I live in Wheeling, WV, 15 minutes north of Moundsville. The state penn has been featured on M tv's paranormal investigations. The prison is home to what we believe to be numerous Residual Hauntings. Residual Hauntings are best explained as a replay of a particular tragedy. Whenever a tragedy occurs, energy is released. At times this energy is triggered, and the result is a replay of the event itself.
There have also been reports of Poltergeist Activity within the walls of Moundsville. One report in particular, claims that an entrance gate turns itself periodically.. as if new prisoners were still arriving at the prison. (which closed in 1995!)
The prison has been a home to thousands of the country's most notorious criminals. Charles Manson, himself, spent some time there.. and requested on numerous occassions to be sent back to Moundsville to serve his time. It has also been a place where horrible crimes have been committed. Murder, torture, suicide, rape, and well over 90 executions have all added to the energy in the prison. Visual sightings, sounds of slamming cell doors, screams, and phantom footsteps are all seen and heard here. If you visit the prison, be sure to check out the "Sugar Shack," and the Chapel. (reportedly the 2 most haunted areas of the prison!) Anything great around you?

I live near charelston SC. The most famous ghost there that I have seen on TV is the gentleman ghost. There is a bed and breakfast place you can stay and it is said he takes kindly to women visitors. There are also numerous ghost tours they are pretty good. They take you through the town either walking or horse and buggy showing various areas that are haunted. It's worth a visit if in the area.

In Philadelphia there is also an onld prison. The first "Modern" Pentitentiary started by the Quakers in 1829. It is said to be haunted by many former inmates. It was in use until the mid 1970's. It is now a museum open to the public. It is seriously creepy inside the walls. I have a few pictures I took on our last visit there in my portfolio.

Not too far away is Gettysburgh, the sight of the massive Civil War battle. The battlefield areas as well as much of the town has numerous haunting doccumented.

I live in Greece in a town outside athens.close to me there is a mountain with a cave (penteli) the cave its know to be haunted from ancient years.Its the actuall cave from the greek myths that says that there is a connection path from the dead.When someone dies can walk from there to the world.

I know right outside of Memphis, where I live is the Bellebois Mansion. It's haunted by an 18 year old boy who died in the area.

A lot of people also like to say the Orpheum Theater in downtown Memphis is haunted as well

There is a cemetery in Toronto, Ontario, Canada called Toronto Necropolis Cemetery. I have personally experienced the haunting of this place.

This is one of the oldest cemeteries in Canada. Many of the graves had to be moved from an older cemetery that was literally falling into a ravine.

In the sub-basement of the old caretakers house there is apparently a small dungeon. You draw your own conclusions. I don't understand why there would be a dungeon under a caretakers house.

I live very close to Reymeyer's Hollow and The Seven Gates of Hell as well as Gettysburg so ghost stories and ghosts are common enough in my area.

Wilmington NC is one of the most haunted cities on the east coast. They even filmed an episode of "Ghost Hunters" on the USS North Carolina that is docked here in the river.

We have a few graveyards that have been around since the civil war, and fort fisher which is one of the most haunted sites in the state. Shit, even Ive seen "The General".

Ladybird bend by egypt Valley in Ohio. A woman of many years was in a accident and at night they say you can see her walking down the road where she was killed.

there were some famous hauntings in my hometown... the library actually has a web cam on it 24/7 so people can try and get a glimpse at the ghost.

I'm in New Jersey. I've lived in multiple areas of it and other states. So far I have realized that every area, as small as a every forest or stream, has a haunting tale. Where I reside right now is quite small but I've heard of the most insane stories about fences and water towers. So I say that New Jersey is a psychopath ward.

Pocatello - Ammon Park - The Idaho Ghost Hunters say that Ammon Park is haunted by a young girl in a blue dress that swings on the swings late at night.

Pocatello - Idaho State University - Frazier Hall - This building, which houses the speech and theatre departments, is supposedly haunted by a ghost the locals call Alex. Stories include phantom piano players, spectral audience members, and footsteps up and down the hall on the 4th floor.

Pocatello - Kraft Building - It is believed that a woman was tied up there and tortured and raped, and now in present day it is said that an occult forms there and sacrifices animals. So the city of Pocatello has closed it off to all visitors and public. - November 2003 Update: they have torn down most of it, and what was left of it has been renovated into offices.

Pocatello - Pocatello High School - while working late at night teachers have heard an alarm go of at the stroke of midnight, lasting for about 30 seconds in the vicinity of the old gymnasium. Janitors and administration have no explanation as the alarm sounds different from the modern motion detector alarms installed in the buildings. Apparitions have also been seen.

Pocatello - Stanfard Mansion - Is haunted by a girl who was locked in the tower of the mansion when she fell ill. My friends and have seen apparition of a man on the side of the front porch and a young boy in old century clothing sitting at the dining room table eating.

Don't have a famous haunting, but the place i used to live at was haunted. Doors would open and anytime they did my cat Harrison was there glaring down the door

Well, there are hauntings all over in my area but the closest one has to be At the Octagon Farms in Delhi NY. Some people say its in Delhi some say its Walton. Im not exactly sure because its basically on a road between the two. However the story goes... Long ago a newlywed bride was wearing her wedding dress and riding a white horse. The horse went wild and the woman fell off and she died after her head hit a rock laying on the ground. Today, you can see her riding around on a white horse late at night still in her wedding dress. The official Octagon Farms website doesn't even mention the haunting, but thats probably because it is now a bed and breakfast. Go figure.

