Apparently this is "Doomsday." The Mayan calander ends on this day. Oracles from the past have said that the world will end. According to more then one book of prophecy the worls axis will tilt and we will have storms and other natural occurances happen tenfold all over the world. I want to know what you all think about this.

who knows what will happen :) i have heard this date for the 1000th time i think :) if it really was then we should try to preapre ourselves.. even films were made potraying this.. but who knows what the human being will do.

well, there was also a prohecy that the world will end on the second millenium and that was in the year 2000. but nothing happened.

the years previous to 2000, which is 100b.c.-1999 is the year of the fish, and the pisces is the sign of chrisr since he was born in feb. pisces means string faith.and the years after 2000 is the year of aquarius. the aquarius means acceptance of new knowledge. with the coming of the aquarius cmillenium, new information opposing what is known about christ endangers the catholic church.

since most of the seers and prophets are catholics, they said that the year 2000 will be the end, but this means end of faith, not the world.

i guess this is similar to what you had said about 2010.

besides, its nice to ask scientists when the world will end, after all the global warming, enlargening of the ozne layer and increasing population, it could be near, but who really knows? they could even have found another planet for us to live in..

I beleive the earth is coming to its end, for even science shows we are due for for an impending world disaster. It may not be in a specific year...but we are due.

I've always (at least since I've been old enough to be rational) viewed these dates as a metaphoric ending.

In other words, our society is shifting. Perhaps around that date there will be a major change. End of the world? Doubtful, but end of an era- probably.

Think about the great depression and how one day changed the outlook of that generation. Folks that lived then never forgot what they went through. Perhaps it is something like that...

Or it could be the shift of consciousness. Where we are making changes due to events that have yet to occur. Some view that is why the Indigo and Crystal children are here... to pick up the mess after and during the shift.

Nah- I bet it's a meteor... and that we'll all be stardust after it hits ;)

but really planits live and planits die...... will we see the end in our day and age i doubt it will our children see it in theres probably not........if we spent all our day trying to figure out what the seers in the past call the end of time..... we would all go stark raveing mad.......lifes to short to worry about it...... yes they are great shows to watch on the history channel and such and yes i did watch that one last night ...... but i only watch them to see how people viewed the world to be in our day and age .... a lot of it yes is pretty close to the truth but come on they new that in centuries to come we would evolve ....... just as we know in the next millenium are decentants will have evolved even further than us....... you dont have to be a scientist to figure that out..........

Most people forget that there are different calendars and different ways time has been recorded. If the prophets don’t give any clue as to what scale of time is related to their prophecy then frankly it’s all crap and useless.

The Mayan calendar only predicted mass change not the destruction or the end of the world. That is simply the popular translation as it helps sell New Age related books. To quote the joke my Anthropology professor always said about it: “I really wish people would just flip the damn thing over.” Ok so it’s a dumb joke and I guess you would have to be there.

I believe the world is coming to an end at somepoint, i have read a fare few prophets and even what some sceintist have said like the world will collaps on new yrs day 2000 (which was also written in some text. None of these have come to pass but i dont think we should come complasent anything can happen

i dont believe anyone can determine when the world will end. Scientist and so forth want to predict what the think but God only knows when the world will end.

Predicting the worlds end is a moot point. After all there will only be one correct prophet and once we realize they where correct, the world will have ended and then who cares.

Now we know it’ll eventually end and we should protect our species from extinction.

The Mayan calender is a calendar. It was made by the Mayans. They had to pick an ending date. My round table U.S. calendar ends in 2130. It doesn't mean that the world is ending on that day, just that they ran out of room and had to find a stopping point. Now, will the world eventually come to an end, probably. Will we ever know the specific date, probably not.

ravenna052199 – You have a valid point but the Mayans did end their calendar at a point in which they thought a great event of change would occur. When they created their calendar they could have made it bigger and longer if they had chosen too but they did not as their observations and beliefs told them it was an ending point of a sort.

I don't believe this date has any more signifiance than any other day as far as ending the world is concerned. I look on it like those who claim the "signs" are present now that equal the end of days based on the bible. They were saying things like this in my grandmother's day and will be saying them when I'm dead and gone.

