn't cease to exist, it just changes form.

To me it makes sense that the soul doesn't cease to exist either, it just changes form.

As always, this is just my opinion.

That is all fine and dandy here and now, for when that deer is gone it will have another place to go. But when, not if, everything here is gone we have to start asking more and more questions. Does life exist elsewhere? though the possibility of that is damn near for sure.......we don't KNOW. There are holes in everything and in the end it is all human speculation, something so prone to folly.

i do believe in reincarnation although i dont belive in heven or hell...........
but then again one really dosent know until we go through it ourselves.....ive herd as a few have already stated that we learn lessons in every life and we keep coming back till there is no more we can learn or experience.... whats after that one can only guess........

look the fact is no-one knows where we go when we die. if we spend our life asking questions we will never know the real answer to thats wasting the time we have as this person we are now.

I believe in reincarnation, there is no reason why we couldn't have more than one life on this planet. It is a cycle for learning and experiences for the soul, and a choice to incarnate to learn and grow. As for heaven&hell those of that do believe in reincarnation dont believe in that....

I'ma reincarnation and yet, I believe in heaven and hell. you are right in the assumption that heaven and hell are the inbetween places where the soul rests unil it is ready for a new life. It can turn into a never ending cycle if you never reach perfection in either purely good or purely evil.

I do not know if i am reincarnated or not I do not remember my previous lifes. And have never really checked into if I have had any.

But I do believe in reincarnation and I believe that there could be a heaven and hell. I believe that we are reincarnated until we get it right (whatever that may be.) and then when we do our souls go to either heaven or hell.

In some religions it is believed that you continue to be reincarnated until you have paid your dues and lived your life in a manner worthy of Heaven or Hell.

I don't know I have a lot of mixed views. I definitely believe in reincarnation because I think that we all have lived past lives. Heaven and hell is a state of mind. It is what you make it. I think the way u lived through your life determines how you end up when it is time to pass on. You know like how people believe they will go to heaven because they lived such a pure and distinguished life and then end up where they didn't expect to belong because they weren't as positive and put together as they thought. There frame of mind is not the same as what appeared on the outside. Some people are so stuck in there depression and despair that they can't move on to a more positive afterlife to pass on to the next. Just as some people say that there are wanderers out there with unfinished business that can't move on if they tried.

Like I said before I ran on with my words, I think it is just a state of mind, pretty much what you make of it.

Well I do believe in reincarnation and also heaven & hell. As I stated in other threads I believe I lived before hundreds of years ago. That is how heaven plays a part. When I died I believe I did go to heaven and remained there for centuries preparing for my next life. I believe because I died early in that life I could not spend my eternity in heaven, I needed to experience living more. Some ppl say death is god's work, that is not true, we all have free will and with that free will we do have the power to create life and to take it away. Now I do believe angels can help u or save u, if it is possible, in other words if your body isn't damaged to the point of no return. Now I'm not going to ramble and get off the subject so I'll end it there.

Just wanted to clarify I do not believe in the Bible, and that scripture does not specifically refer to hell, just death. It's just an insight into what I believe.

Reincarnation,being reborn either as something else,or someone else,possible with a similar name.Goes with the theory of Old souls,but old soulds are ones who are yet to find their true soulmate.

Doesnt it depend on what religion you are in? I mean christianity there is Jesus and there is heaven and hell...but in hinduism or buddhism dont they have more than one God? and they keep living different lives to try and move on to a better life and then eventually reach nirvana? I think it all depends on what religion you are in..

Religion can dictate beliefs in reincarnation or heaven and hell, but in the end an individual has the responsibility and the free will to believe in what ever they want. There is no rule that says one can not believe in both and if there was how could it possibly be enforced?

no one can tell you what to believe. and if they did, who's to say it would work? i was raised a christian, but never held the same beliefs.

I know what you're saying about beliefs. I'm Catholic myself, and there are some things that I don't agree with that the Catholic church teaches us. I wish I could give an example, but I can't think of any right now, and I don't think its that important. I totally agree with you on people can't tell you what to believe.

Even though I believe in Reincarnation, I also believe in both Heaven and Hell. What I have learned a soul can come back and try to accomplish what they couldn't in their past lives.

