Ever since I was younger than I can remember, I've been able to control what happens in my dream as if I was God of my own world. I don't know how I do this. I just do. Does anyone else have this ability?
Not exactly. Only rarely can I say to myself its just a dream and be in control of it. The most I can really do is that I can fly and or levitate in my dreams at will.
but to those who always realize your dreams.. could something as simple as to make yourself forget things you dont wish to recall.. or is there a method in which to learn a controling dream...?
People sleep on different level's. For example, some people you can push and shove and they still wont wake up >.< Other's you merely have to whisper in there ear and there awake.
I suppose in your dream's you must be semi-concious. Are you still tired when you wake up?
Different level's of sleep would account for the intensisty of dreams to. Sometime's its feels like you were actually there, other time's, you know your asleep and you know your dreaming.
Interesting thread :)
There actually is a form of control in which if you are able to bring to your subconscious that you are conscious then you are able to control that of said dreams or nightmares.By fooling your subconscious into believing your awake and conscious of your acts then it lays dormant sorta like the tongue we do not talk 24/7 with it and it rests however due to brain waves from the brain to the tongue it has the ability to pick up words again. So I believe it all has to do with gaining enough will power to tell your dream your awake you know its a dream and you will do what you want in it.
I usually control half of my dreams.
And I can also fly when others can't
If you could accomplish this that you speak of, would it be possible to control absolutely everything in your dream? What if something odd happened...an accident. If you have yourself convinced that your dream is reality, could you die in real life if you died in your dream?
Perhaps I read your response incorrectly..
irregardless, could this be possible? Can you control EVERY aspect of your dream, with no surprises around the corner?
Dream control can be a very liberating, and therapeutic experience and a powerful skill when achieved or mastered. Not only does it allow you to control aspects of your dream, but it can also enable you to fulfill dreams that may never be achieved because they are physically impossible or they would never actually happen in real life.
It is said that it can enhance self-confidence and low self-esteem also as it occurs when the individual really believes it to be happening. I had the pleasure of making myself fly twice through dream control and it was such an amazing and lucid dream. At the time I blamed it on the rave scene in the early 90’s ;P
I have many times been able to control my dreams and was aware in the dream that I am sleeping and dreaming. I think it is called Lucid dreams....not sure. Anyway, there are the other times though when I am simply haveing good dreams or bad nightmares with out the control.
I can't always control my dreams because I get scared or excited then it just happens
I hardly ever even remember my dreams, so I guess that's a no on my part.
Though, when I do remember what my dreams were about it's usually stuff that was on my mind before I fell asleep.
So in a sense I can sort of control dreams, though what I dream about instead of controling what I do in the dream.
Dream control is a powerful tool. Only some people can master it. I'm happy to say that I can as well.
This is lucid dreaming. Anyone can learn to do it with practice. It can be quite difficult at first. The first step is too realize you are dreaming. This is the tricky part because most people tend to wake up once they realize its a dream. There is tons of info on the web about it.
i think lucid dreaming is something you can learn to control and others seem to have a knack for doing it without even thinking. ive been able to do it for years.
I dont remember any dreams that I have. So controlling them I guess would be impossible
I just wake up whenever I don't enjoy how the dream is going. I don't really know if I can change the happenings.
For me, I've forced myself to do things, for example if i "thought " i was missing something important, I could make myself go back to see whatever it was i missed, or if i was sleeping and knew i had to do something irl that was important...I could do things to make myself wake up like, make myself think i was falling off the bed or make myself jump from someplace high so that in my dream i am falling and the feeling of knots in my stomach would usually wake me. Stuff like that. ^^ So yes I can control certain things in my dreams but not everything. :)
I have done this on many occasions. When I first experienced a lucid dream I would wake up soon after realizing I was half awake/half asleep. Eventually I got to where I could stay in that middle ground without fully awakening. Strangely enough it only happens with particular things that I dream about and not something I have chosen.
I can at times. I wish I could all the time because a lot of my dreams are less than pleasant. I would go into the whole medical side of lucid dreaming etc but I'm rather tired lol.
Most people can control their dreams on occasion but it is rare to be able to all the time.
This is really a skill I would like to learn. I don't remember most of my dreams...and people, we dream EVERY night... The only dreams I remember are nightmares which I wake up from, that's the extent of my dream control. The problem I run into is I can't wake up until my fear is so bad I wake crying, shaking, or screaming. I have been trying to work on changing my dreamscape but about the time I realize it's a dream...I wake up.
well with me it seems i can control my freams but not all the time though.maybe when i am not in deep sleep i can control it or maybe there is some different reason for this .