I live in New Orleans...the whole place is haunted! But my favorite is the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, a little drive from here. I stayed overnight in the room known as "the nursery." I plan to go again this year.

I live in New York state. We have lots of haunted castles, and things like that. It's a big state! There's one place I know of that is really creepy. It's a road, not all of it, but a good portion of it. It's called Krumkill Road. This particular area was an Indian burial ground, or something of that nature. I can't remember all of the things that people have said about it. There are countless stories. Anyway, this road is always foggy. It's really misty during the day, even on the hottest, sunniest day. At night it is really creepy. It is really foggy when it gets dark out. (I love being creeped out driving down this road!) The weather can be warm and clear, and this road is always foggy! It is really strange, and quite unexplainable. "Krumkill" does sound kind of spooky doesn't it...

I live in Georgia, but the closest town to me is Chattanooga, TN I know of several places there that are haunted and I have witnessed first hand a few hotels, an old asylum which was turned into a school that my mom went to that was eventually burned down due to hauntings, and about 20 or 30 minutes from here is Corpsewood Manor... now that place is creepy last time i was there 2 of the people with us were "bothered" by spirits

Molly – this is the ghost that we know most about. Molly was a chamber maid and as with many servants would have lived in the hotel. She fell in love and was spurned, tragically she took her own life in the old stable block. Molly has been seen by many people over the years, but a notable sighting was made by an American Serviceman in the mid 1990s who saw her top half walk across his room (her lower half being below the floors surface). Investigation showed that the new block which was built in 1890 was built on the site of an old stable block, which presumably had different floor levels – maybe he saw Molly walking to her death.

I go to school in a town just outside Manchester, in England , and our local theatre is supposedly haunted, and was featured on Most Haunted.

Also, the cellar of the old school building is supposed to be haunted by some kid that died there while the school was being built back in the 1800s.

Plus most of the old mills in Oldham are meant to be haunted too.

Disneyland is very haunted.

San Diego - The Horton Grand Hotel, The Hotel Del Coronado, The Whaley House - all have been in books and on TV and I've met a ghost or two of all places up close and personal.

North of here in San Jose is the famous Winchester House

I live in Austin TX. We have several places that are Haunted but the most Haunted is the Driskill Hotel.

Some of the stories of haunting there are....

The spirit of a young child bouncing a ball haunts the first floor lobby, the ladies bathroom on the second floor near the bar, and along the stairs leading to the mezzanine. In 1887, while the Texas Senate was in session, the daughter of a Senator fell to her death while chasing a ball down the grand staircase. Her death was the first at the hotel. Within a week she was back running around and playing. Her spirit is also the first recorded ghost at the Driskill.
Singer Annie Lennox and her band, the Eurythmics, enjoyed more than just "sweet dreams" during a stay in the 1980s. In her room before a show she laid out two dresses on the bed. Unable to decide which to wear, she decided to take a shower. After nearly 45 minutes of primping, she stepped out of the bathroom to discover only one dress left lying on the bed. The other was hung up nicely in the closet! Taking the recommendation of her visitor, she wore the dress on the bed. What's even more interesting is that her room was locked, and she was the only one with the key. Also, she had not yet unpacked, and the closet was completely empty except for the dress.

Room 525, which in 1998 re-opened after years of unuse, is one of the hubs of ghostly activity in guest rooms. For years the Driskill staff had closed the room and used it as storage. The doorway leading into the bathroom had been bricked up due to an Austin urban legend known as the "suicide brides." This legend claims that two women had committed suicide in that bathroom 20 years apart to the day. This is far from confirmed. Although a woman is known to have ended her life on the 4th floor, room 525 is one floor up and had already been closed off by then. The exact history of 525 may never be known, since the room's closing predates all current staff members. When reconstruction forced the re-opening in 1998, many strange things happened. The room needed to be painted four times, as the walls kept peeling. An air conditioning vent that was left lying on the floor blew cold air. When it was moved the blowing stopped. One of the workers described an unusual but distinct humming in his chest upon entering the bathroom. When the brick was torn down, the bathtub was full of crystal clear water. The faucet was not dripping, the floor was dry, and that room had been closed off for years!

There is a place where I used to live... The place is called Spiro Mounds. It is an Indian Archaelogical site... When we went there we saw an Indian following through the trails...When we got back into the museum area there was a picture of that same Indian hanging on the wall dated back to the 1800's

I know of that prison kcrc. im from philadelphia!!! right now im living in tampa, and in st petersburg there is an old hotel that to this day still has sightings. just last week a man ran out of there without even checking out. ive been to it, the top floor is in the same condition it was many years ago when the hotel first opened. its very dilapadated, no one will renovate that floor. so they use it for tours.

