When example donate your heart to anyone or whatever organ anyone choose to donate. I wonder do you belive it will change what happen after death? Do it will affect your soul in any way?
I believe you're asking about whether or not people think organ donations effect the afterlife of the donor?
yes. exaclly that. I kinda feel when someone donate a organ he or she in some way also give away a part of the soul. So maybe it in the end will effect the afterlife.
Some cultures have put power of some kind into organs themselves. I don't know that I agree with the principle myself. It seems that an afterlife would be rather removed from the body and any physical remains (organs, tissue, etc) would be just that: remains. Otherwise, think about all the dead cells we leave behind every day with hair, nails, skin etc.
With that being said, it would seem like donating that bit of remains in an organ wouldn't affect things either except to possibly save someone else from death.
I have to agree with felix. For one, I don't feel that our physical selves have any connection to the core being of who we are, its just a shell. Also, I am personally undecided about an "afterlife" and if our soul lives on or dies. While its a lovely thought an organ is just an organ.
Personally I don't believe that organ donation has a detrimental effect on the Souls afterlife.
If anything I would think that giving someone else the opportunity to live a little longer would be beneficial to all parties.
when we die we are nothing but shell (a husk) our soul is a spirit and nothing it is not attached to anything material
our bodies are nothing but vessels so that we can travel around on this earth plane.... after it decays our souls leave the body..our vessels remain...donating an organ will not effect our soul but perhaps imprints may exist ..celluar memory can effect the person who accepted the donation
I think it would help a persons soul become lighter to know that they are giving another person an extended life.I am 0 positive so i have prepared myself to be a donor I tell all my dear friends "Don't hesitate to ask for kidneys and liver."
the horn membrane really should feel weird to donate concidering that is a big part of images and responsible alot to what you have done in your life. a sort of mirror of your life. The eyes of the soul somehow. I think that is something i never would allow to donate.
well your blood wouldnt be flowing through it anymore so i dont think it would have any affect
I know that I should be a donor, but can not bring my self to give away any of my body parts.
I don't think it would change anything in the "after life" because your body is physica. Your soul is spirtual.
I don't believe donating our organs makes any difference to the afterlife. The body and soul are seperate things.
I am a organ donor.....when my spirit ;eaves/ it will have nothing to do with my organs.
I would think it would depend on the organ, the donor, and the recipient, As I've heard of heart transplant recipients having a different personality traits that they didn't have before...
Don't think it would harm your soul to give, if anything its a plus to give. The one who revc. it might have some craving for food they didn't have b/4 but thats all.
I do not think it would affect the soul in any way. The body is only a temporary home for the soul. It is not part of the soul itself. If there is an afterlife, such as reincarnation, we do not remember our previous bodies so they apparently have no affect on us.
but if we take it 1 step longer. Imagine a person who have recived a heart for example. As someone mention earlyer in this topic so maybe that persons personalyty have changed abit and it that is the case so wouldent also then the soul have changed abit to? So indirect maybe it can do little differents in the end?
I think it's a stretch to imply that transplants pass on parts of a soul though I know it's been done in movies with 'Idle Hands' or some such title.
From the most metaphysical open mindedness I can summon, I could see memories or psychological damage passing on in some cell memory but in truth I'd sooner point to the trauma of a transplant surgery as the most likely cause of personality changes.
It is an interesting idea and would give someone reflection towards improving their lot in the after life. But once an organ becomes a part of their life you have no control over their choices. (for better or worse) So, no, I dont think this would affect you after you pass on.
I personally don't know however I am an organ donor for the reason to be able to help another when I pass. If there is something of myself spiritually that goes than I hope that will pass and help that person too becase I live my life to the best of my ability.
It has no negative effects what so ever. Only positive effects on the people you help!
Most excellent responses FelixFelix, I think you are on top of your game with this thread.
I myself follow your logic/ideas completely, and agree with your reasoning 100%. Well said.
No. The heart and the soul are two completely different things. After death, the soul has already moved on, leaving behind anything to do with the body.