All toegheter, the way it seems now, purpouse of reincarnation is neccessery for the correct evolution of the soul..... One is bout to reincarnate as long as it takes, to realize, finaly, the truth, about what the surroundings really are, to open ones eyes about oneself, to be able to see over the wall(to realise the full potential, and it's possibilitys).... Plainly explained, this goes under "Awareness"..... With these numerous births, the soul is meant to accumulate certain level of knowledge, power, awareness...... All the experiences are being stored, they are one whole for them selves, but in our limited vision, they are only fragments..... When certain level of fragments has been accumulated, a new sight will automaticaly develop.... This is hell, yes, for we are blinded, not able to release our selves from the shackles of ignorance.... We are creating the hell with our own perception, for perception is what we already know/understand......

The way I see it there is no heaven nor hell. But a place such as another world. I suppose its liek heaven though. I think you keep coming back and living life until you yourself believe that you have had a great life with what youw anted. Whether you want to be rich and lonely or poor and in love. Once you find your self then you can move on and have what you want. All the time. It makes no sense to many but to me it does.

i believe in reincarnation. so that makes heaven and hell obsolete. there is no god there is no devil so there is no heaven and there is no hell.

I tend to believe in reincarnation AND a heaven though I dont think there is a hell. I believe that our souls reincarnate over and over to learn certain lessons and if we dont master them we come back and try again....and once our soul truly reaches the goals set before us....it moves on to an eternal peace in something along the lines of a heaven. Its like a retirement once our soul has done all the work set before it.

I believe that the cycle of reincarnation can be stopped and broken at any time. All cycles have an end eventually and then a new beginning (at most). If and when the reincarnation cylce of a being is broken then the belief of heaven and hell comes in. There is some place that they/we go after the end of a cycle, whether you call it heaven or hell or not, we are placed there.

i think religion and heaven and hell is jus to give ppl something to believe in. to give them something to look forward to and fear. to give them hope.

it still makes sence if reincarnation is only for some of us in the sense that some people just go to heaven or hell and some people get the chance to live again as something or someone different

"If" the soul reincarnates, into another human form prior to birth then it's simply re inventing another journey through another lifetime, heaven and hell would be held on account until "Judgement day"

"If" heaven or hell as they are called, are the places you go after death, then reincarnation would only be for a select group of people and for possible reasons of other than completion.

I know that reincarnation exists because i have come back several times as a different life form, My people believe that heaven and hell r 2 forms of pergatory here on this mortal coil, not 4 the after life,,,,,,,,,,,,thats y we have reincarnation, 2 be taught different lessons and to show progresion to our creator as we learn.

Re-incarnation does no preclude heaven or hell, but such concepts spring from the concept of "good and evil" rather then "right or wrong", which in turn springs from externalising responsibility for ones actions.

As for re-incarnation beyond the end of time, well, that sort of assumes there will BE an end of time, physicists are a bit fuzzy about that!

However I fully believe it is possible to incarnate in other corporeal forms other then human, including beams of light, animals, rocks, a thought, music, etc. the spirit must experience everything, to know all which can be known from this corporeal realm.

Ow well heaven or hell would be different planes of existence as I see it. Could call our Earth a heaven, and for those that live on some sucker planet or in the sewers, than Earth really is a heaven for them.

Could say it depends on your previous life behavior, so you will be reincarnated there automaticaly, so could call that existence a hell or heaven, depends really, cuz all is atracting each other, so it depends on the things you have accumulated during the previouse life, so you will be atracted to those kinda things in the next incarnation, would be atracted to negative or positive things, higher or lower planes, heaven or hell....

So be carefull what you do kids, or Papa Creator will send you to a very bad place to do some burning penance there, to redeem the tainted souls..... Or be good and end up drinking wine with Jesus in heaven.....

Being raised as I have, my view may seem slightly odd.
Its is my personal idea that when the Body dies the Soul sleeps. As it sleeps it dreams, and our personal concious determines the state of these dreams. If One is satisfied with the life they have lived, they will dream of happier places and friends long gone.
If thier subconcious believes they have done terriable things them thier Soul Slumber is full of pain and suffering.
Those that are Restless return as Ghost and Spirits.
Others still return in new Bodies.
But the Soul remains eternal untill the time of Judgment when those who are worthy will be welcomed home and those that aren't will be cast out into the pain of an existance without love.

The whole love reference comes from a traditional church definition of Hell being cast from the presence of God's love.

this is why i have such a problem believing in reincarnation because i dont know why there would be a heaven and a hell if we were reincarnated so im glad to see all these different views on this and gives me something else to think about :)

You Are Combining two schools of thought.
There are more people who believe in reincarnation than in heaven or hell.
I believe that the energy that leaves our body at death has to go somewhere.
If not into another being than into the plants and trees

there is no purpose of heaven/hell. the belief in heaven differs from the belief in reincarnation. (id also like to add that i am fairly certain that in a past life i was a trojan preistess in 400 bc)

I think the concepts out there need to be brought up to speed with today’s knowledge of the universe and quantum mechanics.