Of course they ended it on a day they thought something would happen. How else would they explain there choice of date or even be able to to pick an arbitrary date.

Nightgame - :) Now that humanity has been around for a few centuries we can develop better macro behavioral studies looking at the behavior of humanity as a whole over the centuries. One of the things that is very clear is that we have repeated ourselves at least a couple of times now, everything from massive religious changes to global wars and the rise and fall of dominate empires. In all of it there have always been doomsayers as you pointed out. According to them our world should have ended a half dozen times now or more.

The world will eventually come to an end... But does anyone really know when? I dont think so... I believe it will happen but as to the time it is going to be unexpected as to when..
Look at it this way.. We are already having storms rock the world, global warming as the scientists call it.

When ever there is a great event in the world, it ends... And begins again with a fresh conscious and perspective, happened with all the wars, and many major events.So past seers and prophets saw these events and misinterpreted them as a world destructive event... if a seer or prophet saw sept 11 they would think it was the end of the world because it was so catastrophic. So I think it is mostly misinterpretation and these prophecies need to be re-examined with a modern mind.

I have heard this one before. Personally I think that it's the date they got to before the aliens came and took them away. For those who don't remember, the Mayans myssteriously disappeared. Maybe they were taken away by Jesus and the Mayan calendar-maker got spirited away before he could continue with 12.22.2012.

Seriously though, this date is said to hold great significance. While it's anybody's guess as to when the world will end, I believe it might point more to a great shift in the consciousness of mankind.. I'm hoping it's more of an enlightenment vs an age of ignorance. Most New Agers I've talked to about this date argue that we are heading towards either of the two and that it is the job of the Indigo children to lead us towards enlightenment. It's the biggest bunch of BS ever.

Hey everybody. From what I learned in school, the world is not coming to an end. Our calender is based on the Gregorian calender, not the Mayan. The Gregorian calender is set 6 years behind the Mayan, not to mention years and years of this planet went undocumented, therefore we are WELL passed 2012. In fact, if we are going by documented time, it is 2013. I think this the same type of thing as Y2K and all the "prophecies" that came along after 9/11, it's purely for shock value. It's just to scare people. Lets not jump the gun... remember what happened with the alien scare over the radio?

In a physical sense it could mark or I think it does mark a future planetary alignment. Who knows maybe the magnetic poles of the earth will finally flip at that point and thus cause great change to the Earth especially with some planets lined up. It does create a greater degree of gravitational effect on us when that happens and if our magnetic field is not in place all hell will break lose on this planet. Most scientist point to that fact that this has happened a few times before and we survived as did life. But it could cause great change. But at best this is all speculation but entertaining to BS about.

i have heard this date many times, which i dont believe it as well, and sometimes it may mean the world will only be destroyed as we know it, and man may be forced back into the stone age if there is nuclear war, i hope i see the end of the world in my limetime

Most of the time, I shrug off ancient oracles and perdictions because of how vague they typically are.

but it is very interesting that on the date the Mayan calander ends also happens to be when the earth and the universe will move below the galaxies equater...

there is no clear number of times as there are tom many who have given dates. There are at least a few dozen more popular ones though I don't know them all.

Like meeper I too tend to shove off predictions of such things as well....one can only say such things never really know...like there is no absolute way of knowing things about dinosaurs and how they lived or what will happen in the future. Even if we did know what would happen would it help anyone to know? Could you prevent it?

I'll believe it when I see it, honestly. So many have prophecied about so many different dates, I don't even bother myself with them. With what I practice anyway, I feel I should be ready now, for nobody would really know the exact date. I hold to what is written in Revelation and the other Books as well. That is an essential part of what I believe and who I am.

Mieta1 – And would you want to prevent it? A forest fire is only damaging because stupid people build homes near them and lose what they build. The earth needs to clean itself as in the forest fire it feeds new and stronger growth. Some times I wonder if we are ticks on its back and it’s waiting for the day it can wash us off.