Not sure I believe that your bodily organs have anything to do with your soul. Your body is merely the shell in which your soul lives in temporarily. Therefore donating organs would have no effect on your soul.
very interesting replyes. It going on a campain on theese stuff in my town there they ask us who live in the town if we are willing to donate organs when we die. I yet havent decided my stand in this. But it is interesting to read what you says.
That would be cool to campaign.
I personally think the only organs that affect you in the afterlife are your heart and brain. Besides that, I really dont think so. The Egyptians pulled out the pharohs oragns and placed them in jars. They bviously though somehting of it.
We mostly agree on that donating an organ will not cause any 'harm' to the soul being able to depart on its journey from the body. Most organs are donated while the body is still alive - and the brain is already flatlined; so would the sould already depart or not until the point of death?
What are peoples' opinions on that?
now thats an interesting question... I would expect the soul to leave the body once the whole body is gone not just brain dead because than it would be end of life complete
body is only a shell for whatever variation of the spirit you believe in, i am listed as an organ donor and if they wanna use mines feel free. medical research are welcome to it as well.
I do not think it has any effects on your soul, besides that it can save persons life, so the soul might redeem some bad karma wich it had before, or just earn more good karma.
I'm a registered organ donor. I don't believe it will affect me in the afterlife at all.
I personally believe our soul is in every cell of our body... any exchange of ourselves to someone else will make us connected to the other person. Many people with transplanted organs have experienced dreams and visions of lives they did not have before.
Doru.
That is also what i kinda think. The soul should leave some marks in the organs.
did anyone ever see that movie I think it replays on Lifetime every once in a while ... It's been a long time since I've watched it however a husband and wife die in an accident and 2 strangers (male/female) are waiting for heart transplants they get them and they don't see each again until they are drawn to this little girl for some reason which is the daughter of the heart donor.
To make a long story short the little girl can sense her parents hearts in these 2 people and these 2 end up falling in love with each other because they were meant to be in their first life.
I forgot the name of the movie but you can catch it ... it's a great story.
i also think so... the soul can leave invisible marks in the organs... otherwise, how people who has received organs can feel and sense in a different way? I´ve also heard stories about people who have received organs and suddenly they change not only in personality, but in the way they perceive and sense things...
probably that mark will go with them until they die...
no it wont change anything in your afterlife..
once your dead your separated from your body and anything that happend to your body wont affect your soul
We all seem to concur with our thoughts on this subject which is a pleasant surprise.
Giving of organs that will just rot away to help those to live is a completely unselfish and good for karma and that just pieces of a body not needed by the soul as it starts the next step.
Believe it or not there isnt many donors as we may think there are. What I did notice when I moved to TX is that you register with your drivers license and they ask you to renew your donors registration when you renew it also incase you have changed your mind.
here in sweden every human can get a card there it says yes or no to donations. Also if he or she have restrictions on some parts. However im not sure if it will effect my soul in any way and that make it hard to decide. It is 2 sides of everything i guess. I have no doubt if i get an organ from someone if i need it so do i think i would be thankful. But im not sure i would be myself as i was before in way to be and act. And as some here have mentioned many have becomed different after. So in some ways so do i think the soul take effect of it. And if it take effect in this life so what says it dont will in afterlife?
I am an organ donor, I do not believe it will affect what happens after I die. The soul is not there anyways simply the body.
No, it makes no difference whatsoever. Bio-degreadable matter is just that. What your entity is in while it is here is merely a shell. Dust to dust,.... so a piece lives on for awhile , it will help someone else out if but a little while , enjoy the here and the now.
People used to tell me to remove the organ donation sticker from my drivers license because if that is seen, they would not try to help you live as much as keep you going to harvest your organs..my sticker is still on my drivers license.
As far as I'm concerned helping someone spend a little more time that they would have got can only be for the good. When I go they are welcome to all apart from my brain (which they won't want) and my eyes (which I wouldn't wish on anyone).
When I die I won't need my organ's..But someone else may. Give another person a second chance at life when mine is over.