Charleston - Charleston Train Depot and Carriage Trail - On the bank of the Kanawaha River, at the train depot, just at the bottom of the exclusive South Hills mountain drive, the Charleston Train Depot rivals any 19th century European Town Center. At the depot, flanked by the river on one side and a winding suburban mountain road also exists a carriage trail which led, in days gone by, to the Governors Mansion. The depot has a restaurant and a scenic view. The old carriage trail is barely noticeable from the train platform, but driving up the hill on the right side of the forked road motorists can see a clear wide carriage road leading to what is now Sunrise Museum. Vagrants and homeless people are said to spend some nights near the bottom of the trail waiting for a train to hop, and high school students sometimes wander the trail at the top of the trail behind the museum. No one ventures past the desecrated statue of a Our Lady. A dark spot exists in summer and winter at the second curve from the top of the trail (or the third from the bottom). West Virginia was fiercely abolitionist during the Civil War and the state seceded from Virginia because the mountain men and their Indian Wives did not believe in slavery. Killeen - Maxdell Bridge - A few years ago a bus from Maxdell school was taking a trip to a neighbor hood threw Maxdell bridge. The bus got into an accident and everyone died. It is said today that if you go threw Maxdell Bridge, you can hear the screams of children and mysterious finger prints will appear on you car.

Killeen - Randalls Food Store - currently Hastings - It was felt by many managers that there was a ghost roaming the managers office and the store aisles. This ghost would knock off magazines from the check stands onto the floor. Also, it was seen that the ghost would make pyramids by food cans on the aisles. There was also a door leading to the catwalk of the store in the managers office, late at night many times you would feel a cold chill and wind blow papers off the desk.

in Crosset, arkansas there is a light near a railroad, a man lost his head there and the light is supposed to be the torch of him looking for his head. if you chase it it will run and noone can catch it, but as soon as you turn around it follows you!

i live in the Texas panhandal. like and hour and a half drive from the massacar house. where the Texas Chainsaw Massacar sopposedly happened.

I recently moved to Oregon and haven't heard of anything like that here, but in San Antonio Tx where I moved from there is. We have the famous tracks that people line up for miles and miles just to turn their cars off and have their cars pushed up the hill and over the railroad tracks said to be haunted by children killed on a school bus. Does it work? Yes and every year on Halloween that is one of the hottest haunted places to be. There is no real documentation that there was a bus load of children that died on those tracks, but the place is scary at night and it does indeed work. I have taken the keys out of my ignition and even turned my car facing away and still the pull is a real rush. You park away from the incline where the tracks sit and turn your car off and realy slow it begins to move upwards and over the tracks.

there is also the Alamo it is said that people have seen and heard soldiers from the civil war.

there are also some hotels and a few houses you can visit on haunted tours.

A night club where supposedly the devil himself appeard to a women on her wedding night. He showed up at the reception where everyone he looked at was in a trance. He was supposedly very handsome and danced with the bride and when she looked down noticed he had hoofs for feet and screamed and he exited to a room where he was followed but never found. I don't know how much truth there is to this but it is mentioned in haunted places of Texas.

Bristol - Colt State Park - Used to be a farm until it was sold to the state in the 50's or 60's. Apparently a stable hand died in the barn (now used as the park office). staff has shut off lights and closed doors only to find them on or open when they come back a few hours later, but nothing much more than that. One witness reports he was going to his car from the beach at what is called "Suicide Hill" and saw two little girls walking up the path towards him. They vanished as he got closer. A guy who works there confirmed one of his ex-coworkers saw the same girls and heard giggling in the woods in that area. Supposedly two young sisters drowned in the waters off the point back in the 70's. The park closes at dark and is patrolled so you can't be in there late.

Exeter - Chestnut Hill Cemetery - A young girl, Mercy Brown, died on Jan. 18, 1892. Her father later dug up her body thinking that she had become a vampire. With local help they removed her body and the medical doctor drained her organs of the remaining blood. This violation of her grave has caused Mercy to appear in the graveyard at night. Many witnesses report seeing strange blue lights moving in the graveyard. As you leave, supposedly when you go over the second bridge the vampire appears to be in front of your car. a truck comes from nowhere and follows you all the way to the highway and then disappears.

Exeter - Joseph P. Ladd Center - aka: Ladd School (mental and rehabilitation hospital (1902-1982) - A compound of 10 buildings located in dank and barren meadows scattered with random sickly, creature-like trees surrounded by acres of dense coniferous woods in Exeter, RI. Comprised of a Recreational Center containing a theatre, basketball courts, locker rooms, bowling alley, indoor swimming pools, classrooms, cafeterias and kitchens, and a sub-basement, 6 story Cylindrical Shaped Infirmary containing a padded cell, dental clinic, operating rooms, morgue, and x-ray clinic. Administration buildings, Dormitories, Classroom buildings, Crematorium, and Community building w/ greenhouse, and a room entirely filled with x-rays and incident reports of patients dating 1968 to 1987. But the Hospital was supposedly closed in 1982. Anyway, a 400 foot elevated water tower amidst a grouping of trees overlooks the compound. Hauntings have been orbs, streaks, and hazes of light recorded on film, both video and 35 mm print film, sounds of breathing and shuffling on tape recorders, wheelchairs and beds moved to different locations, feeling of being watched and followed throughout Infirmary and Recreational Center. One person has had a camera smacked out of her hand and when she picked it up & smacked out of her hand a second time, music on car radio when driving into the compound even when the radio was off. Outdoors, shadows of people move across fields in the distance into the woods; these shadows have been known to sneak up sometimes, and sort of disappear. Leaves blow in the most mild and calm of weather. One July 3rd, 2002 a group of explorers were in the 3rd floor nurses station at 11:30pm when from darkness of the long causeway connecting the infirmary to another building, came the sound of something slowly dragging what sounded like a piano with it's chords echoing for about 4 seconds...it suddenly stopped...and all four of us suddenly looked at each other with panic written all over our faces. They all watched the color drain out of each others faces as they knew they all heard the same thing, then left immediately.