No wonder everyone is still searching and diluting and splitting and mixing beliefs … none hold true to our knowledge and needs spiritually any more dogma is death to religion unless you uneducated and turn the clock back to a time when that did work …. I fear that happening in this world.

In Budhism,Hinduism, and many other religions, reincarnation (or samsara) is a cycle of rebirth related to ignorance of the true self. The goal of reincarnation is to reach enlightenment (mukti, Nirvana, etc.)

It's more a joining up with a central enlightenment or brahma...the source of all. The concept of reincarnation somewhat does away with a concept of hell...but if you must, compare the Christian concept of "separation from God" as hell to the reincarnation = separation from enlightenment.

The two concepts are not so alien...in one, you are in hell if you are not joined with god in heaven...in the other, you are unenlightened until your final carnation where enlightenment is achieved and you join with brahma, all enlightenment.

If you believe in Reincarnation there is no Heaven or Hell.

I beleave in reincarnations but i also beleave that there is a place that you can rest before coming back here to start the next jurny that life has layed out for you and i would say that some people call that hevan those that call something hell i think just dont get to rest between lifes for one reason or another

Because one "theory" has to deal with going to Heaven/Hell when one dies and the other deals with death simply being a 'new beginning" if you will. They're completely opposite beliefs. The theories contradict one another, therefore you could never combine them the way the person who posted this thread seemed to have wanted to..

I dont think they are paradoxes at all but rather hevean and hell are a mental state and reincarnation is physical...

My mom and I have had this discussion many times, as she is a very dedicated christian and I'm, well, not. We've developed a theory, based around her christian beliefs, that perhaps heaven is eternal rest and when you go to hell, you're actually reincarnated. This also relates to Buddhist beliefs.

I agree with Kiss...I think that one is reincarnated until they acheive a certain quality of life. I know that Buddhism believes that Nirvana is the escape from reincarnation. And one can only enter into Nirvana if they have lived a life free of temptation and evil

One more time then, Heaven is defined in Christianity as a place where one is in God's presence, unseparated from him. Heaven is the goal of life. Enlightenment is the goal of the reincarnated, united with the source of all enlightenment. Seems pretty similar to me.

Hell...separated from God. Reincarnation...separated from Enlightenment. Not exactly the same, but certainly not opposite either.

There is room enough for both views and if you take a step back, you'll see pattern, similarity, and a compatibility.

there is no purpose to heaven n hell. to me they do not exist. the only reason ppl bring up religonb is because they are too afraid to admit that they hav no explanatin as to y a single lif is so short. they need to fill in that void that tells them that they are small in the world. they need a superior bing that 'created' them and will choose wat happens to them after death will b based on wat they do during that life. to thos that fall into this they are forever doomed to repeat the process not relizing that they hav done this b4. i am not trying to b offensive to those that believe in god im jus saying wat i think.

To me, it only makes sense that we would reincarnate. There is no way all lessons could be learned in one lifetime.

I don't believe in heaven or hell...I believe in right and wrong. And I believe we can choose whether or not we come back.

I read somewhere that souls who choose to return are true warriors...we choose to experience life as a physical being to gain our experience.

Once we've attained that highest level, I believe we would then be guides/guardians to those who are still learning.

I suppose we'll find out someday, won't we? ;-)

ok some of you have heard this before... inhereted memories... the study has been done sientifically on people who have recieved transplants mainly just vital organs specifically a heart, where the recipiant takes on traits of the other person's life taste in food and memories and such... my thought is that from your parents you recieve your eyecolor weight height and so forth why not recieve their memories as well?

To but it blunty, nobody knows if reincarnation is real nor heaven and hell.
when we die we will know the truth, until that time comes its just all theroys, and speculation. peoples faith is what makes them believe what they do. so what right do we have to question it, if we dont have any proof our selves.

personally my idea of heaven and hell is its a state of mind. i dont believe in the idea of a christian place of rest. cause for people to stay in heaven according to them u have to forever worship a god. reincarnation is a nice idea. i would rather keep coming back in future lives. to reek havoc on people i dont like :)

According to Sufi beliefs, reincarnation is a state for our souls to return to this earth after death so they reach a level of perfection and understanding. There are many teachings on this subject and is one that has always fascinated me, and so much that I attended Sufi school in London, UK.