I believe that when you're dead, you're dead. You might as well let someone else use the organs you aren't, instead of letting them rot into nothingness.
heres a twist for you. do you beleave that the organs that you donate carry your memorys with them. as an EMT i have had people tell me that after transplant they see or fell things that they never did before the transplant. like a girl who never ate fast food in her life after having a heart transplant craved Mc D's fri's
a year later found out the the young man who's heart she had gotten love Mc D's fri's they were the one thing he always had to have
I agree with Raine. While i don't believe anyone "loses" a piece of your soul if you donate organs, I do believe you leave an "imprint" that ~might~ transfer to your recipient. Some people theorize that memories might be stored on the molecular level. If that's true, that would explain it. I watched a show where a 60 year old librarian received the heart of a young motorcycle rider. She woke up in recovery wanting a beer, and she'd never drank beer in her life. =):
I have seen some discussion in the media on exactly when to harvest the organ. How close after medical death is safe to retrieve it. Some say hospitals may take the organ prematurely.
No, I don't believe donating organs will change what happens in the afterlife. Your spirit will still leave your body/organs and travel to wherever they go.
I am an organ donor on my license I don't believe it will affect afterlife This mortal body we live in is our earth suit. It is only a temporary shell for our time now. I believe in reincarnation!
Don't change anything after death. It is only a shame that someone could donate an organ and someone need to pay for it. Who takes that money?!
Our bodys are but mere vessels for our souls.. since our souls move on after physical death.. it shouldn't matter what happens to the physical shell. Yes, i am an organ donor
I too am an organ donater, I do not think that this effects anything. The afterlife is concerned with the spirit, not the flesh. However, I do think it's possible for an "imprint", like a shadow, to be left on the one who receives the organ. I also think it would depend on which organ it was; eyes VS heart or liver.
Jessika, are you suggesting that if we are the receipient of the organ that we may recieve this imprint. How would it affect us.
I am only speculating. I've never had a transplant before. I would think that because the tissue is still "alive" that it would be able to keep some part of who the person was. If it wasnt alive it would not be able to be donated. This theory is used in a recent horror movie, the eye. Though I think if anything else was donated it would carry the same ability to imprint. I also do not think it would be a severe as the movie portrays it, it could be a good thing. Another perspective.
I have heard if certain organs dontaed effecting the one who gets it but as far an just any organ donated having an effect... I dont think so.
I wonder what the recepient would feel. I can see some things. If you got a new heart from an athlete, you certainly would be more fit, perhaps you may feel upto excersicing more. It would be interesting.
A soul is a part of your body that isnt entirely mortal and lives on through eternity so I think it would have no effect whatsoever except maybe the feelings you did have would be passed on.
I don't believe organ donation would affect the soul of the donor. The soul and body are different things.
When decomposition begins, the physical remains of an individual are destroyed. When decomposition has completed, the physical remains are no more. Would the soul cease to exist at that time too?
We all seem to agree on that!
Just for the sake of discussion, there are so many movies about eye (cornea) transplants which the donor's thoughts, feelings, come to bear to the recipient..like the Jessica Alba movie. There was another one a few years ago called Blink with simliar plot.
What are your thoughts and feelings on this?
No, having someone else's organ(s) transplanted in you wouldn't affect your soul at all. Only thing I would worry about is if your body rejects the organ. But as Bizzy stated, in the end when your body is decomposing nothing is left anyways, so it wouldn't matter or affect your soul.
I believe the Soul and the body are two different things, and so if you follow that ethnic then it would be difficult to believe body organs would have any value in the, "Afterlife"
well . . . you are still dead . . . and you aren't using your heart anyways so why not let someone else use it.
I don't believe organ donation affects the afterlife in ANY way.
When you die you have no more use for any parts of your body. So why not give them to a person that may get alot more years from them. I don't think it effects the after life at all.
I beleive in cell memory, but I don't think having an organ transplant affects the person donating or the person who recieved the donation's after life.