Providence - Benefit Street - Historic Benefit Street, with it's historic homes, is said to be the most haunted location in RI. There have been numerous sightings along this street. One in particular, is of a horse drawn carriage, seen by several people over the years. There have also been sightings of an old woman in the attic window of one of the historic homes that line this street. There has even been reference to the spirit of Edgar Allen Poe walking the streets of this area during the early morning hours. Apparently, Poe had been dating a woman from this area before his death.

Providence - Johnson and Wales University - A dormitory that used to be a monastery is supposedly haunted by a nun that went crazy nearly 60 years ago. She is seen walking on all the floors late at night. Also one of the rooms on the second floor has walls that bleed.

Rumford - Wannamoisett country club - At night if you drive on bent road, and step out of your car and walk about 20 steps onto the 18th fairway of Wannamoisett country club you will 2 Indians riding on horses that will come chasing towards you if you are seen. They have been known to run to the people watching and disappear right before it hits you.

South Kingstown - Great Swamp - This was a place of a massacre that took place during the colonial era. There was a battle between the colonists and the Indians. This was called a massacre because the Indians were not prepared against the advanced weaponry of the colonists. Now this place has been a burial ground of the Indians at night you could still hear the war cries, and gunshots and screaming and crying that took place and see Indians dressed in war regalia walking through the swamp.

One of my collegue at work use to live in an appartement where at times he could recive a drop of blood from the ceiling and their was no blood on it, andif he lean his ear on the floor he could ear scream and kids runing..he leave on the first floor and no one was living in the basement or next door, it was hapening when no one was in the building, it was a 3 appartement building.

The cost...a great loss of life for both sides. As a result, there is an enormous amount of paranormal activity all through the town but especially along the banks of the Wabash River where that historical battle took place.
The smell of gun powder lingers in the air, even the smell of death. Apparitions, orbs and the like have been witnessed. I am not sure if there are any photos but now that I am thinking about it...I will find out.

I live in the Panhanle of Florida. There are two cemeteries and a spot on the Yellow River that are haunted. They are all within 5 miles of each other.

Charleston - Capital High School Theater - The theater of Capital High School is haunted by an unknown specter. Students and faculty alike have reported feeling a "presence", often while working late to prepare for school productions. If you are quite, you can hear footsteps walking across the stage leading into the workshop. The most common haunting is the mysterious dimming of lights, even when the sound booth is locked and no one is in there. No one knows for sure who or what haunts the theater; however, many have claimed that they do not feel threatened by the occurrences.

And in that slightly eccentric way of the English, the most famous haunting close to me is not human, but the family ape!

The historical ghost of Athelhampton Estate is that of an Ape, which belonged to one of the Martyns in the sixteenth century. This is also the emblem of the Martyn Family which can be seen in their coat of arms in the stained glass of the Great Hall.

When the line ceased in 1595 the ape roamed the house looking for its new master, finding only the four daughters.

The haunting can be heard as the beast tries to escape from the secret staircase and cellar it was trapped in....

I live in Madison,WI, and while there are a few hauntings in the area I think the COOLEST thing in the area is the Beast of Bray Rd. It's a werewolf rumor, but the cops in the local township are all issued one silver bullet. Just in case.

There is a rural road in our area that passes through swamps. Some nights a light can be seen, there have been reports of people being pursued by this light. I have never seen it or evidence. It has been chalked up as swamp gas by most, but who really knows?

i only know of one in cleveland. its a place called Franklin Castle. some really old mansion that ppl say has claimed the lives of 23 people in 50 yrs

i also know a fewl where i used to live. down in lisbon ohio there is gretchens lock wheere the old erie canal used to be. some guy that builds em came to england to build the lock he brought his daughter with him and she died while he was building. he buried her there til he was done. and took her home, but his ship sank. ppl say they see her once a week at midnight looking for her dad or something like that. i know boring story. ill quit now

I don't know of any in the area I'm living in currently but where I was born there was sotterly plantation and point lookout...this is in S.t Mary's county, MD if you're wondering...plus it's only about and hour and a half drive from where the blair witch and exorcist happened

Knox House, Co.Londonderry : said to be haunted by a headless coachman riding out after midnight with his passengers. It is said that he was racing to the gallows to fight for his Master who was hung from a tree on Derry Walls.

I live in Georgia near St. SImon's Island and we have ghost stories at a resort here and the story has been in at least one book that I know of. I can't seem to remember the name of the book though.

It's right next to a gothy bar/coffeehouse that I frequent, and does cheap, short tours.