Many cultures believe that the concept of heaven or hell is based on Karma or by what moral structure you lived your life. For some it is not a perminant place for one's soul but a transitional place between lives.
Myself, I feel that there is a heaven and a hell of sorts, for the purpose of ultimate enlightenment and ultimate damnation. Basically...we are only given so many chances to get it right and achieve ultimate enlightenment...heaven. If we are unable to achieve that state, we then are sent to "hell".

it all depends on what religion you are. i would think there is not heaven or hell if you are rencarniated. only pergatorie.

I, myself believe in reincarnation and do not believe in heaven or hell. The reason i believe in reincarnation is because of memories i have had which i believe to belong to past lives.

I think I have been reincarnated a few times. I have memeries that I know are not from this life.

I believe in reincarnation for several reasons. The first is I believe some souls are reincarnated to keep order in the world, one of my many long thoughts concerning fate. Second, I believe I have been reincarnated and have several memories. But at the same time I do not believe that every soul is reincarnated.

Heaven and Hell are creations of the Christian religion. The purpose of reincarnation is to learn how to become omnicient spirit beings in the presense of the Source. The Source is the center of which all deities are a facet . Praying toa particular god is focusing on certain qualities of that facet of the Source.

Well I think that reincarnation means thatyour getting chances to do good for all the times you did bad so you get alot of chances and if you do good you go to heaven, but if you simply can't and there is no hope for you then that's when hell comes in.

I believe in reincarnation.....how else can you explain children with talents beyond their years, and those that are gifted in math or science. And, let's not forget deja vu......the recollection you've been somewhere, done something or met someone before, though you haven't....at least, not in THIS lifetime. Our "souls" keep getting sent out to learn more, and to perfect themselves.....and when they finally do reach that point of ultimate perfection, they get to "retire" to the afterlife, whether that be Heaven or whatever your own personal religion may label it. That's my personaly opinion, anyway.....and I'm sticking to it. :)

i think that with the belief of reincarnation we just simply fade away until our soul joins the world of the living again. but yes i do think that reincarnation and the beliefs of heaven and hell r of different religion but the idea that after we pay our dues we go somewhere were we can rest

I think that we create our own hells. I believe heaven is different for everyone. I believe that when the soul has acheived perfection we do go to a place of "rest" but it is not the heaven we all perceive. It is a state of godliness.

I believe we all have lifes lessons to learn. If you make a mistake or take life forgranted then you're back in the wwomb for roud tow. Hell, you may not be so lucy as to get a wonb! Energy doesnt disintegrate , who's to say there isn;t some genetic imprin o that ledds characteristic of lives past?

I always hate this subject, cause I'm still not really sure what I believe. I was rasied with the belief of heaven & hell, but to much deja vu, and I just can't help but think maybe reincarnation is real.
Maybe they both are real. I believe heaven & hell exist & that they are the final ending, but that doesn't mean that there aren't many lives between reaching one of them.

I think i may have been reincarnated before as i seem to get visions of a past life and if i were to be reincarnated again i would probably want to be something in a dark place that could live for an eternity.

Heaven and hell are for the most part manufactured ideas of the catholic church. Any one who has studied the bible would know that there is no fiery hell and the hell and hades are translated meaning the grave. Heaven was never meant for humans but only for the celestial body it says that man would be brought back to a paradise on earth not in heaven and all the lives that are lived are all lessons to be learned.

I believe its been stated over and over again. I'll state my two cents:

Heaven and Hell both stand as Ideals for the faiths that created them. Just as the Elusien Fields that the ancient greeks believed they'd go to, to live with their families. It is the same with the Druids, Shamans and Hindu who believe in Reincarnation.

It is their decided faith, to believe that they are reincarnated. Each time, they are to atone for the sins or Karma of the life they left, and to learn the life lesson of the current life.

The Hindu believe depending on the Karma you earned in that life, you could reincarnate into lesser or greater forms of life, from the fly to the holy cow.

I personally believe as the druids do, that I shall be reincarnated as another human, in another time, to learn another life lesson. I do not think I or anyone else will ever truly learn all the life lessons that are in store, ever. As much as we try to quantify aspects of our lives, it is truly impossible to identify everything that there is to know, as we realistically do not know it all.

What is important, is that you have faith in something, anything would be better than to have no faith, for then you are truly lost all hope and reason for being.