No, it does not effect the soul, the body is a shell that the soul inhabits. As cold hearted as it sounds donating an organ is just a superficial as getting a tatoo or a piercing, its just physical. Especially if you are dead its not like you are using your organs anymore, in a sense its just like giving your donations to Good Will or the Salvation Army
I think it is a good idea myself and I'm setup to be a donorer
I don't believe giving your organ's to someone after you die effects the afterlife. You don't take your body with you. So you have no need for it.
the body and its organs are just a shell
if giving organs effected your soul... then what happens to the millions of souls whose bodies are completely decomposed or burned to ash?
the body and its organs are just a shell
if giving organs effected your soul... then what happens to the millions of souls whose bodies are completely decomposed or burned to ash?
i just think in the end if u donate u would made a differnce in a life but not anything else but i believe there be very thankful and that was urs so part of u would be with them in thought nothin more
Glenn -
Just because you're not an organ doner you can still have an opinion, can;t you?
I am undecided on this one with my culture we believe that you go back to creator with what he gave you for your life but on a personal note I don't think that the body has anything to do with the soul it is just a vessel for the soul, but just in case I am keeping all that I have in my body.
I can't see why having someone else's organ would change who you are as a person.
You're still the same person as before, you just get to live longer with a new organ.
I don't think it will affect your spirit. Your body is just where your spirit rests for an amount to of time. That's how I think of it
The body is just a shell that the soul resides in. Asking if donating organs affects the soul is like saying people who live with serious lost of limps are also missing a part of their soul. We all hopefulling know that isn't true. The body is just the earthly trap for the soul.
i believe that your soul has nothing to do with your body. your body is just a flesh vessel for your soul. i don't think being an organ donor will change your soul. your soul is your essence.
besides. by the time they harvest your organs, your soul has already departed. It's kinda like asking if your body's decomposition will affect your soul.
When people donate organs after death, its a means to help another living soul but doesn't mean we that are dead feel anything of spirit or physic energy because all that remains for us and just our outting shell of our body. However if one is cremated then all that remains is your ashes once the organs have been donated and that to me still doesn't make anyone feel anything of spirit within the organs that was placed in their bodys from that of a dead person
ok you're either asking about whether or not people think organ donations effect the afterlife of the donor... or your asking will the ones reciveing the donations be effected by it such as feeling what he donar felt in life or seeing things they saw so on and so forth will it have a supernatural affect will they relive thier last few seconds on earth who knows I don't believe any of that will happend but it is an interesting concept.
I think physical matter dont have connection to our soul ( core ) and only resolve and ego have connection to it.
We must donate Organs. I will file my eyes and other inner part after my death be used to save others.
If some thing should ever happen to me i will donate a piece of me if it helps anothers life
my opinion has a question too. if you are a vampire, and you donated your heart.....would being staked still turn you to dust? or would you have to stake the person who got the heart? or does the heart not matter? It's confusing me.
As an organ donor I don't believe it effects the soul. If anything it improves your karmic placement. By giving a piece of yourself to another you prove your worth and selflessness and compassion to others. There is no greater gift than life and to be able to continue someone else life at the time of your own death. You can't give a better gift.
I don't believe it effects the afterlife or the soul of the donor seeing as after death the body is left behind anyway rendering the organs useless to the deceased also making the organs a "possession" because you don't take it with you when you pass over
I believe that we are simply so much meat after we die. If there is such a thing as a soul I do not believe it is tethered to our corporal bodies.
It makes no difference. I am also an organ donor because I have no use for them once I am dead, but if others can use them, fine by me.
Some cultures think that you cannot go into the afterlife if you are not intact but again, who knows. If you see from a scientific point of view, our body is a piece of meat, we use it for as long as we can, and when it expires, though luck.
I to have donated my organs because I feel if Im dead I have no need for them and they may as well go to some one who needs them
Our organs are just part of a motor to keep our souls vessel moving.
I don't think it will effect your afterlife, although a part of you will live on in another person after you are dead, to some degree. You give someone a chance at life that you are denied. It might make you feel better about dying, but I don't think it effects the weight of your soul, so to speak.