While I won't argue how significant is this date, it seems to me that the more we're approaching it the more we're making it a self-fulfilling prophecy more then anything else, if nothing truly happens somebody somewhere has to make it happen no matter of how much life changing it is.

There is a very interesting planetary alignment on that date, but no end of the world...The effects will be felt on much higher levels, mostly beyond the physical realm...

The calendar in Super Mario Bros. DX for the GameBoy Color ends with the year 3000.. I used that as a sign of hope for a continuing future (be said future good or bad).

Personally, I am thinking that it is the time of maturity for the earth. If we concider hman nature as it is now,,, we are often discouraged; it is human nature to be lazy, or violent, or rude, or whatever. I believe this is the date in which there is believable evidence that human nature has changed and that "heaven" on earth is achievable.

It makes reasonable sense that something is going to happen when the planets line up with the effect that gravity of our moon has upon our tides.. how much more of an effect will the line up of ALL the planets have versus just our small moon????

I don't personally put too much faith in predictions, since the Y2K thing. I am sure we will have storms. Look at what has gone on thus far in the USA, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, fires and such. Thats just 1 country. Tsunamis...whats a given date? Sorry guys, I think the date thing is bunk. It's going on now, global warming! There's a prescription for storms!!!

Wouldn't it be safe to say that if you were truly worried about the demise of the world, you wouldn't worry about these eubidiquious end of the world predictions and live each day as your last?

When you look at it from a logical point of view, the Mayan calendar does not really end in 2012. It merely is the end of one complete Mayan millenium. Just like our 1000 years. Well, what this means is that the world will NOT end, it will only mean the Mayan calendar starts from the start again. So many people imagine the worst when for countless millenia, I keep a positive outlook and believe nothing special will happen, unless the humans on this planet make something happen. :)

Well I've heard many different dates of the world ending but frankly I say no one really knows completely. But look at it this way: we have been having a lot of natural disasters due to the poor health of the earth, we have a senseless war going on, we are losing lots of the food supply, and the ppl are becoming more and more crazy. I say we have already started the worst of it but I am not about to sit around acting like I'm going to die and freaking out over what I haven't done. When it is time I just hope I am with the ppl I love and having the best time of my life(not excluding the best sex ever lol).

At least the 2012 Summer Olympics will get in before the world ends.

I dont know that I believe that it will happen that day... I mean they did think that 1-1-00 was going to be Y2K and all. I guess with me, I think that if the world is going to end, when it happens it happens. I dont usually put alot of thought into things that I cant control....

Heh. I thought It was December 14th. Ah well. Yea.. I've been anxious to see what happens. I mentioned it in school the other day, and got some interesting feedback on it. The funniest by far was that, Many of my friends turn 21 that year, so as long as they can be drunk, they don't care what happens.

Personally though. I think something rather exotic will happen. No theories on exactly what yet. But only time will tell.

hmm I suppose that it will happen to this planet.since the mayans also predicted the coming of white men onto their land.and the oracles predicted the three antichrists which only two have come to be known and the last one has yet to be revieled.but the poles on each se of the earth also switch every 25,800 years 2012 going to be the next time they switch.and if they move slow then small trembles will happen but if they switch as it is said to then they will most likely cause mass extinction to humans.......good luck humans :)

I heard about it ending in 2012 , but I also heard it could happen anywhere from another 90 to 1000 yrs . Who is to know for sure , I say enjoy life now and worry when it happens. Why worry now and when 2012 gets here and nothing happens . Just like it was suppose to happen in 2000 or 2001.

i know some of my friends are going to party then. but they also say that life will continue. it will be alot of death but life finds a way. just hope you know how to survive with out some of the things your used to.

I agree with Chrisg4202000. If you do believe in the Bible, then is no way we will know until it happens. The Mayans may be on to something but really no one will know anything, unless something happens.