I can barely even remember my dreams at times so if I were to control them, it'd be lost on me. I really wouldn't end up having a clue if I did or what I did.
I too can controle my dreams, It was something i learnt in past lives. Having learnt it centuarys ago you are able to tap into the knowledge and aply it today with out even realising. it often take people decades to learn what we can already do.
it is very hard to tap into the dream world, for me anyway.... I have decided that I am not going to worry about what dreams I have.....
I do occasionally try to get into other people's dreams, I don't know if it works or not
Dreams/nightmares occures in you REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, right before you go into a *cataplextic stage of deep sleep.
During this REM cycle you can learn to control your dreams, by fooling your subconsiousness. A good way to do it is to create a "safe place" in your mind where you can go to, a place you feel comfortable or a happy memory. Focus on it before you lay down to sleep and let all other thoughts go and stay in your safe place. When you master the technique you are able to let go of your nightmares and fall into the deep sleep easier.
*Cataplexy is extreme relaxation or weakening of the muscles, the body does this to prevent you from harming yourself.
It is also a side disease with narcolepsy and can be dangerous if the case is severe.
I don't usually remember my dreams. On the rare occasion I do, it's usually a nightmare. Controlling them, no I can't seem to do that.
Here is something I posted in the past on the topic. It might be helpful to some.
One of the hurdles of getting to lucid dreaming is the fact that our minds seem to be willing to accept almost anything at the time, even if you wake up with that "What the hell?" feeling after.
Recalling your dreams is a very important part of it. Keeping a dream journal is suggested. Lucid dreaming is associated with REM sleep which is a deeper, later part of the sleep phase. So, if you aren't getting a lot of sleep you probably wont have much success.
One of the first steps in having one is to realize that you are dreaming. This can be done with "reality checks." Looking to see if a clock is running backwards or acting abnormally is the most recognizable one to me. Looking in the mirror to see if the image is distorted or blurry works well too. Basically just look for things that are out of place and make a note of it.
The next problem is becoming very excited once you realize you are dreaming and snapping awake. This is fairly common. Do your best to stay relaxed and the realization that you are dreaming. This isn't always an easy thing to do. Something I was told about is spinning. If you find yourself waking up, force yourself to stand in one spot and spin in a circle. This will usually keep you dreaming but it could also cause things to change quite drastically. So, another reality check might be needed.
This is just the start. I will post more information later.
no, i can't control my dreams at all, cant control what I dream about, or when I dream about it, or whether or not I'll remember my dreams. it's quite annoying at times.
Yea, i can lucid dream, and before i go to sleep i can decide what i want to dream about.
I think its kind of hard to control your dreams because with me sometimes I would remember them and sometime I would. I was told that the ones I should remember would be the ones that make me talk in my sleep? I don't know how true that is, does anyone else? I also believe that sometimes we can't remember are dreams to control and act on them
I used to when I was younger, but have had little control over them the older I have become.
I can control my dreams at times, then again other times have to choice in the matter. Just force myself to wake up on a dream I am not enjoying. But I also tend to act out my dreams, as in talking in my sleep or even body movements. All in all I enjoy dreaming (for the most part).
Picking up on what someone said earlier about going to sleep and having planned what they want to dream about....
I do that every night with the intent of dreaming about something in particular, but every night without fail this never happens and I normally dream about something trivial like doing domestic chores that I haven't done in weeks... (I'm not a fanatical housekeeper shame on me)
However, two nights ago I was to tired to think about potential dreams and low and behold it happened and it was as marvelous had I have planned every tiny minuscule detail beforehand. In fact I think it was even better ;P
I do only when I know that I'm dreaming which is once in a while.
The only thing I can do is wake myself up out of a nightmare.
Sometimes I can and have, but usually I'm so deep into the dream I just don't think to. And if its a bad dream, I tend to just go with it to see where it takes me.
i can at most times control my dreams but, it all depends on what mood i fall asleep in,
I agree, it depends on my mood whe I go to bed. There have been times where I had dreams that were in black and white and some dreams I could control the music that I heard. LOL, kinda like I have a soundtrack to my dreams.
Some folks claim they can, which I believe is possible. Or also lucid dreaming, which allows that person to have more control.
Interesting, I for one never knew such things could occur.
But if you can indeed have some form of control over your dreams, how do actually know you're controlling it?
I mean I'm not saying I don't believe it's possible, I just want to know how you acyually know you're controlling what you dream
I know for myself that I can't controle my dreams, but I can direct them to a degree.
I learned as a child to combat night terrors. I was taught by my mother and I have been teaching it to my children.