Apparently there are many loyal servants that haven't quite given up on serving there, and many incidents are reported by the staff of things being rearranged or noises of people moving about in the house.

My neighborhood (which is sueper quiet) used to be a fishing village/all girls college. Te campus spread for many miles. One day , without warning it was closed down. Whe i went exploration driving around the backroas, i found an old dilapidated house. the house had lights on on what could only be the upstairs attic. The driveway was chained off with rusted chains no one dared to pick at. Iparked my car at the netrancebecause I am stupid like that and watched the house.
After a while I could see two figures walking toward the window. One of them pointed at my car and suddenly the porch light came on. It was unnaturally bright so I thought aliene were going to abduct and probe my booty...Needless to say, I peele dout of there and never looked back. I found out in the town library that it was an asylum adn there were many mysterious deaths due to medical experimentation there. Furthermore, there should not have been people let alone power there since ithadbeen shit down in the early 50's.

So many castles in Ireland, too many ghosts. My favourite is Dunluce Castle, but tis a real tale of ghosts crying from the ocean when their castle kitchen broke free from the cliff top and tumbled into the Atlantic Ocean. All perished, and their wail screams to the passing ships and sailors when the sea is high. :)

Out here we have Arcadia University. It used to be called Beaver College. It is of a modernistic castle design and boasts its history. It has been host to at least 3 accidental deaths, the most prominent of which is the time when a Young girl's scarf became intertwined in such a way on a stairwell, that it swung her around and over the stairs and hung her. It's a glorious campus, and there is a bit of a rumor of it being built on top of or close to an old cemetery.

I live in Mexico in a place called Saltillo Coahuila and 5 minutes from here is a place called Arteaga Couahuil where almost every single house and part of it is haunted. People usually seen witches, My aunt has a house there and me and my family have seen this littl boy staring at us and opening and closing the door and we've heard a baby cry. It's pretty cool but really creepy.

I live in Philadelphia and every house on my street is haunted. We all have seen soldiers or indians in our houses and most of us including myself have had poulterguists. We tend to wonder if our houses were built on a burial ground of some sort

its not where i live now but when i resided in England there was a hotel, St george hotel, and it was haunted by an old watch man. he'd bene poinsoned y other guards who were actually trying to kill someone staying at the hotel who was in politics. Since then ppl have sene him walkin back and fourth at his designated post.

The Mental Hospital and College Campus in Athens,Ohio are haunted and the city actually has a pentagram set around it by cemeteries by the Masons.

This is about hour and a half from my house.

The Barbee Hotel - The Barbee Hotel was considered a very high-class resort during Al Capone's time. He stayed in the hotel frequently, often clearing out all the guests so he could stay in seclusion. He always stayed in room 301 at the back of the hotel. When cleaning the rooms employees have smelled cigar smoke and when investigated it is coming from room 301. The bartender who has worked there for years has seen an old man sitting at one of the booths on several occasions. When she goes to get someone, he is gone. People have reported hearing footsteps on the stairs, and in the halls above the dining area. Many parties when taking their picture will line up on the stairs. There are several pictures on the wall where you can see orbs of light in the background behind the group. Many other celebrities stayed there as well. Rita Hayworth was said to go and stay in her room for days at a time. When you drive by the area of the hotel she stayed in late at night sometimes you can see a faint light.

there was an archway here that had a spirit "trapped" inside it... I have been many many times and seen the woman who loked to be waiting for someone the archway was a site marker for a freemason who had passed away... no backstory is known for the woman... andin the past few months the arch has been... demolished not sure why either...

i am in Shreveport La a couple of hours away in Arcadia La is where Bonnie and Clyde were shot and killed and they say that every night you can see the car drive by and hear the shots.

Also in Jefferson Texas (a couple of hours in the other direction) is the haunted hotel its great i stayed there once

Here in Coldwater, Michigan we have the Halstead House. The house is haunted by the ghost of 2 children.

Up in Madrid, New Mexico... well, it's a little hippy arts town now, but you can feel the presence of other things there, even in the day...

The entire town and surrounding hills - Madrid was a coal mining town in the 1800's through 1940's until it became an abandoned ghost town. In the 1970's hippies, artist and outlaws began rebuilding it and it is alive today. The entire town has been site of numerous ghost sightings, most notably in certain houses, the old miners/town cemetery, the old church (now a house)and the surrounding arroyos. Apparitions range from sightings of la llarona in the arroyos, silent cowboys escorting a Spanish woman in fine dress though mainstreet, and various ghostly forms at the cemetery. I dont know how you would consider if it is famous or not, but there is a house down the road from me that has been abandoned for over ten years and the people that used to live in it claim that it is haunted. They say that underneath the wallpaper is marks "of the devil" and that the lights used to go on and off and a lot of weird stuff........ before they lived in it, there was a rumor that someone died there. Even my grandparents used to say that it was haunted. I live in Ohio, by the way....