I believe the real end of the world will be when our sun will become a red-giant for a few thousand years and basically, swallow up Mercury and Venus, and fry earth to a crisp, then will colapse upon itself and become a white dwarf star. Of course this won't happen for like a short time from now... say... 10 billion years. ;)

Plenty of time to catch the olympics or the latest soccer game or whatever your preferences are in sports. Heck, you could even squeeze in a midnight bite... um... I mean, a snack or two. xD

I'm going to get off the doomsday DATE and address another part of your statement. Maybe the axis tilting refers to something that has happened several times in the past = The total Reversal of the Earth's Magnetic Field. Wonder what that would do to all of our electrical equipment if the earth, which is essentially a giant magnet, underwent a gradual (or not-so-gradual) flip? You know what happens when you hold a strong magnet next to your VCR tapes, computers, etc....

If the magnetic field of our planet changes, which is has proven to have done so in the the past [as seen in some rocks] then many people will have weirdly coloured TVs. Even today, you can take a TV from Australia and bring it to Canada and the colour, even if the settings are untouched, will be totally off. That has to do with the magnetic field being different in various parts of the globe. TVs are very senstitive to such things. However I am sure such a shift in poles will result in more widespread communications problems. Very good point there. :)

What's pretty neat about some mesoamerican mythology is that there's supposed to be some black patch in the starry sky along the arm of the Milky Way that we see during this time.

This patch (as I recall) is that they referred to Xibalba Be - the Otherworld. The spirit realm, or the Underworld.

I really liked this story as I had been fascinated with the character Ah Puch as the lord of Xibalba and was tinkering with a story about how this was the date that he was gonna break out of the prison yard... ;)

Being a huge Star Trek fan......I am going to believe that the date mentioned is when the Vulcans finally make ocntact with us and the age of Trek begins. :))))

I dont think this date is the end of the world but i have heard all the prophecies. I look at it this way, our calender keeps going. if the world ends it will be a different day for everyone, seeing as some places are 10 hours ahead of other places, etc. i sure hope its not, only because id rather be gone all ready when the end of the world comes. but who knows.

why concern yourself over that in which you have absolutly no control. If the world ends, it ends. Don't ask when, just be ready for it.

I think you just got that date from the movie The Number 23. I saw that movie, and that date was in it.

these predictions have been being made for decades the world was supposed to end in the 70's then again in the year 2000 I don't think it is possible to predict the end of the world and as far as the axis tilting it is already doing that gradually so we will not really notice the difference.

It would seem more of a cycle change than anythng else, we've been in a suncycle since 2002, 2012 would be it's ending, possibly the next cycle will bring about a different sort of change in climate and earth physics.

I have heard a lot of interesting things about the end of the world. But I can honestly say I think most of it is crap. Mostly because I think people jsut want to sell the idea to other people and a buck or two. No one knows when the Earth will end. But we as a society don;t change our habits and mechanisms we will surely help destroy the Earth faster. I think it is up to us to save the Earth for the sake of our children.
Sure the Earth is old and is probably ready to pass on, thats why all the scientists keep looking at the other planets, hoping that they can find one for us to move to.

I think people take everything they hear way to seriously. I mean.. If the newspaper printed an article that read the world was gonna be attacked by Iraq. *just take this as an EXAMPLE* If people were reading this in the paper, they'd be freaking out... But how do you know its true.. Your really don't but since you read it.. It has to be right? Wrong. People read things all the time and just assume they're right, when most of the time they're false and just lead people to believe things are. But who knows..? Right..

You hear a new "proven" date of end just about every year lol. I hope the world ends later than that!

We have been told many times when the world is going to end...if this is the real date that it happens then the only thing that we can do is to be with the loved ones and take care of any biz that we may have and enjoy life til that day gets here

When the series The X-Files was brought to it's conclusion, they used this date as the date for when the Alien invasion would occur. What one group of people viewed as an end of the world as they knew it, may be entirely different then what another group views as the end of the world. An end is merely a chance for things to be renewed.

if it happens it happens. what can be done? I personally dont believe it will be that date, but one never knows.

I simply don't think the planets will end.

What is on the planet (including people) will change as it always has. In the past the change has always been brought about by nature, meteors, sun spots and stuff.

The only difference this time is that mankind will play some part in the overhaul