I believe that the soul (the core being of who we are) is separate from the body. The body is there as something the soul lives in whilst we are alive. Once we are dead the soul moves on and the body is no longer needed.
Therefore I don't think that organ donation will affect the soul or what happens in the afterlife and personally feel that donation should be done to give others a chance to live.
However, some religions forbid donation as they believe that tampering with the body after death will affect that person in the afterlife and that their soul is incomplete and cannot rest in the afterlife.
Well said, QueenMorbid and I was going to mention just about exactly what you said!
The very unselfish act of donating what orgrans you can in order for another to have a second chance at life is just about the best thing a person can do. Perhaps in certain people, a tiny piece of 'them' can survive in that organ... and not like Hollywood would portray, especially with donated eyes.
well i think donating would affects after life because of the fact that after death only soul is left and not the body or any organ.
I would gladly donate any organs of mine that are still healthy when the time comes. I think it would have no bad effect on afterlife,etc....perhaps even might help because I would be doing one more karmic debt payment before I go.
I do not think that will effect your afterlife. Many criminals are organ doners and I don't think giving their heart or liver to anyone would help their conviction.
Perhaps but I'm thinking no. I'm giving up my organs when I pass away but this question never crossed my mind.
i think that not only the afterlife of the donor... of course that all those good deeds have a wonderful reward... but the afterlife of the receiver... and his/her present life too, because some people who receive a heart, can get traits of the donor... i´ve seen this... and the receiver starts acting in a different way, or seeing things... or perceiving things... as if the heart could bring a "memory" of the donor... i dont know how to explain it better...
good thread !!!
No the body is simply a shell the spirit resides in, when the shell is no longer needed its released and what happens after that I wouldn't think would have any affect on the spirit that once dwelled within.
I'd think organ donation would not affect after life. It's probably the most beautiful present you can give to anyone. The present of new life and hope. I can only hope that my organs will be good enough to donate when I pass away.
I am an organ donor, when I die and leave this human body(my earth Suit) behind. I hope I can help save a life with my organs, which I will no longer be using. My soul is who I am, in this life I have this body it does not define me. The laws of physics state" No energy can be neither created nor destroyed. " I am energy, you are energy, if we cannot be destroyed, must mean we or our spirit must live on, Therefore our organs aren't a part of our energy once we have left behind our earth suit. This is my feeling about organ donation. I am a healthcare worker and deal with death weekly. I hope this question makes people ponder, if they might consider becoming an organ donor on their license.
I think that it is a good idea to have soimeonie donate there organs. Like many have said.....It can save some lives.
I can't see organ donation having anything to do withyour afterlife.
Once you are dead, you are dead. Your spirit has moved on and is no longer concerned with what it has left behind...and nothing that it has left behind can affect anything pertaining to the hereafter.
Once the organ is in someone else, it's theirs...with that being said, it would be kinda' creepy to have someone else's eyes and see snippets of their life through them...( Like in that film "The Eyes of Laura Mars").
Donating yourself is the most selfless act someone can perform. To think that relegating our remains to mulch only allows us peace in the "afterlife" instead of recycling life -- isn't there a theory that states energy does not disappear but change forms?
Both my grandparents donated their bodies once they died. It doesn't make their dying any easier to grieve because I have a plot of grass with a plaque and a name of someone I love.
You know ive always belived that if you get burried missing one of your organ's you wont fully cross over...
I dont know why. Its like... you know when you know something but you have to proof to prove it? Like that..
Though i feel that it only applys for organs and not limbs.
Great thread :)
FacelessUnknown
I kinda think that way to. I guess thats why i yet havent decided my stand in this matter yet.
I can't see how the condition of the physical body would affect the outcome of my spirit, so I am an organ donor. If it did have some affect.. does that mean every human ever injured, amputees for example, are hindered in the afterlife because their body wasn't whole?