Famous indeed, books and a movie was recently released. How-ever I must say that the movie was a bit off from the actual events, as hollywood does tend to"spruce" things up a bit. I actually know the family decendants.....where may I be speaking about....Adams Tennessee, also famously known as the BELL WITCH. I usally take people there to scare the crap out of them, and it does indeed work. As you enter Adams Tennessee, you begin to notice, even the trees take odd shapes. There has been many television shows and even discovery channel has done a program on it, though their cameras would quit working each time they try and film the Cave. Normally I will take my board with me, usually requested, when I enter the cave. The land was a sacred land from long before, to the Native Americans, and it too increased the spiritual activities. People from all over the world go there.
Also, I live on a part of the Trail of Tears, also known to be haunted, as many had died from their walks,if you listen, you can hear them.
Also Fort Donalson is here by me....In Dover Tennessee ( i live between Bell Witch farm and Fort Donalson) of the civil war erra. Many men died there, and again, it is haunted and you can hear their cries if you listen. They did not die by the hands of the yankees, but from deseases they gained during battle. Some did die from war fighting, and those are the loudest screams you can hear.
I am also just miles from Indian Mound, again , a sacred indian barial ground,you can hear and see many things there.
There is also the Tahern Mansion just 15 minutes from me, It housed many slaves in its days, and brutally killed many. Again, many sightings are reported there and also in history books as hauntings.
Also the Laretta Lyns Mansion...Civil war erra there as well, and also many programs and movies made from those hauntings, still active. There are many books about the Hauntings in Tenessee, check them out, it may just curl your toes. Of all the places listed above, They are all still active hauntings and you can find out the history in the web or books, even movies.Also the Presidant Andrew Jacksons home, again, just minutes away from me, Also still Active in hauntings.So anytime you want to visit a place with many active hauntings,Make a trip to Tennessee, for you will not be dissapointed if your thrill is active Hauntings. Not for the weak. I could go on and on, but it is best if you check out a book about Tennessee Hauntings,or check the web, as it will take hours to tell all the Famous Hauntings here, and their Tales.

There have been reports of many hauntings in the area but nothing that is famous....there is a place called Hartford Hall that is rumoured to have load groans and screaming in the dead of the night....

well theres a few by ours. I live in Liverpool in the united kingdom, 200 miles from London.. etc... but there has been reporting over the past like... years and years lol.. not very precise but its uncertain when and in the graveyard by mine theres meabt to be lots of hauntings and straynge things going on. i mean theres the white lady. It was raining at night and she just flew (literally) into a car and made it crash. shes done it a few times and theres the girl called Joidie who was crying at the bus stop and then a man told her to come with him as she was supposedly a hot whore or something. she ran in to the cemetary and the man who was trying to chat her up followed her in there and looked for her but she was nowhere to be seen. Then on one of the gravestones that he eventually came to he looked down just at that minute and saw a photograph on a gravestone of the woman jodie who he had just been standing with (the woman who was crying)
There have been lots more, to many to tell right now but if you are interested you can find out in Haunted Liverpool by Tom Slemen, he has like 12 books or something. Ive read them all and theyre all really intriguing. Its amazing to find out that theres so many stories on each site you encounter.

There are supposedly several hounted buildings and areas in my city. I went on a "Ghostwalk". I should have kept my ten bucks and just wandered around downtown by myself! The only place where you get actual activity, in the form of orbs, is the Devil's Punch Bowl. Exciting at first yes, but even orbs get old after awhile. =/

One interesting fact is that one of the people suspected of being Jack The Ripper (Francis Tumblety) actually resided in Hamilton for a little while. There were two unexplained murders in the back alley of the building he lived in. Spooooky!

I have been to quite a few haunted places in Michigan.

My two most favorite would have to be.

The Ada Witch.

A man suspected his wife to be having an affair. When she left one night, he followed her into the woods. This is where she met her lover. He was so enraged with anger, he killed her. This in turn, caused the men to struggle with one another. They both died due to the fight.

There are two places that is said to be where she haunts. One being the cemetery she is buried in, another being the woods where she was killed.

I have been to both places.

The cemetery is a very small older one. We went there one night. There was a lady that stands guard on the weekend of Halloween. The vandals are horrid around that time of year. The group was turned away from the cemetery focusing on her story. My friend and I were watching inside the cemetery. There is a grave that has an eternal flame on it. That is where we seen her twice. She passed behind the flame.

I asked the lady if anyone has seen her before. She said yes a few times. I described what I seen, she looked at me and said," By god you seen her."

The woods where the fight took place:

There is a small bridge that connects the woods to the trail. There's a rather wide creek that flows. Over the top of the bridge was a log. The log was so large it would have taken 5 men to lift it. The woods were very quiet. So quiet it was a deafening silence. We stopped in front of the log. One time someone tried to pass over it, the woods came alive. You heard growling, bird’s squawking, rocks being thrown in the water. When you pulled your hand back it stopped. This went on for about 20 minutes. No one could make it fully over the log before the woods started to go wild.

Another time we were walking on the trail at night. We had rocks thrown at our feet.

We have been walking and have a dark figure walk along side of us. We've heard whispers saying Get out now. There have been screams heard. If you go to the place where the death happens it is at least 20 degrees warmed in that spot than 5 feet away. There is also a clearing in between some trees. People have stood there and yelled and no one can hear them. The people were standing 10 feet away.

The orbs in the woods will try to lure you off the trails. You will then get lost in the woods.


My other favorite place is called Hell's Bridge.