It is not always easy though. I find it works best, for me, on reoccuring dreams. At least it gives me peace of mind and easier sleep some nights. :)
XMitsix, its its pretty easy to tell really. Just just make the decision to do things. Its just like choosing which direction to walk in or which song to put on your stereo. Its hard to explain to someone who has never experienced it but thats really how it is.
If I am aware I am dreaming, then yes, I try to make it a point to talk to those who are in the dream with me. Other times, I have no control.
I truly wish I possessed this gift! My dreams last evening were of a crazy roller-coster ride and boat rides. So true to the major changes I've made in my life! :0o
A lucid dream, also known as a conscious dream, is a dream in which the person is aware that he or she is dreaming while the dream is in progress. When the dreamer is lucid, he or she can actively participate in the dream environment without any of the inhibitions or limitations that otherwise would feel natural to persons who incorrectly believe they are in the "real" waking world. Lucid dreams can be extremely real and vivid depending on a person's level of self-awareness during the lucid dream.
A lucid dream can begin in one of two ways. A dream-initiated lucid dream (DILD) starts as a normal dream, and the dreamer eventually concludes that he or she is dreaming, while a wake-initiated lucid dream (WILD) occurs when the dreamer goes from a normal waking state directly into a dream state with no apparent lapse in consciousness.
Lucid dreaming has been researched scientifically, and its existence is well established. Scientists such as Allan Hobson, with his neurophysiological approach to dream research, have helped to push the understanding of lucid dreaming into a less speculative realm.
That is true, Lucid dreaming is no "gift." It is something that can be learned by anyone I believe. Most people just stumble on it after they have a few.
For me personally, its easier to slip into a lucid dream if it seems more far fetched because its easier to recognize that I'm dreaming.
For example, last night I had the most realistic set of nightmares I have had in a long, long time. It never even occurred to me that I was dreaming because everything was so real. Therefor, I never even attempted to take control. I'm sure it varies from person to person though.
I have never been able to do this. Mostly because I never realize when I'm dreaming. I think that is the real trick, to know your dreaming....then you can control it.
As jack of spades said it is lucid dreams and anyone can learn.
Lucid dream is often mistaken for astral ascending.
I belive because most try astral ascending in bed and soon become lucid not astral.
Best way to become a dream walker is to set your alarm an hour before you normally wake. Get up go pee and get back into bed and start to focus on a dream path or venue or topic… you will control it and as you keep doing this you will eventually learn when things are not normal your in dream world and walking your mind.
Great in nightmares as you stop things and move around or become.
As you advance you learn to smell flowers n trees or feel stones and so forth. As your awake and you smell the flowers you smelt in dream state it jolts your mind to what you were doing in your sleep.
Only problem to look for is something not controlled by you … this is astral beings of sorts and mine is a succubus.
When you get good at this you can walk other peoples dreams sometimes….
i can't control my dreams, never been able to. and i've never met anyone who could.
i cant control my dreams, only on rear occasions, not nightmares, that i can control my dream.
I cannot control my dreams. However, I hardly ever remember any of my dreams so maybe I do control them.
Sometimes I can make myself not have a dream. But other than that, no
I have had lucid dreams naturally all of my life. It is something I did not learn to do but rather learned how to control on my own.
I began to realize that I was having acutal feeling and utterly real emotions while I was dreaming. These were not all nightmares but dreams that were pleasant as well.
Lucid dreaming can be learned and i thought I be nice and include a website where you can get some tips on how to control your dreams.
www.consciousdreaming.com
Check it out and Have fun exploring your dreams!
I somewhat control what I dream about. Its like while I'm trying to go to sleep I think about what I want to dream about and sometimes it happens. But I can't control what happens in my dreams. I do wish I had that ability though.
Unfortunately I sometimes get stuck in my dreams due to taking sleeping pills...I wind up not being able to wake up.
Thank you for posting that link.
I can recall controlling a dream only once, and it was pretty recent. I was in a car that went off of a bridge - I and the others in the car were freaking out, of course - plus, I can't swim. In the dream, I kept trying to calm myself by saying 'It's only a dream - wake up' over and over...then I woke up.
My dreams are usually based off of what I'm thinking or watching before hand.
Although it usually ends up a bit twisted.
E.g. I watch Friday the 13th and end up playing tag with Jason Vorhees.
I've been told that a vampyr..can possibly control a dream of YOURS. You would be on his/her playing level. Is that true for some of you? ^^
If you have the power to achieve changing the outcome of a dream whilst still asleep then I am not sure if one would actually be in a "deep sleep" I know when I dream and if I don't like something in it that I often wake up, and like Weffie then I would attempt to go back "in" with a view to changing it :)
Sometimes I can, sometimes I cant. When Im in a lighter sleep I find it easier...