FacelessUnknown: but wouldn't that mean that all those who had had their appendicitis removed would not cross over? That's a scary thought :/
I believe that donating an organ to someone who needs it for survival would surely be an honourable thing to do & would therefor benefit the soul rather than acting selfishly & worrying about your own afterlife & putting another person at risk.
i think everything would be the same as if you kept your organs
It is a matter of belive, but what if we look at it the other way around.
Would you recieve an organ to save your life, and do you think it would effect the afterlife if you have a different persons something in your body?
I think it does help you in the afterlife. If you donate what ever science and doctors can use to help another person see hear or live longer. It makes you a good person that you helped out people even in your death.
I agree Fizbop. Apart from saving a life, you'd obviously also get brownie points for the afterlife.
My mascara is running! Ahem, well... isn't it dreadful that people are murdered for their organs and that such a blackmarket exists for organs and body parts?
It is. They harvest organs from children too, it's dreadful.
I don't believe it helps you in the afterlife. I believe it comforts those still in this life to know their loved one has lived on in others.
i don't think that if you donate a body part after you're dead it'll affect your soul. i think that the soul is independent from the body and that once the body is dead the soul lives on independently from it and eventually gets reincarnated into another body. if the corpse has a few missing organs i don't think it'll matter at all to the soul.
Well i beleive in some aspects the mind is connected to the physical aspects of your body, therefore the spirt must be to.
In my last post i stated that i didnt beleive it applyed for limbs, only for organs. But i suppose, looking back on it, maybe it does apply for limbs.
God, i wish i did hold the answer's. Talk of the afterlife can get very complicated.
Go with whats in your hearts Kids. :)
Supposing there was an afterlife how we ever assume that organ donation could help us there?
I'm not saying this to be mean or rude, but you should proof read your writing more before posting.
As far as organ donating I'm for it.
So what about plastic surgery? Would this affect a person in the afterlife?
No, I don't think it would change anything. Not for us anyhow. But, I am sure it would change the life of the person receiving the organ.
no the organs dont affect the afterlife. your soul isn't tied up to your body so that when you die your soul doesn't die along with it. if you take some organs from the body it won't do anything to your soul
Like almost everyone eles, I believe this body is just a shell, and our spirit/souls move on... To donation an organ is to help another, a final gift of this lift time.
well, your organs and earthly body have nothing to do with your soul so i don't see why it would matter if you donate organs after death
No I don't believe it does. I dont think it'd make any difference what so ever.
many cultures believe that you need all your parts to be together in your tomb because you need their spiritual existence in the afterlife. however - they often consider synthetic replacements to be adequate. for instance, if someone had lost a limb in life, they would sometimes have an artificial (usually gold) limb placed in the coffin ' /sarcophagus to replace it.
there are many tales of ghosts haunting a place,or a curse being on a place because a skull was removed from a grave or from the corpse,so the spirit is trapped on earth until it is reunited with the rest of the body.
i am uncertain - but its a redundant point in my case -my heart wouldnt be of any use anyway - except as a paperweight.
im not sure. does the spirit dwell only in the brain, or throughout the body? if te whole body, then all parts contain some spirit, so if your heart lives in someoneels, so to will part of you spirit.
I do not think donating my organs will have any effect on my after life ( or even if I have an after life lol) it is simply an organ, a biological device that if can then will help another human being since I no longer need it or have use for it.
it will not change our afterlife, just the person receiving whatever organ from you. i think it is a great thing to do.
Why would it? It's still your body. It's still your soul. It's still your death. It's still your afterlife.
I believe when we die, the soul leaves the body altogether and would have no reason to attach itself to any or all organs after death. Otherwise it wouldn't have really left the body, would it? In which case would suggest the person were comatose, and you wouldn't remove a heart from a comatose patient, would you?
I don't believe donating organs would interfere with the souls departing or the afterlife.
I believe that once we are dead, the 'soul' vacates the body, since it is but a vessel for life. All of the organs and tissue will have no connection to the 'soul' and will not affect the afterlife of the 'soul'.
I heard that often the recipatant of the organ takes on characteristics of the donor, mainly when the heart is donated. It does make you wonder how much of a link their is between the body and the soul.