There is a turn around out in the middle of nowhere. You can see a trail that goes back into woods. If you follow that trail you will find a metal bridge out in the middle of nowhere. A man was killing children and throwing them off the bridge. He said the devil made him do it.

The tale goes that if you are on the bridge at midnight you can hear the devil laughing.
You can also hear the cries and water splashes.

We seen and heard exactly that. You can hear the children crying faintly. We heard sounds like bodies being thrown into the water. When you looked down after the sound you could see what seemed to look like large things floating down stream. We also saw a dark figure running back in the woods.

I live in Ky and there are several local hauntings around here. There is the Bell Witch, which if you have seen American Haunting you got the wrong message, thats actually in TN but ver close to where I live. There is also a legend called "The Amanda Tree" that is about a black woman that worked for a family. The family was not ethnically friendly and when the man found out his son was sleeping with her, the father killed her and they buried her under a still growing tree in the backyard. As the tree grew it began to take the shape of her profile...which is very evident when you see the picture of her and the pic of the tree. I tried to locate the webstie but havent had any luck so if you want to research it yourself then KET network did the show.

Theres quite a few places in TN that are considered haunted. The Stones River Nat'l Battlefield in my hometown is haunted in certain areas. Theres a town over thats supposedly haunted in Chapel Hill.....

i live in oshawa, about a half hour drive from port perry and the Jesters House. its now a restaurant. its supposedly haunted. i never fully believed that. it used to be an old house that burned down. they say the people who died in the fire are haunting it. after a visit there, i believe it. i was walking up the stairs and thought i seen someone hiding behind a suit of aurmour they have. there was no one else there. all that night i kept hearing voices and finding no one. shortly after that night i was out walking and seen what i thought was a little girl in the middle of the main street. i did some research and found a girl that fits her description from the fire in port perry. is it possible this little girl decided to follow me? some sort of protection or warning? i dunno but she shows up just before something bad happens.

here in MAryland there are many historic buildings wich claim to be haunted. one of the main areas being Ellicott City, there Is a Old Insane asylum, and womens mental hospital wich both burned down the same night. Well not completely down I have been there on dark moonless nights and have seen and herd some weird stuff. But i have found that the front lawn of the womens mental hospital is a great place to call the corners. We ahve had many sucess in contacting spirits most wanting to know what happen and why. All we can say is what we dont know why a reason for the fires was never descovered.

Where i live it is not the buildings that are haunted it is the whole area. They keep digging up civil war bodies while doing construction, and there are civil war cemeteries all over the place, but most of the buildings are not that old. In Burlington 15 miles away or so there are a few crack houses that have had many murders and that area is really full of negative energy.

a town about 10 minutes away has a cemetary with a haunted grave. if you sit on top of the grave, you get pushed off.

in my area there is an abondoned village! i live in normanton in england and ther eare woods near me that have a village caleld newland there is the farm house manor hosue there is everthing there to make up a complete village only tehre are no people! and the houses are all falling down! but they are all haunted the most famous being the house that is white! the roumer was that an old lady was murderd/ or burnt to death in the house ( the house has an upstairs and a down stairs) the upstairs has been completly taken out as it is unsafe but people have seen the old lady walking past the upstairs windows!
and there is a coffin in the cellar!

i live in westren Pa and none that i know of are famous unless you are a local just ask anyone in smicksburg there is a ton but oh wait there is one near me livermore cemetary the town where night of the living dead was filmed

Personal favourite is Tutbury Castle however, one of the first Norman Castles founded after 1066, was the state home of the Kings of England durring the 14th century, John of Gaunt lived there for many years, and a generally facinating place, mostly destoryed during the civil war by Cromwell it is in a bit of a state of disrepair.

There are a number of ghosts, and I've run a fair few ghosts hunts there, and I've experienced any number of very unusual hautings, a VERY exciting place to be late at night on your own! :-)

There was a cinema in bath that was haunted by the ghost of the man who the cinema was named after.Beau nash.he paid many a visit to users of the cinema,it was where his house used to be and where he died.and bath has a fare few other haunts aswell.

THE HANNAH HOUSE
Indianapolis, Indiana

Far removed from the slave-holding plantations of the south is a historic home in Indianapolis, Indiana called the Hannah House. But even here, in the northern states, the specter of slavery, and of the Underground Railroad, still manages to make itself known.

The house was built in 1858 by Alexander Moore Hannah, a prominent figure in Indiana history. Originally, the house had been constructed to house Hannah and his staff but at age 51, he married Elizabeth Jackson and another wing was added on for the servants.

Hannah was well-known in Indiana for his stand against slavery. It was a time of coming change in America where political opponents fiercely debated the question of slavery and President James Buchanan openly supported it. Hannah was a firm abolitionist and this is the reason his former home has such a reputation for being haunted.

The source of the haunting remained a mystery for some time. The stately mansion had seen few owners over the years and unlike most haunted houses, had seen little in the way of trauma or death... or so most people believed.

Hannah himself had owned the home until 1899, when his heirs sold the place to another family. Since that time, there have been reports of many strange things in the house, moving objects, phantom sounds -- and the unexplainable smell of death. Apparently, the Hannah House held a dark secret and one that would not be easily explained away by saying that one of the Hannah’s had returned to haunt the house. This secret was much darker -- and much more terrible.