Well my dreams are such a myriad of different times & periods but on occasion I've wanted to dream I was a vampyre and hey it worked but maybe thats cause i already am VV
I've wondered about controlling my dreams for quite some time.
Just recently though, I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to control them.
First, I've never had a nightmare.
Second, my dreamworlds are always better than the real one.
Why fudge up a good thing?
There are different types of dreams, some are wish fullfilling, some are prophetic dreams, some are dreams of past events, some are just fun dreams.
It would not be a great idea to try to control a prophetic dream, as you would then mess the message that is trying to be conveyed. Dreams of the pass should also not be controlled since in having them we are trying to cleanse our minds of what happened. Wish fullfilling dreams should also not be controlled, we must let our desires run their course. Fun dreams yet, I have controlled what I would dream about, with whom, the outcome, but usually let the middle take its own course.
At times I can but most of the time I am unable to do anything but watch what happens there.. Kinda gets overwhelming .
After I learned how to meditate properly and now a trainner myself I was able to run my dreams like a tv remote. Now I ask how does that mess with the dream interpraters.
What I'm wondering is, is there a way to learn to control your dreams, and if so what would that be? To control ones dreams would be helpful when having nightmares.
but i think nightmares cannot be controlled or noone would get any nightmares at all .
I've controlled afew.. Its a hard thing to do, and takes alot out of a person at first..
it's called lucid dreaming. and yes, i do have it. but the annoying thing is, is that sometimes...when i am really stressed out, i control the dream way too much as a "way" for my subconscious to "work things out".
I can do this. It was not 'learned', just something I have always been able to do. In fact, there were a couple years of my life I slept WAY too much because of being excited about dreaming. Who doesn't want to live in a world where they call the shots? If I want to, I can dream that way... if I don't try, I dream like everyone else, dreams forged out of subconscious thoughts.
It never took a lot out of me to get my dreams under control. It's always just happened naturally. My brain already knows what to do if it's too much for me to handle apparently. ^^
I can control some things that happen in my dreams. It's like I am in another dimension of my life. It scares me sometimes, but when I wake up it sucks, cos I would rather be in my dream I just had!
If I am correct, its not so much as having control over your dreams as being in control from with in them. to have control over your dreams would lead one more to the concept of astral-projection. It is possible to learn how to take control from with in your dream.
i can not control my dreams just some times ever sense i was a child i have dreamed alot and most of them come true, they are more like discernment dreams and some times they scare me,but i have accepted this gift even if i get scared
Unfortunately, I don't have this ability. I sure wish I did though, because I have some pretty insane nightmares that I would like to be able to control.
i have done it a few times, but more often i relize its a dream and wake up. Its pretty strange the way i wake up to almost as if being pulled out of the dream and suddleny my eyes open.
I don't remember my dreams or maybe I don't deam I am not sure. I sleep like the dead. I don't get woken up and I maybe controling that because when you wake up in the middle of dreaming is when you remember them. I used to have bad dreams and I didn't like remembering them.
_I've never really been able to control my dreams, however, I've never been completely out of the loop when I'm dreaming either. If I'm dreaming about something that disturbs me, all I really have to do is think about something else and, if I start to get a vivid enough imagination of this other thing, than I will start to dream about it. That's about all I can do, but it's only if I am half asleep, otherwise I'm unable to control what happens. Most of the times, I have quirky dreams that are just insane, so I let them go on anyways. A lot of the time, if I find I don't like a dream and I can't do anything about it, I'll wake myself up._
that would be wild!
i would be happy to remember many of my dreams, but control them? just imagine!
Been controlling mine for many yrs. I think what I want B/4 bed & make it happen. My mind My dreams. But sometimes I just let things happen and there so different than my reg. dreams. fun.
its just a matter of knowing you can control it because your mind controls your dreams.
You don't actually conscious control the dreams; it is just your brain trying to find solutions to daily problems... and solving the hidden desires, the unconscious wishes...
Dreams are a way for the brain to "relax through work"... and releasing tension...
I could never control my dreams and I can't see how others can.
I dont think u can control the outcome of your dreams but your subconcious mind can control what u dream about
i believe you can see what happens in your dreams, but you can not control what happens in them
I have a question why would someone want to control there dreams in the first place???
I mean the dream state is the only state where anything can happen and if you control it then it is just like you are awake and that takes all the fun out of it.
wolfkiller u are so right for some people it would be like a fantasy world.
To bad I dont remember mine
I have no idea if I dream, so I would like to first get past that and then learn how to work through them.