The legends of the house say that prior to the outbreak of the Civil War, Hannah’s staunch abolitionist views had led him to allow the house to be used as a station on the Underground Railroad. Escaped slaves were brought into the house at night and given shelter until the following nightfall. Then, the Hannah’s would load the slaves into a wagon and they would be transported to the next station. We have to remember how dangerous this was, especially to a person of Hannah’s standing. This was a time when even assisting an injured runaway slave could be punishable by law.

Legend has it that one night, a lantern was overturned in the basement of the house and a number of slaves were trapped by the flames. Several of them burned to death. The fire did extensive damage to the basement and the lower floors of the house. While the fire was being put out, the source of the blaze had to be kept hidden and the fact that the house was an Underground Railroad station had to be covered up. Many believe that this this is the reason that no one knew the source of the haunting for so long. Or so it's thought. Like many other legends, no one has been able to verify that this event actually occurred. As with other alleged locations on the Underground Railroad, hard facts are difficult to find. Due to the secretive nature of the operation as a whole, no written records were kept and so we have only oral tales to pass along. If the fire never took place then the house has been haunted for decades for unknown reasons but one this is sure, it has a long history of being haunted.

For many years, investigators and past owners claimed that one of the upstairs rooms of the house would sometimes smell like gangrene and decay and this odor was attributed to the death of the slaves in the house. Many years ago, this earned the house the nickname of "the house that reeks of death" but according to current owners, the smell no longer manifests here. Was this simply a part of the lore of the house or did it really occur? According to past reports, the smell was unexplainably genuine but at least this part of the haunting seems to have faded away.

However, continuing phenomena includes the sounds of moaning and whining and it has also been said that doors in the house suddenly open and close by themselves. Cold drafts are also sometimes felt when no windows are open to cause them.

The secrets that remain at Hannah House are certainly dark ones, and be the haunting a conscious or a residual one, it still continues to plague the curators of this historic mansion today.



Indianapolis is located in the center of the state and the Hannah House can be found at the comer of National and Madison Avenue.

i live in ark city Kansas, and i don't know about "famous" but theres this place here in a woodsy area called "spooky-hollow" and thats where the klu klux klan hang out. it's also said to be haunted by people the kkk have killed there and car accidents that have happened up there, and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Certain "hauntings" become famous when many people have seen it, or when the situation is very bad. Wouldn't it be more fun, and safer, to seek out a "haunting" that not so many know about?

This road is like a mile from where I live...I myself travel this road everyday and have lived here for 8 months and have never experienced any of these claims...

The historic Amana Colonies, located not far from Iowa City, were formed in 1854 by a group of mystical Lutherans who came west from New York. The settlers, calling themselves, the "Community of True Inspiration", came west to live a simple existence on the Iowa prairie.
What they hadn't counted on were the many ghosts!

Geist Ecke, or "Ghost Corner", was believed to be haunted by a variety of strange and frightening spirits who have been witnessed many times over the years. They are said to be white, filmy apparitions.

It is said that the area known as Indian Dam, which was built by members of the Sauk nation over three hundred years ago, is haunted by their restless spirits. On nights of the full moon, reports claim that the sound of drums and Indian chants can be heard there. One of the traditions of the area was for the local children to place pine boughs on the graves of the children who perished in years past. It was said that the spirits of the children in the Main Amana Cemetery would rise up on Christmas and claim the pine boughs that had been left in their honor.

It is also said that a pale blue light can be seen over the grave of Mary Wright in the Sprague Cemetery. It is said to appear during the final minute of every year. Mary died in 1854, at the age of six, and the light has reportedly been seen ever since.

The seven Amana Colonies are located just west of Iowa City in east central Iowa. Ghost Comer (Geist Ecke) is a sharp bend in the road between Middle and High Amana. Indian Dam is north of Homestead on the Iowa River. Mary's grave is the only marker left in the old Sprague Cemetery, which is just west of Homestead.

It has been said that there are a few places around 25th street in Ogden, UT, near the Union Station, where trains once brought many people to the little town in the midwest.

This brought along not only the good folk, but the bad ones as well. At one time, the historical 25th street was home to much crime, sex and lots of murder. From these murders stem many ghosts stories and sightings.

In fact, that in the 1920's mob box Al Capone stated that "Ogden was too rough a town for him!" (ref: click here for info)

Sadly there is little talk of ghosts in a Mormon dominated state, and such stories are almost impossible to find.

However, there is a more known story about Highway 666, which is the sixth branch of Route 66. :) It seems there have been many strange happenings and accidents on that stretch of road, now pretty much abandoned... it's just a dirt road today, and has also been renamed to Hightway 191 in most parts, except in New Mexico. It is true, that those that have seen the movie, "the bell witch"....is so far from the truth that I was truely puzzled as to how they could set such a movie, so far from the truth.
If anyone wants to learn more about the Bell witch......get the book......but be careful, there are several of them, the best one, is the one from the family itself,,,not the professior or heirs. It is in adams tennessee......john adams jr. had written the true events of the Bell Witch....there are the graves,the cave (extremely hautning) and natureally the land and old school house (now a museum).
